unfortunatelly I was right: such mp3s shown badly - 8bit encoding, Latin1, I guess.
But the problem may be not in OMP, as not just OMP affected: stock MP and mediaplayerwidget also. So I think this may be for example, trackerd crowler problem. What do you think?

i have request: could "cue sheet" files (if available in the watch folders) be loaded and display that info in now playing window (artist, album, etc...)
there is a "cuesheet widget" doing just that, but can you somehow implement that future into omp???

it is good when listening to downloaded podcast, or live mixes...

maybe to put option to choose between lyrics and cuesheets to view????

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I've been testing OMP for a few hours over the last couple of days. It is looking very solid now! Obviously a lot of work has gone into it.

Thanks!

One trivial feature request:

It would be very convenient to have a "delete" item in the context menu of the "now playing" song list to delete a song from the file system. This functionality exists in the context menus of other OMP windows. When random play of all music brings up a song I don't really want on my phone anymore, I don't see an easy way to delete it. Going back to the songs list where the context menu does include "delete", doesn't select or display the playing song so I end up having to search for the playing song there in order to delete it.

I took a look at the code and it looks like it would be trivial to add this to nowplayingwindow.cpp after "Delete from now playing". I'd do it myself and send a patch, but my scratchbox is likely quite out of date at this point. (Let me know if you prefer I do my share and I will try to find time to update my N900 development environment and work up a small patch for this).

Thanks!

I don't know if someone noticed that talking on IM is almost impossible while listening to music from omp. The same thing is for sms, i think it should make silent beep when message is coming, not pause music and play sms/im sound.

i think it should be optional,... but i think it is not possible without restarting a player.. (am i right???) :)

totally agree... the system still needs a iron going over it.... although it does work well.

there is a bug (don't know if it was reported yet) but when i tried to add a streaming radio station, i can't add mms:// stations (see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...=mms+streaming and http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...6&postcount=10)

seems that the "add station" dialog only validates html:// URLs and not mms://

i can add it in the stock media player though, and playing it in OMP works flawlesly.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I don't know how its happening but once I deleted almost all of fm stations and now whenever I add a new bookmark the existing stations are listed repeatedly (If I add one bookmark all station will be listed twice, if I add two bookmarks all stations will be listed thrice and so forth).

And can we get a function to add search results to active playlists or (random)play all search results?

first of all, thank you for listening my advise about shrinking album art in portrait by tapping to show playlist instead of progress bar, BUT now i have maybe a better proposition for that:
how about this for example:
you are in now playing window, and progress bar is shown... you want to see playlist (current), and you tap on album art, and it show you in whole display, a current pls, with no album art, and with only that familiar PLAY button in lower right corner, that you press, and go back to progress bar, and album art.

in that way, you see a lot more of the pls, and you don't even need a control buttons in that view (tap on song is play by default)

I don't want to throw the buttons away and prefer the cover to be visible at all times. In my opinion, a better way to expand the playlist even more is to move covers to the top left, make them smaller, and fill the remaining space on the right with song info/slider/whatever. But first, I need to find some time to play with it.

It's probably caused by adding a video to the bookmarks (only official player does that currently and displays them in the videos window).

I bet it's Windows Media Player's UPnP server, but I don't use Windows and don't know how to turn it off.

I can't reproduce it. Does anything happen if you press play/previous/next? Try running "openmediaplayer" from terminal and see if it spits out any warnings or errors after selecting a video (and also after pressing the buttons).

Quite possible. You can use "tracker-info /path/to/file" to display info from Tracker's database.

I've been postponing repeat-one since forever, because implementation is somewhat hackish and I don't want to break themes (when adding another state to the repeat button).

Is there a relation between two songs being confused, or does it seem completely random?

There are 3 ways to determine which song is being played: listening to the actual audio, looking at the song info panel and looking at the playlist. Where is the contradiction?

Because if you use your n900 as audio player while you'r walking the screen keep rotating and it's quite annoying.

By the way i'm french si i hope it's understandable.

Just a suggestion: maybe omp should have an option of a 'log mode': log is saved anyway, on standard exit this would be deleted if someone wishes to
This would help to diagnose crashes

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Great work on this project guys. Overall it seems to work well.

Using Feb 1 2012 version from extras-devel:

The playlist view seems to not always register a long press (to bring up the context sensitive menu). In particular it seems to happen after removing a different song from the playlist. Sometimes when you try to long-press on a subsequent song, the menu never comes up, and so when you release your press, it acts like it was a short press and starts playing that song.

The "append opened songs" setting doesn't seem to work. I expect it to append the song to the playlist, but replaces the playlist with the selected song. Maybe I misunderstood what this setting does.

Can we have settings to remove the "delete" and "set as ringtone" options from the context-menus. I really don't see those as very useful and most of the time, I don't even want those options there in case I (or someone else) was to accidentally click them.

There is a slight difference in the UPnP browser in that on the stock player, if there are more UPnP servers than can fit in the window, it shows an icon you can click to get a full-screen scrolling list. It is a little easier to use than the horizontal scrolling in OMP.

In videos, if you select "categories" display, it is possible to click on the category titles and it looks like it tries to play them as if they were videos (enters video player and screen goes black).
It would be great to be able to set categories in the videos section. This is missing from stock as well.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Hi guys ! I've just joined this community even though I've had my N900 for 1.5 yrs now !

First off , I would seriously like to thank the creators of OMP for its blazing awesomeness :P

But I have an issue that kinda irritating , dunno if its been solved cos I couldnt find it anywhere !
On the stock MP , the media sharing feature was incredibly handy for watching movies stored on my PC w/o having to transfer it to my N900.
But sadly , that feature doesn't work on OMP :(
Whenever , I click on an entry , it just gives the error 'URL not found' !

Could anyone please help me with this ?

Thanks in advance !

just use orientation lock applet.
when you are on the go, just lock the orientation the way you prefer (either landscape or portrait)

it will remain that way for as long as you please

I think that three biggest feature-wise blockers are: (1) differentiation between audio and video streams when opening a URL; (2) bookmarking video links; (3) support for libplayback (more control over what happens with music when the phone is ringing). Aside from that, there are bugs, bugs and bugs to fix. (2) should be easy. I'm uncertain about (1) and (3), because I haven't tried doing anything about them yet.

I think you got it right (see http://wiki.maemo.org/Open_Media_Pla...neral_settings), but It's only for mime_open, i.e. when using another application (like a file browser) to open a song.

I like it the way it is in the stock player, but there was a request to add more of "delete" and now there is a request for less, so it might really end up in the settings menu. For now, good news is that in OMP there's a confirmation dialog for setting the ringtone (accidents with this option in the stock player were driving me mad) and with today's update it's even easier to dismiss them. ;)

I was always wondering what happens in such case. :) Looks like I'll need to find a way to set up a quite lot of shares.

What software do you use to share movies and does music work? I remember having a problem with streaming, but it was in both Nokia's and OMP, and it disappeared after a restart.

Slide out the keyboard, but only partially (so it remains in portrait) and press a key. ;) Other ways are on my todo.

I've been poking various parts of the source, but I couldn't find a larger chunk of time for more focused development, so the changes are pretty scattered and spontaneous. I still did not have a chance to examine all of the reported bugs, but it's been over a month since the last update, so I guess it's better than nothing:
  • Adding songs from a song list to now playing respects search results.
  • Automatic and seamless refreshing of the radio list (probably also fixes the repeated stations bug).
  • Removed context menu entries for clearing and saving the playlist in "Now playing", because they're already in the titlebar menu and they're more global than contextual.
  • Added an option to permanently delete a song in "Now playing".
  • Added a possibility to close confirmation messages by touching the blurred background.
  • Lifted "http://" prefix restriction from radio bookmarks.
  • Larger song progress font in the car view.
  • Fixed clickable category names in the video browser.
  • Fixed album searching in the artist view.
  • Fixed searching being ignored if invoked before song listing is complete.
  • Searching speed improved a bit.
Any thoughts about "Delete" in "Now playing" or the new searching behavior (when shuffling/adding to now playing/clicking a song, only the search results are taken into account)? Those are the main sources of my mixed feelings about this release.

1. Despite "Media Player" in the name, OMP doesn't do any actual playback, so it's out of the scope of this project. It has to be done on a lower level.
2. It will be there in the next update.
3. I can't confirm it at the moment. Does it happen (almost) all the time? I remember something like this occurring a few times, but only under high load, so I'm not sure if it's related to OMP.
