ermmm... No. Because what you installed is not "PR1.2". Nor is it "PR1.2 RC". Nor is it even up to date. Why the heck would Nokia want users testing an old, broken image?

Nokia will probably wait untill they can get all the results they need from the "released" firmware for them to correct the bugs in the official released version so we are not stupid Nokia we know only too well your games now BUT tell everyone just WHY you could not even release some of the bug fixes very badly needed and still have not done so OFFICIALLY.
Nokia are either a complete and utter farce OR they are playing this VERY clever indeed, in the end the truth will come out for sure.

Yeah, it's a good way to do beta testing without all the bad PR (hmmm... no pun intended) if the beta version brick'd a whole bunch of n900's.

Nokia: "Sorry it killed your phone, you shouldn't have installed a leaked copy"

OLD BROKEN ? well all i can say by looking at the feedback from people that have flashed is never ending on the good side as it has in fact FIXED many many probems on the N900.
By the way your talking you would think this update we are talking about here is not even connected to the N900 and in fact been chucked together.

PR1.2 and chuck are closely related. he has now become a verb, like google... only better.

If something will go wrong Nokia can blame users for installing OLD illegal leaked version :)

PS. Please don't get angry about this speculation and hold PR1.2 for extra month :D

Nokia are either a complete and utter farce OR they are playing this VERY clever indeed, in the end the truth will come out for sure.

Or, maybe this image that people seem to think is PR1.2, is really an illegally distributed test image intended for Nokia internal use only. but hey, what do I know?

plus ive had a few random virtual kb "pop ups"......

Just coming back to real life from a half day trip to countryside.. The first field test of PR1.2
Oh did I feel insecure having not even brought a laptop and a backup 2G capable phone to downgrade in case of emergency..
But contrary to all expectations.
PR1.2 software is doing its thing perfectly doesn't crash at all - my bank account is still untouched.
My critical webpages get rendered without problems, Skype, scrolling speed is top notch, fnigers gotten used to the increased sensitivity of the touch screen in MicroB finally

With some mild sun shining down and the lungs filled with fresh air it became clear to me that if I would have bought this phone with the current software I would have been even more happy from the start as its feature set is more complete now (skype vid). ( originally purchased the phone in Jan 10 - and it took me a week to find out how amazing it was)
The only real problem with the N900 being its depleted battery along the road. Maps not being able to save POI is beyond understanding - there must be a higher reason for that.

Anyway, excellent phone. :D

So I wonder what the differences are?

DO some devs have a pr 1.2 RC to test? I guess the big companies like offcr, shazam and stuff. And they sign an NDA or something

I hope the sentence "The Nokia N900 mobile computer will support applications created with this beta in the forthcoming version 10.2010.09-3 firmware update." is just old enough.

Because LPR1.2 is newer by 3 weeks!

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

I guess it just proves the update has been available in some circles but not publicly.
So the leak could have sprung from one of these non-nokia circles

he he he! (digging the carnage laugh)

ok seriously now!

I just want to say i have also fallen to the "leaked leak" this morning just before setting out for work.....

Didnt take me all of 15mins to find & set up...no forseeable problems here, just have a question as we all know the daunting task of installing all apps again comes next..

do the extra repos still work on this build?
Its been a while i've been in the repos, but i didnt think the "maemo.org cataloge" (installed by default ) would have such apps like drnoksnes e.t.c

I think i read somewhere they wouldnt work...not sure...need help, whos added what repos to pr1.2L

Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

does anyone know the code for pr1.2rc for the below.

ive tried generic, 002 and so on. searched high an low and now i'm stuck.

If your Settings - About Product is showing <unknown> after kernel mod: (It's not important but for those who care)
1. Launch xterminal
2. sudo gainroot (assuming you have rootsh installed)
3. apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-generic-pr (this name can be different. instead of generic, it may be 002 or 003 etc)
4. reboot

Anyone noticed that now there is a separate volume setting for headphones and speakers. Not sure if this is PR1.2 but when connected to my car I have the volume on full. I uplug and it drops to near zero (my speaker default). Very handy as msuic no longer blasts out if I disconnect my headphones accidentaly when at my work desk :D

It was always like this, atleast on PR1.1.1.
And btw, there is a better solution for that, called headphoned or something like that, it stops the media player when it recognizes the headphones have been disconnected. (Kinda IPhone default behavior)

Headphone daemon is what you are referring to.

Did you create a backup before flashing? If you did, all you have to do is select Backup and hit Restore. All of your settings and app should come back. I did that and EVERYTHING was like before except for the loss of Quake3 and Brain Party.

Also, I did the CLEAR DEVICE in the PR1.2L..........brave, I know......and all it did was delete my user files. It KEPT all my applications AND my Full Rootfs problem.

I hoped it would clear Rootfs...oh well. I went ahead and reflashed and in a few minutes I have a brand new PR1.2 and 26GB free memory. Nice.

So everyone, don't expect Clear Device to set your N900 back to factory defaults, there isn't even an option to delete your applications......

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

I have also noticed that the Lock screen shows notifications now. If you have new messages, they may show below the slide to lock area.

In the media player, when listening to songs and you go back to the album list, you can get back to your song by pressing the new play button in the bottom right corner. If your song is currently playing, there will be a revolving swirl around the play button. I used to have to restart the song if I exited because I didn't see a way to get back to the active song.

I will post more info as I come across things. Feel free to ask questions.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

@ Deaconclgi

Funny enough, i did create a backup on my p.c, however i'm not using it (not that sentimental to any data i dont have on my NAS, my laptop could tell you... i frequently format, dual boot & triple boot on the same drive )

& i dont just flash the firmware on my n900 when i do flash it (clocking 5 times now), I also flash the emmc as well so any phone saved backup is jolly well gone cuz you get an out of box (factory default phone)

only info i really need is my contacts & calender info anyway..which can be synced from my other phone or outlook...I enjoy the thrill of going through the motions of going for alternate apps to the ones i have had before (except some staples e.g categorise, )

p.s
you could get back to your "now playing" song on pr1.1 by pressing the little equalizer thingy in the same location as well.(i liked the equalizer thingy)
but at least media player now works as it used to before pr1.1 yipee..movie streaming is the shizzle!

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

So would anyone here go back to 1.1?
Certainly not me. My N900 has been up for 4days and 12 hrs and that is with considerable trashing. Battery life is also much improved. I now have loads of widgets active and can run a busy day without carrying a charger.

There are a host of small things rather than major changes that have, for me at least, turned my N900 from good to great. I have found the odd bug (opening some emails with attachments for one) but none that detracts from a positive experience.

I don't know, but I had good luck with this change in step 3. above:

3. apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-*

That seems to take care of all the variants I've run into.

It is not needed. LPR1.2 re-flash kernel, root FS, and CMT I think.

There is no need to flash back to the original kernel. That is only if u are updating the firmware, not when you are flashing or re-flashing the firmware.
