I've never held an N950, though. Do you guys think that it'd work for Jolla?

0.001% chance of it happening.

If Jolla OS is going to be very gesture orientated, it would be silly to bring out a phone with a hwkb.

No it was always before or by the end of Summer, then it changed to 2nd-half of 2012, I reckon it'll be no later than Oct*, incidentally N9 started rolling-out at the end of Sept (2011).
But the speculation by someone that maybe another Sailfish vendor releases sooner is certainly possible...
They could finally announce all the finer details about the licensing model just before that (+ what aspects of Sailfish will remain Jolla only, & what will be completely open etc).

We all here wish for that! And I hope first Jolla phone will have the built and materials of the E-series like E61&E7! ;)

I'm personally not that interested in a physical qwerty, quality of build is quite important though, especially if it's pricey, & I expect a competitive/innovative VKB.
Plus an easy way to connect a BT4 KB (for the rare occasion I need it), even better would be a physical/modular keyb system, similar to what the Surface uses -but better.

*If it doesn't come till Jan or later I'll be very disappointed, & their chances of getting traction will have been greatly reduced

I'm talking about announcement date, not when it will be available.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

Yeah I think that was a miscommunication, I had the same impression too until I read a few more interviews...
They will announce with a fair gap before availability, approx. 3mth, but they're no longer necessarily sticking to Q1.

After watching all the videos of Sailfish at MWC, what does everybody think of it?

I'm personally liking everything new they showed since SLUSH, but I don't think that it is quite as pretty as harmattan. Everything just seems functional atm within apps, but the design is not exciting me. It seems like text on a page atm.

What I think of it it?

It's intresseting but very budget-like. Jolla have only showed us a tiny part. They are pushing ambiance like if its a revelutionary thing. Its not, it might be fun for kids for a while :D. the multitasking is the second thing they are showing over and over again. Yes, you can interact with the widgets which is nice. But is their solution faster than fake musltitasking in other os. android can change tracks from look screens as an example. you can only see 9 application in multitasking view which is bad. I whould like to be able to make the widget smaller since i havn't any plans with interact with the widgets.

So what I have seen so far isn't that great. The only thing that is great about jolla is that they are trying and beliveing in what they are doing. I love that!

Why is their own CEO pronouncing the name like "Y-olla"? I always thought it's supposed to be "Dzh-olla".

I'm not sure how :) I've heard before from people working at Jolla it's supposed to be "Dzholla".

Sorry, didn't know that. I just always assumed it was "Y"olla, as it's a company from Finland. Then again, they're Unlike, so maybe it's both.

I remember that in one early Jolla appearance (Devaamo Tampere, Sept. 2012), their CIO after spelling it like "Yolla" corrected himself and said that "Dzholla" was the way they decided to pronounce it, but probably the Finnish word root make even them slip easily back to the "Yolla" form.

I just downloaded both Linux 64bit and Win version with wget (so to preserve the original timestamp)
Linux version is stamped as Feb 25 16:37, Windows is still hot from the press: Apr 4 14:28

I get the impression jolla don't like news. They don't reply want to be seen or heard. They like to work on silence and never be disturbed, which is good in away but not when it comes to marketing and visibility.

I've said all along that need to promote the new stuff to the users and to the world. Make sure as many as possible knows when they release stuff, even small things.

The windows and osx SDK is a great thing becouse it can give them new users and supporters. Jolla, please pump up the volume.

Well, Jolla was in the news today when Tomi Ahonnen discussed the role of Sailfish in the smartphone OS competitive landscape.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/haydnsha...-stranglehold/

I liked what he had to say about Sailfish targeting the high end market. This community deserves a high end device.

I'm not sure how that will play out given the modest manufacturer and carrier support, but I imported my N9, and I'd import a Sailfish phone, too. It's still wait and see at the moment.

At the Slush event they pronounced it strangely:

-All finnish Jolla people pronounced it like english speakers; "dhzolla".

-All non-finnish Jolla people pronounced it perfecly like finnish speakers; "yolla".

Tomi often doesn't have a clue or just completely misappropriates facts, but he's sometimes right on the money too, that's an okay-ish interview, thanks for the link.

For those of you who want to make sure that you follow all the latest Sailfish sites, this page may be good for you:

http://jollatides.com

Also, we don't know which OEM will build the first Sailfish phone, but we (at least I) suspect that it's likely to be a Chinese company.
Part II of the Forbes article that I linked yesterday discusses the rise of Chinese smartphone OEMs. Check out the link below:
