NOK1V, 1 Month view, Euros:

Looks like Nokia has a better month than Microsoft:

Which, frankly, I find a bit strange all the while Nokia is completely dependent on Windows 8/Phone 8 success.

Christ, when will you people get it? Only geeks and bloggers care about the OS. For everyone else Android is just another name for touch screen UI. Besides, WP is much more dependent on Nokia than the other way. And what has the stock got to do with it?

Quick reply...
Jumping out might hurt Nokia. Because others would think: does this seller have some kind of inside information about Nokia's sharp fall coming tomorrow? They might even panic enough to sell a lot of Nokia's shares...
Best wishes.

Not unless you're jumping out with millions and millions of shares, you're more than likely not going to be causing any issues with pulling out of Nokia with the typical shareholder stock amounts.

The point is that iOS is way too 2009. Android is stale and boring. Symbian is dead. The only place where something is happening is WP. Won't even mention maemo, tizen et al. Jolla? So far just a bunch of vapor.

You remind me of those diehard Palm dudes or Symbian dudes. Their feet planted in past glory. Unable to see that they are as dead as their OS. I mean, Android certainly is the most popular OS, but also very boring. A phone is a phone. There really isn't that much exciting about them, but as of today WP phones are exciting because things are happening at that camp.

You remind me of a palm reader at a carnival who made a bunch of guesses about me and talked about as if she knew me and the future--but ultimately was really, really wrong and really, really didn't know me at all either. :) Long-timers here know me well enough to know.

But don't let that stop you--just like the carnival lady, you're good for a fun laugh. Keep trying, lad. I'm sure Windows Phone will also be popular someday.

Well, not COMPLETELY dependent (Asha for example). Surprise, surprise--Windows Phone wasn't Nokia's saving grace after all.

Well.. and then there's the fact: what's the point of the stock market if it isn't to wait until other people buy into something so you can buy back out of it when it looks inflated and likely to deflate soon? The stock market is all about selfish timing.

Look who was buying Nokia lately..

Goldman Sachs +90%
Morgan Stanley +640%

..

http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/nok/ins...ings/increased

HOLD or BUY, the shorters are f***ed ;)

Also, I totally called yesterday's mini short squeeze. I think the stock might jump another 10% still this week..

ps. If Nokia doesn't increase its guidance before the next earnings call, I'll definitely sell everything, and then buy back after the fall..

I will not say that there are no analysts that read this thread for hints of inside information. But if there are any, I'll say they'd have to be pretty stupid to let us influence their decisions.

We have absolutely no influence except on ourselves. Can't even unamuse the trolls.

The spike in share price was caused by hedge funds rushing to cover their positions after selling the stock short in recent weeks.

Anyone who bought in the $1.60s must be very tempted to reap in the profits while the news is still fairly positive!

Helsinki up 5.5%, NYSE pre-market up 3.9%. Totally possible that we see another +10% today, as I predicted ;)

If it happens, I might sell all, and then buy back a little bit later. I don't think it will hold this high, unless Nokia issues a positive warning on their guidance soon. In this case it would climb even more, of course. Possibly all the way up to the 5 USD range..

Actually Specc I was under the impression that the game here was to be a technical/community forum for Maemo.

"The Home of the Maemo Community ... Maemo Community is an open source community developing software around the Maemo platform."

Maybe its just me but so far I am struggling to find anything you have posted that I would consider even remotely on topic in line with the above statement.

At 2.7 EUR, 3.5 USD. Nice round numbers. God damn, should have bought a little bit more earlier today. That +10% will happen, already over halfway there. Also, market cap finally above 10 billion EUR ;)

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.

As I predicted, the dip came. However, I think now - tomorrow is the time to buy back, and the stock will start to climb again. Plenty of good news today. For one, RIM will have to pay Nokia money as they lost a patent dispute. More significant though, is that the Lumia 920 shortages appear to truly be due to overwhelming demand instead of limited device availability. This was confirmed today by Orange France. Meanwhile, in Italy, WP share is already over 11%. Finally, thanks to the decreased prices, the older Lumias, 800 and 900, are top selling phones around Europe at least. A positive profit warning could come before mid December. Should this be the case, the stock will, no doubt, break 3 EUR..

800s were being sold at less than cost so don't hold your breath for healthy profits.

I don't think so.

In Finland, Lumia 800 starts at 290 USD, and Lumia 900 at 410 USD. It's very similar prices across Europe.

..Helsinki was a bit of a downer today but NYSE is off to a good start at +4%.

Keep buying, it will only go up. However much one may hate MS, they have the money to be a viable player. NOKIA is worth way more than $3.

Good point, I didn't realize that Microsoft all of a sudden had gotten enough money to be a viable player after se7en generations of failing as a mobile OS provider.

I say thank you to gerbick, dan, and the others whom I have had the pleasure to spar with on this forum, thanks to those who have contributed here, and I'll bite my tongue instead of saying what I feel about the triple headed troll in here.

I'll probably come back here some time, but for now, have a pleasant travel and I hope you do find a viable open platform that'll let you do everything some day.

I guess Fins are getting a bum deal because Lumias are selling OK there. In the UK carphone warehouse and the major supermarkets have been knocking out the 800 at around £140 (approx EUR 175 or USD 225).

My experience of manufacturing also makes me believe the $8 manufacturing cost they've estimated in the article is too low. I doubt even if they used slave labour like Apple could they get to that, especially whilst their volumes are so low because that makes their fixed costs per unit high.

For argument's sake though let's assume the article is right, the manufactured cost really is $217. With a sales price of $225 that gives a gross margin of 3.56%

That seems to be the price with a contract, which means that Nokia gets lots more money from it. According to their website, the sim free price of Lumia 800 is £379.95!

People: look at the big picture, don't use microscope. In the end, what benefit the user also benefits the producer. Lumias have been way overpriced. WP is selling 4x today than a year ago.

Selling at a loss or even a razor thin gross margin does not benefit a manufacturer.

Remember the 'ecosystem' means nothing to NOKIA now, Elop gifted all that to Microsoft. NOKIA need to make healthy margins on hardware sales, either that or they need to give up manufacturing altogether and just become a design house.
