I got the Zagg screen protector only and am very happy!
Didn't see the point in a full body protector as i already have a nice case (otterbox commuter series)

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

Because of the rather large design of the N900 already, I think I'm going to just use a pouch-type case, just to stop dust and scratches.

I just use one of those ones you put your sunglasses in, with a draw string.

Or, can anyone else recommend a pouch case, that I might be able to get hold of in the UK?

Thank you.

I've just picked up a PDAir vertical-pouch case for my N900. The thing I really like about this design is that it has no flaps, no fasteners, no moving parts at all; it's really just a strip of leather folded in half with some sturdy webbing holding the two sides together. I haven't been using it for very long, but so far it does just what I want -- holster and protect the phone at my belt without getting in my way. :)

As to whether you can find it in the UK, though, I have no idea. I ordered mine off Amazon, and ended up having it shipped to me from Hong Kong...

Ha ha! I just ordered mine through Amazon.com yesterday. Free international shipping as well!

Copernicus, how's the quality of the pouch? I ordered mine with the belt clip. I wanted to get the book type leather case but cancelled it last minute as I think the N900 is already thick and bulky enough.

I read the vertical pouch has vinyl inside. Will that be a concern for the N900? because I don't have any screen protector on. Well, I should get mine mid March, I'll update more when I get it.

Ah, this thing is industrial strength. The leather looks like it will last longer than the phone will, and I know the belt clip will. That piece of leather-covered steel is so tough I can barely pry it apart far enough to get it onto my belt. :) The only thing I kind of worry about is the webbing holding the leather together; it seems to be some sort of elastic material, so I suspect it won't last as long as the rest of the case. It's a tight enough fit now, though, that even if the elastic starts to stretch with age, I figure it will still work pretty well as a holster.

Ok, well, yeah, that may be a problem. I do have a screen protector on mine, and I do worry that if I didn't, the screen might just get scratched. The pouch grips the phone tight enough that even if the vinyl interior isn't tough enough to damage the screen, any large enough bit of grit wedged between the two surfaces could cause a problem. (Although I suppose this would be an issue with any container that you slide the phone into and out of...)

Cool. :) I've certainly been more comfortable walking around with the phone since I got mine. Works perfectly so far!

Thanks for the recommendation Copernicus. Does it add much bulk to the phone?

I've found it on Amazon UK, it also ships from Hong Kong, it's £19, quite pricey, but if its good I'll consider it. Like Joseph.skb I'm also interested in hearing more about the lining.

I guess you can still listen through headphones with this case?

Thanks.

Edit: Thanks for the above reply Copernicus.

I doubt about the bulk issue from the pictures we've seen on Amazon, it looks just nice. Also, the price seems ok for the quality Copernicus described, plus, you'll get free shipping.

By the way, about the headphones, (again) I saw the picture on Amazaon and really got me wondering. I seriously think we will insert the phone with the headphone jack downwards. I feel it makes more sense with the pulse indicator facing upwards in case we need to check messages/calls etc.

Copernicus: how do you feel?

Well, it's about as slim as you can get for one of these things; it's really just a strip of leather folded around the phone, with a belt clip attached to one side. Not too bad.

Yes! Since the top of the pouch is left open, just insert the phone with the headphone jack pointing up, and you're good to go. (You can even still work the volume buttons, something I didn't expect: the elastic webbing at the sides is so thin, you can easily press the buttons through it.)

I don't have any previous experience with PDAir products, but as far as I can tell, the build quality does seem to be worth the price...

Copernicus: how do you feel?

Well, I have normally been putting the phone into the case with the indicator facing upwards, as you suggest. (Part of this is because I'm using a lanyard with my phone, and while I can easily stuff the phone + lanyard together into the case, I'm still a little nervous about pushing the elastic too much.) Most of the time, though, the phone is down on my belt, so I don't look at it anyway; I'd have to tell if a call or message came in by sound or vibration, rather than through the led. So it probably doesn't matter which side is facing up...

Very Nice!!!

I just got my PDAir N900 Pouch (with belt clip) delivered today - ordered through Amazon.com!

Very nice quality and workmanship - with soft leather (supposed to be genuine leather outside).

Fits the N900 very well. The fit is perfect if you have the screen facing outwards / USB charger side downwards in the pouch (because the camera shutter protrusion balances with the belt clip assembly). But I prefer to have the screen face inwards which I feel is not a big problem.

I recommend this for anyone who wants to get a pouch for the N900. There is also a version without the belt clip if you just want a good quality pouch/holder.

Here's a pic - taken with A Better Camera

Do you think it'd be possible?

how do you like the n900 with the otterbox case? i have one for my n97 mini but I'm a bit scared I'll end up with an n900 that's a little too bulky. my plan was to pair the otterbox with a zagg screen protector... just still undecided.

It's a fairly tight fit just with the phone itself. The elastic on the sides can accomodate a little extra stretching, but I'd be nervous to push it too much.

Ok, I've just taken a few shots of the phone inside the case (including one with the phone slid out of the case a little bit). Here they are:

It does make it noticeably bulkier...
But it's already a bulky phone, so I don't think it makes it hugely bulkier than it already is.
Plus I'm going to attach a clip to it, like one of the posters earlier in this thread did! :D
Either that or a pouch that already has a clip...

Yeah it may not be a good combo....
I guess the only way to know will be to buy it, I may do so soonish.

My otterbox covered N900 fits quite well into my 5.11 Tactical C5 pouch. It has elastic sides like the one above and you do push a little (not hard) to get it to slide it, but it quickly gets easier. The ohone sits a little out the top but the strap over it holds if firmly in place. Works for me.

Cardboard and Gorilla Glue! I made it because the Otterbox case didn't protect the screen in my pocket. Fits like a glove. The extra cutouts are there for the camera and the power keys.

I wouldn't have a cardboard wallet, because wallets need to be structural, somewhat, but a cardboard case protects like it's nobody's business and was surprisingly easy to make. I'm going all cardboard for electronics from now on.

Who of you N900 owners DON'T have a screen protector on your N900 and how is the condition of your screen?

I've had an Invisisble Shield on mine for the past year which is starting to peel off and I'm considering taking it off and not replacing it.

My screen is in very good condition without a screen protector.
When I put it in my pocket, I always put it in with the screen next to the cloth of the pocket next to my leg (if the pocket does not have its own cell phone pocket).

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

anyone knows where i can get a screen protector that looks exactly like this -> http://nokia-n900.com/store/wp-conte...nprotector.jpg ?? plus, it has to be an anti-glare protector.

i've searched around and a lot of ebay sellers and online stores put that same image. when i enquire further, the image is for "illustration purposes" only and the actual unit differs a little. i bought the one from the link above and it was different from the picture (my bad for being so trusting :)).

my requirements:
1. 2 cutouts ONLY on the screen protector - one for the nokia logo, and one for the front speaker.
2. must be anti-glare

i've seen a few units from china on aliexpress.com but i've only had bad experiences buying stuff from aliexpress and from china (lost items, seller claiming to refund but never did so). so i'll avoid those with a 1 light-year radius, thank you.

I bought 9 protectors from Amazon UK in February for £6. The seller described them as faulty because there were no cutouts, not even for the ear speaker - they only followed the profile of Nokia on the bezel. These suited me as I've seen some with a large part missing so that the front cam and sensor are not covered - and even one where there was a cutout around the bottom left corner (landscape) for the LED!!!
Careful use of a hole punch (as used for leather belts etc.) and I have a single circular hole for the ear speaker - looks much neater.

droll 2011-06-07 09:04

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen Protector Thread

hey, that punch hole thingy is a stroke of genius :) do you have the amazon link?

edit: oh wait, that won't do. yours doesn't look anti-glare.

Hello friends!
I want to ask you about this leather case for Fred Perry: http://www.fredperry.com/accessories...hone-case.html
Case has the following dimensions: 11cm (L) x 6.2cm (H) x 1.9cm (D) approx, and the dimensions of the Nokia N900: 110,9 x 59,8 x 18. Only worry about the width of the case and debilinata .. ie whether there is a lot to knock ... What do you think this will be a leather case for the N900?
thank you

Very pretty! But yeah, it does sound like there might be an extra millimeter of space around the phone, which might allow it to slip out of the case when you don't want it to... You'd probably have to test one out before buying.

I should probably provide an update on my own PDAir case -- been using it for most of a year now, and it is holding up quite nicely. (I do treat the phone and the case with more care than most of my other toys, though. :) ) I'm surprised at how durable the elastic sides have turned out to be; they still hold the phone snugly, just as designed. And, as expected, a screen protector is advised when using this type of case; mine have already saved the screen from a couple of scratches.

Anyway, here's what the case looks like today:

Hey everyone,

I finally was able to purchase a Nokia N900 but now am having a hard time finding the accessories.

I found a Zagg screen shield on Amazon. But unable to find a case I like. I am looking for one that protects both parts but does not open like a treasure chest.

Also what is the largest memory card it can take without any physical modifications (IE. soldering etc) to it?

Since the last post was a while back I wouldn't mind if this has to be moved onto its own thread.

Thanks for all the help.

Hello. I want buy screen protector and don't know what buying for my Nokia devices. I want to buy for Nokia N900 and Nokia N9.

About protectors screens absolutely nothing know and worry before you buy, but choose between the two brands.

It's Skinomi and Vikuti.

Nokia N900 Skinomi:
www.skinomi.com/nokian900.html

Nokia N900 Vikuti:
http://www.protectionfilms24.com/pro...ia&modell=3131

Nokia N9 Skinomi:
www.skinomi.com/nokian9.html

Nokia N9 Vikuti:
http://www.protectionfilms24.com/pro...ia&modell=5688

I have mass question about this. Which purchase option optimaly, full body, mattе type, anti-bacteria protection, ultra clear? And what you thinking about is PDAir Ultra clear screen protector?

For me Important, that of the stylus worked and screen protector not degrade the performance of touchscreen. Protects the screen from everyday scratches and desirable was Anti-Fingerprint. It could be removed without damaging the device screen. Since it is very responsible to me. So I ask to give me a recommendation in my purchase.
Regards.
