Got the cake icon dimensions perfected so everything shows up in the right aspect. Here are examples of the white icons with nuvoclear 2(the launcher will look alot better when transparency is fixed), and the black ones with the "okuda" LCARS theme. Also with the lcars theme, i changed the color of the load applet to match.

I love some KDE 4 apps, like KWrite
Konqeror is not very fast, but faster than in debian chroot. KDE 4 as a desktop is pretty heavy weight for tablet, but some of the apps work well. |

Found this image on a t-shirt on web. Used GIMP on my N800 to color, crop and shape. |

Made the "About Product" control panel actually useful:

Re: Show off your screenshots
im conflicted. either nokia should hire qwerty12, or one should hope no corp ever gets their claws in him so that they can silence and corrupt...

Re: Show off your screenshots
oops! I've just read the "cake icons affaire"... I'm not the owner/builder those icons, just found them on macthemes2.org LINK

Oh and btw, this is my mashed up wallpaper. The background is downloaded from Maemo (I think) and I added the very first Nokia logo to it!!!

Slow fading and shadow effects FTW :D

Re: Show off your screenshots
Holly €#*!¥, WOW!!, you are incredible, could you provide more information into how you did this and possibly provide a deb??????, this is practicly the next best thing since the movable window hack, i really, really would love to try this!! :D

The source code and some misc things like hsetroot, wmctrl are here: http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/composite/sourceandmisc/ dpkg -i them and run the xcompmgr icon from menu and watch the slow effects :P That said, it doesn't render the tablet unusable and if you set the CPU to performance mode; it does work a lot better. The xcompmgr icon works like a toggle, if you run it again while xcompmgr is already running, xcompmgr will be killed. Toggle script, desktop file and ideas were taken from the Movial guys. I just took the latest versions of these programs and recompiled them for diablo with optimisations. Uploaded transset too. Uploaded the better transset-df too. Use whichever one (transset or transset-df) you wish. |

Re: Show off your screenshots
it seems so much larger on my system...
but then its set for autosize... ah, now i see, reduce the fontsize and its much better :) |
Re: Show off your screenshots
Here's the 2nd part of messing around with composition - transparent windows.
http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/screenies/comp3.png This is done via the transset program (which needs xcompmgr running) which I've uploaded to the same place. EDIT: Uploaded the better transset-df too. Use whichever one (transset or transset-df) you wish. Transparent liqbase: http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/20081129_0420(1).JPG Camera as background!: http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/20081129_0506.JPG |

Re: Show off your screenshots
You ROCK qwerty12!!!

Re: Show off your screenshots
So, Faheem, I just have to ask; would it be possible to set your desktop background to black then use a simple linux wallpaper display app (like the ones used by many lightweight windows managers), running in the background, using your "camera as background" technique, to (reasonably) display a changing wallpaper? Or is the performance hit too high?

Sorry for interupting, but i had to display this;
I am going to experiment with this by making a init script and possibly a keymap so at start-up, i won't need to manualy activate compositing and have transparent windows if i press a key combination. :D |
Re: Show off your screenshots

If you only need transparency, running "xcompmgr" from the terminal (as opposed to running it from the menu) works a lot faster as it doesn't do as much of the fading effects etc but it can still provide transparency. Of course, having CPU set on performance helps :p. |
Re: Show off your screenshots
I have put transparecy icon in menu, now i just click it when running any app, and it will go transparet, ene the statusbar can be transparent :)

Didn't know that the statusbar could go transparent though :D |
Re: Show off your screenshots
So, can you make your Hildon desktop transparent so that you can see a standard X wallpaper that is behind Hildon Desktop?
Answer: Kinda-Sorta. The problem is that all the Hildon home applets are the same window as the Hildon background, so everything becomes transparent. Here is my OS2008 desktop, with a plain black background, then set transparent. The "Debian Tree" image is from a previous run of LXDE. LXDE paints its background directly onto the X server (like most "normal" desktop environments), and the xomap-xserver just leaves the last image as the background... Anyway, this is a proof of concept that yes, if you were to use a wallpaper-changing utility, you could have changing wallpapers on your OS2008 desktop... The cost is that everything on your desktop looks ghostly and transparent. The best solution would be to hack the hildon desktop to have a completely transparent background (while keeping the applets properly opaque). This transset technique is a bit of a kludge. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/...0bd8869d_o.png |
Re: Show off your screenshots
So, how does one grab a screenshot? I can't seen to figure this out.

Re: Show off your screenshots
My favorite screenshot app is the Maemo Hackers screenshot tool. It can take screenshots of everything (except the overlay apps like liqbase and mplayer), and then easily upload to Flickr:
http://inz.fi/blog/2007/10/25/mh-shot-tool-update/ It is in the maemo-hackers repository, and they're lagging behind... |
