One word about my new installation: After install I opened up alarmed and all entries were marked as broken and I had to-edit them. Was OK, so I got forced to have a look at what's necessary and what is not. But was there a change in the settings in the last versions?

Re: [Announce] "Alarmed" scheduling App (supports automatic GPRS data counter resetting)

Hi All

Totally Maemo (and linux for that matter) newbie here.

Have downloaded and am running alarmed, and am using it to switch from silent to general etc.

Can anybody give any examples of command line that can be run from this program?

I'm particularly interested to know if the program could be used to start and stop GPodder.....can anybody help me with this?

GPodder will automatically search for and download any podcasts that I'm subscribed to, but only when GPodder is running. If I could get alarmed to open GPodder, say once a week, in the middle of the night, then all of my podcasts could be downloaded without interupting anything else that I'm doing and whilst the phone is in the house and accessing WLAN.

Oh, and is it also possible to enable and disable WLAN from the command line?

And finally, can anybody point me in the direction of somewhere that I might learn some of this very basic stuff.

Thanks in advance

Have a look at the thread and wikipage for Desktop Command Execution Widget (dcew). There are many command lines and useful tips.
One general tip: try writing shell scripts which get called instead of putting complex commands directly into the field.

Good Luck!

That's because it's not "Alarmed" that performs the actions, but the maemo built-in daemon called "alarmd". Uninstalling Alarmed wont remove the alarmd events. If you have removed Alarmed and reinstalling it wont show the events like you left them, then you can instead remove the events manually as described in the first post:

If it should happen that you create an event and for some reason it gets lost from Alarmed's menu/list, but still exists and acts, look in /var/cache/alarmd/alarm_queue.ini and you'll find your event somewhere at the bottom. It comes with a "cookie", which identifies it. For example: "cookie: 886". You can then use the CLI interface to delete the event. It will tell you it doesn't exist, but it will nevertheless delete the backend-event:
Code:

/opt/alarmed/alarmed.py -CD 886
Don't mess with the alarm_queue.ini, you might do serious damage!

or if you feel brave and capable you can simply edit alarm_queue.ini by hand and remove the faulty entries.

How much wreckage should one expect for nuking the file? Re-add alarms? Or screeching tires and broken glass?

Ever drove a car at 120 km/h and thought about not breaking at the next turn?

Do if you dare ;)

Oh, I didn't think you were Finnish - it just seemed appropriate what with this being a Nokia device and everything :D

P.s. I needed more exclamation marks.
