Re: Sick of all the closing threads
Ysss highlighteds this in red ...
if everyone just wait's a few month you will see a device that can do almost anything that a pc is capable of and as a phone has the capabilities of anything on the market for a very long time to come. If you look at the developments by community members on this forum you will see things like the following... Overclocking Usb host/OTG Usb port fault These are all hardware issues with relation to the software needed to implement. The work i have been doing is the fix for the usb port, the fix for usb otg (not host) taking the charging method away from the usb port allowing the needed alterations for usb otg (the hardware for this already exsists on the m/b). When that lot is accomplished and made available for everyone along with all of the other mods currently available then the N900 will in fact become something Nokia did not include within the current design and a lot more usefull as a mobile telephone / computer. Please also bare in mind that it appears Nokia are moving on from the N900 and the very reason this community and its members needed to carry on where Nokia failed (that is my opinion). This i am sure will be accomplished within the next month or so and will make a huge difference to this device (N900). I hope i have explained enough as i dont want to hog or derail this thread but you forced this out of me so had no choice but to try and explain. |

To start: who is "we"? Trolls? Moderators? Everyone else? Everyone? And what is the expected outcome of the change? After identifying the target, then potential steps toward improvement can be identified. I'm not being specious or facetious, either. It's just that nebulous appeals for fixes are easy to rally behind in general but go nowhere. |
Re: Sick of all the closing threads
The mods have all done an exceptional job. Complaining is just arguing against the facts.
That said, I would prefer if a mod is going to close a thread, then just say "Closed". Or give the reason for closing the thread and say "Closed". Making last remarks on the discussion and then closing it is annoying. |

I am not sure why this confuses you. WE is the community. There is no mods, no users, no trolls, no fanboys, WE. |

Of course, I violate my own advice and THIS sort of thread happens as a result. ;) EDIT: one caveat-- infraction systems target the individual but can also serve to mitigate backlash if done right. I'm hoping we can get that in place here. |

It was an honest, sincere question to make sure we're on the same page. No rank assumptions. With that down, do you want to facilitate the rest of the improvement process? It is after all your thread. |

That was one point. If you want to, could you perhaps elaborate a bit on the other ones too? |

You raised a point about people that are bad communicators or bad at English might get an unfair treatment with this system and I understand your point but I don't agree on it. Looking at the threads I've stumbled over in my short time here, bad English is pretty common but not something that stops people from helping or trying to ask questions to understand. Knowing that you can vote someone off the forum, bad English isn't the main point up for evaluation. In my experience, behaviour is evaluated and this is all in line with Texrat's view on things (unless I've totally misunderstood something). Trying to move threads to "out of sight" places is to treat the symptom and not the problem. |
