'buntu and the new phone are jumping head 1st into that pudding vat and so I just couldn't help it Dave...

I love new devices and Os...simply the latest. But it's rarely the greatest and neither makes your view less true. I guess you have to been in space to see the greatness with Ubuntu :D

Just admire people for believing and trying their way.

Effervescent Dave....
I agree it is good to see lots of competing devices and platforms...
I'm just feelin' all goldilocks is all...
everything I look at lately seems ...not "just right.." ..
hence I stick with my nxx0's until the neo is shipping...
Just gettin' antsy is all ...
I haven't bought a new device (meant to play a meaningful part in my day to day life....that is..) in a loooooonnnngggg time now...
s'pose I'm just gettin' the shakes and crankypants is all.

Love neo. But I have lost it...that project is too geeky for me nowadays. It's just that I got no time to hack, jack, attack solution anymore. I'm going more and more main stream lately. Just want a big screen and a nice cigar and I'm happy ;) I got no time to install Oses or tweak things. Boring but it's the truth :D just go with go with Neo and I will talk to mark so he will come up with a build you can put right on neo according to your definitions ;)

hahaha...
thanks Dave...
crankypants aaaalllll gone now
:D

Hmmm...
I agree with your assessment too.
I get the fact if one wants control over their device and it's longevity ..neo is a great example of the way to go. Which means spending time getting it working just like you want it....

And I do agree with you.
Endless hacking and tweaking won't make me x-stat-ic in the slightest...I do love puttering around and all....but I also want to use my devices practically....I am hoping I can find that happy middle ground with the neo.

Otherwise I may as well jump onto the corp. bandwagon and buy a...no...I can't say it ...let alone contemplate it....it's too horrible an option.
Wow...I can't believe I even thought that an option for a moment.
Hmm...I'll pin it all down to the fact I just woke and need more coffee and dismiss those rogue thoughts as java-withdrawl induced.

Re: Canonical announces Ubuntu for smartphones, we go hands-on

It seems that Canonical have picked up their third hardware partner. The large Chinese TV / Streaming company LeTV. Initially they'll launch 3 phones. 2 of them with very high specs. The 5.5" with a Snapdragon 810, 5.5" 2560x1440, 16MP at $320 seems the pick of the bunch.

If they're choosing Ubuntu for their phones, no doubt this also means that their TV platform will move to Ubuntu too.

Pretty big deal, possibly much bigger than Meizu, due to the potential of the latter.

I find it a bit odd that no date event is launched for the device. It would be nice to have it before Mwc.

Announcement this week seems unlikely.

I must say that nothing about the Ubuntu Phones seems a dead cert. Don't believe that I am naysayer - it just that stuff pops up then - poof! Nothing...

Is Bq really going to launch in February?

PS: So, so happy to be wrong. They did launch - crappy tho it was in some respects.

Noone knows...until it's officially announced...same with tizen and sailfish. You have to wait forever. But it's always awesome when they finally about to launch. Also very interesting to see different people expectations. Always pretty...unreal :D

I think we should see something before Mwc. It would make sense.

So let us see. No uPhone of some sort in 1st quarter 2015 would pretty much be a death warrant IMO.

Hardly. More test builds for various phones pop up almost daily on the UP repositories .. quite a few of which aren't bQ or Meizu (or community projects for Android phones). This suggests significant interest from OEMs.

They've done the right thing in delaying, rather than launching a half baked mess like Jolla did. There are certainly things I don't like about UP at the moment, but speed of development seems to have accelerated massively in the last month or 6 weeks, since they've now resolved most technical blockers.

bQ event is on February the 24th for the launch of their low end Aquaris. It's thought that they'll announce a higher specced version at MWC.
