HI - immi.shk

this was an outstanding post and can be built upon.

In just a few more days we need to begin a poll thread
for
What was best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2017

The format you used for your post is an excellent start

Thanks theonelaw
feel free to use the format, i am sure that would be a great poll.. i also wanted to add
OQO
Viliv S5
Viliv N5
Fujitsu F-07C
Sony VAIO UX
WiBrain B1E and more....

but they are out of production and really hard to find on online shopping sites. just felt it was better to add the products that are Existing which we can buy right now

Your list seems to be missing the GPD Pocket, which I think is the standout winner for the year?

(I have an OQO Model 01+ in the junkpile somewhere, virtually new, probably now duff battery though. I never managed to get Linux running on it though )

What happened, did you get a refund? Why do you think it would be the standout winner if you never got linux on it?

OQO : It's just a leftover from some equipment rigs I used to manufacture. It would make a decent doorstop if it was more wedge shaped. I mentioned it only because immi.shk put OQO in his list.

GPD Pocket:
Was IGG, delivered and now for sale in the usual places
z8750
8G RAM 128G eMMC
7" 1920x1200
1 x USB3, 1 x USB-C
dual band wifi
micro-hdmi

Ubuntu support from the factory, and better ubuntu support in the community.

I don't consider GPD pocket a handheld device, anything with 7"screen isn't that pocketable. Its more of an Ultra-Ultra-Book,and yes GPD provides a Ubuntu rom for GPD Pocket.
Also for your OQO i feel you need an older version of linux with low ram requirement or try this

The OQO 01+ isn't pocketable in my view either, because you cant risk putting any pressure on that soft-faced touchscreen. It is definitely bin-able though, now I think of it. It always looked like a great solution, until you actually tried to use it for anything.

The Model 02 felt a bit more like a practical device, as I recall.

Probably a quote I should frame and hang on the wall or something:

Have they mainlined their quirks to get the HW running properly under Linux yet or are they still using their own kernel?
I haven't followed the development for a while, but I have once made the mistake to buy a device where the manufacturer didn't mainline his changes to the kernel, and I won't do it again.

I believe the community changes are being mainlined, but my understanding in this area is woefully lacking, so I could be incorrect.
