Fantastic news! the palm webos EZ chroot image has just released! it means we won't face the incompatibility issues anymore, well, we can download it, resize it and use it with EZ chroot or we can extract it, and install it on our memory card (power kernel needed).

let's begin
first you need to activate Extras Devel in your catalog in hildon app manager(or add it) you should be able to get the catalog activation link at repository.maemo.org
second you need to update the catalog list(warning:lots of updates or new applications may appear, remember that they are unstable and you should not use them unless you have accepted the risk)
go to X-Terminal
type:
root
apt-get install preenv filebox
wait for installation
exit X-terminal
In PC:
copy (or cut) the game folder after extracting it( first extract the .ipk file with 7zip in pc then extract the data.tar) go to the [extracted area]usr/palm/applications/
copy the [game folder] inside it to your mobile
open filebox
copy(or cut) the [game folder] into home/user (one folder up from mydocs(your mobile storage folder)
close filebox
open X-terminal
cd [game folder]
sudo gainroot
preenv
desktopgen appinfo.json
you should get a can't execute [folder/file] or [file] message
type chmod +rwx [appfolder/folder/file] or [appfolder/file]
type deskt... again
go to your desktop
open options/add shortcut
you should be able to see the game's shortcut now
add it,have fun.

Re: Preenv webOS games compatibility list

well, first you should find hildon/yourshortcut with find command(if you don't know about it you can search for find command in unix)
then sudo it(if you don't know about sudo command then search for ...[you know it])

multitouch problem still happens tough, we need to trick it in some way.
also you need to get some 3rd party applications like palm quick application install and opengl runtime, it's a little tricky if you are not familiar with the webos.

Re: Preenv webOS games compatibility list

EDIT: After creating driver.ini and inserting the text using Vi editor in x terminal, no more shadows.

Perhaps using vi to create the file should be noted in the FAQ.

This is in re: Driver. I installed everything properly, got the game running but got the black shadows.

I did apt-get install libgles1 libgles2, installed those packages. Still got the black shadows.

I created driver.ini in Leafpad and inserted

[default]
ForceExternalZBuffer=0

I placed this file in /etc/powervr.d as the instructions state.

After reboots, reinstalling the libgles libraries, I still get the black shadows.

Any ideas?

Here is ur fix i encountered the same problem too:
driver.ini should contain
Code:

[default]
ForceExternalZBuffer=0
{empty line in here}

be sure to place one and only one empty line under ForceExternalZBuffer=0

SDL - Simple DirectMedia Layer

Re: Preenv webOS games compatibility list

I searched this thread and didn't find this addressed, but forgive me if it has been:

I installed and got HAWX running fine, BUT, the font does not show. I just see character boxes instead of text.

I noticed that the hawx folder in com.gameloft.app.hawx has "gll_font.pak" and some related files. In Filebox, it shows a "package" icon for these files as if they're compressed.

I tried addressing this, but can't find a fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About those videos, I see that the "SDL Device Emulator" is filed with 0x080810 color, but only when in dashboard mode - you can actually see a portion of the video that way. But when it goes back to fullscreen, the color is 0x000000. Like it's not the same window. Any progress on this?

The accelerometer does not work so Joystick control has to be used and the Vehical Select screen is somewhat blocky. Apart from that the game plays fine :)

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, the Wiki does not have it listed.

is it possible to correct this bug implementing accelerometer too?

Quite a few of these have been tested already, and quite a few of them aren't SDL based so there's no chance of them running with the current version of Preenv. Have you seen this?

I have some of these games on my iPhone [waste of time device] so if you are wondering which are good or suck just ask and I'll see what I can do.

For instance NOVA multiplayer online was better for me without multitouch using multitouch made me die a lot more, but that's just me.

Yes,I did. But in fact,this preenv has some problems:
color bit has been reduced to 8(I don't know why);
it ignores double buffering.
PDL is not complete;
It has a fake touch function but it doesn't have fake multitouch function;
and at last, I am not sure if javispedro is going to develop this application anymore. :(

btw, in ShrekKarting's .ini you will have to place 2 empty lines under ForceExternalZBuffer=0 (just discovered that lately :D)

Do it at ur own risk:
Code:

Code:

chmod 755 /home/user/com* (the name of the game folder)
Code:

chown -r user:users /home/user/com* (the name of the game folder)

Just a follow-up to solving the problem of having all the game sound files being indexed by tracker and listed in media player when adding webos games to use with preenv. This method doesn't require messing with tracker:

I've found that if hide your webos game folder in MyDocs, it stops this problem completely so instead of using

/home/user/MyDocs/webos/

use a hidden folder (a dot in front of the name)

/home/user/MyDocs/.webos/

I use the visible folder webos folder for dropping in games I want to try and once I am happy it works ok, I move the game into the hidden folder and re-symlink the game files/folder in the home/user/webos.

Preenv 0.1.2 has been initialized; first I should say sorry to the developer, second , I should bring you its new features:
* Now integrates with liblocation for Location stuff.
* Creates a separate thread to run GLib mainloop.
* Generates a "unique" ID.
* More calls implemented.
* Includes -dbg package
* SDL_Haptic stubs.
well, the first two lines fix the problem with GLib(segmentation fault and SDLGL,I hope so.) , line 3 fixes the ID error line 4 fixes the "not implemented" bug , line 5 fixes the "-dbg is mandatory" problem(Happened in some games but I don't know why it is not listed in the game compatibility list), line 6 fixes the SDL_Haptic open and SDL_Haptic close problems.
Problems not yet worked on:
External Forced Buffering that causes blank screen problem;
changing the 800*480 to 480*800 in portrait games to fix the bad scaling problem;
PDL library improvement;
better integration with opengles;
changing the emulator media player from the weak gstreamer to something more powerful like MAFW(Nokia's stock media player) with extra decoders.

Buy the newborn N8 because it has most of these games and it's multitouch,light weighed, and has lots of more features.

You are not explaining yourself very well... (and MAFW uses GStreamer btw).

You Have my thanks for the latest version release; but first I should tell you that your program(preenv-dbg) has broken dependencies, check them again; and what do you mean:"Explaning yourself", If you mean about the programming, I should tell you that I am a C++ programmer and not a noob; you have added comment that gstreamer and MAFW are the same? but they are a little different as the MAFW also includes the Extra Decoders and subtitle support with it, If using the MAFW is not possible ,then use MPlayer instead.

It's a debug package; you should not install it unless I ask you or you want to use gdb (to create more meaningful stack traces). The missing dependencies are in the Nokia repos (like gdb).

They're GStreamer codecs, MAFW uses GStreamer. What codec are we talking about (and what game?).
