Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Engadget review says chen designed this himself. Also the CNN. I think we should remove these words about Nokia designers or expand a bit more on this plz. Did chen work at ari jaaksis team?
To me it doesn’t matter who designed it but we need the correct information since it’s available in the first post. I think it’s the best review on the first page. He takes about why this is awsome but also things that are less awsome. That is really important. If everything is awsome I don’t trust em. |

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
The insane (seeming) spike in taxes and customs are completely understandable and considered acceptable nowadays in light of the relatively recent findings...
Essentially the calculations used to be based on normal taxes and customs and value added taxes and shipping... hrm...think of it like ...the incredibly useful Carbon Credit and tax system that has been implemented ...but on a much more "Quantum-ly Entangled" scale... ...Considering the bleed over from Multiple Parallel Universes... the loss and / or gain from sales in those "Alternates" now must be made up for...so there is a "balancing - out of the books" ...so to speak.. So saying ...the shipping, taxes, vat ...etc...you may already have paid on the device, are paying, or will pay clear into the future after your purchase has been done... Hence the new Abbrev.s everyone may notice in the fine print of much of what is purchased nowadays.. MPUSF (Multiple Parallel Universe Shipping Fees) MPUT(taxes) and MPUVAT The best we can hope for in light of this new method of increasing fees... Is that someone comes up with an UNTE (Universal Nullification Theory Equation) to counter the MPU fees... The downside is ... proving a UNTE to discredit the widely accepted MPU Theory ... may just wink us all out of existence. But at least for a nanosecond we all would enjoy not having to deal with the damn fees. |

Can't afford the MPU fees |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
My problem is that I don't want another Android phone. I already have one with top specs and I paid for the librem phone. However if I can be convinced that I can boot up something like Debian from the get go I might get it as a pocket computer which I could use. Not interested in chroot (or proot) as I can already do this on current phone. I am also torn cause I would like to support this work...

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Got it!
Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 That phone is fairly new and has similar dimensions to the pro1 including weight. Should be able to walk into any Verizon store to try it out Height is about 3mm shorter, width and thickness are just a hair off the pro1. Weight is heavier than the pro1 at 245g, but it should give you a nice idea of heft Will check k it out when I get a chance I'd like to add a disclaimer that do not compare this device to the pro1. Purely on dimensions alone you can get an idea of how this feels in your hands. There's many things that can change device handling characteristics or make it seem bigger/smaller than it would actually suggest including finish, edges, button placement, and port access. But if you have never had a phone this heavy or big it will give a super rough estimate of what it feels like |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Kyocera has also printing capability, sooooo what else we can expect? Laser-pointing? "copy your diary easy"... huoh...
F(x) is different product... i think... |

Kyocera did a dualscreen phone in 2013 and ultimately failed in making apps landscape compatible on their own :) I know one or two folding- and a qwertyphone company hitting the same problem 6 years later... And since Kyocera has 6 major branches: solar, document, display, components, cutting tools and Kitchenware (which i happen to be a contractor of) they have major parts of their phones built inhouse. The other way around, a manager told me every smartphone on the market contains ceramic components only kyocera supplies. So you can be sure Kyocera parts are contained in the F(x) Pro1 ;) |

And if he safegyards against MPU fees.... Then ... That isn't so bad eh? Thing is though... I already have one nexus 5 with buntu One waiting for leste... And one a nexus 5 with lineage on it... And in my personal opinion ... That is just one device too many with android on it. If chens device ran linux natively ... I would seriously consider the purchase. But I am not about to entertain the notion if any device ...no matter how great it may seem or be...if it runs droid, windows , apple, or sailfish ... Linux please.... and I will consider it... Otherwise ...I don't even second think it. |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
@Chen,
Is there a limit on how many pre-orders you will be taking ? If the limit is not in numbers, maybe it is in time (obviously before launch, but to what extent) ? I know we can just pre-order to show interest and/or commitment, and possibly back out if the project is not satisfactory (at least regarding the possible OSes), but I'd rather wait and see if/how progress is made on SFOS and Leste (and possibly other contenders... ?) than pre-order "blindly" while hoping for the best (yes, I'm on the half-empty team ), which would give you pre-order numbers that may be based on mere curiosity and/or expectation and thus not fully-commited buyers. Of course I'd rather it not be at the expense of missing the (pre-)ordering window... Speaking of pre-orders, whenever that ship will have sailed, will the price stay the same, obviously without the "Limited Edition" (whatever that means besides being part of the pre-order) earphones and case ? On the case subject (I hope you guys love the smooth transitions ;)), nobody answered the totally valid and on-point question from SaiKo... I'm probably with the underdogs by preferring the rigid pouch-style "cases", so I'm not expecting the pre-order case to be of that type, but do you know if there's any other pouch on the market that fits that bill (it doesn't have to be tight), in case (pun intended) you've checked the market for third-party apparatuses that could be used with the Pro1 ? |

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
oh no no no no nonononono!
A pouch with a belt attachment??? I am SO in now... As the fashion gurus say... there are only 3 rules to obey... "accessorize accessorize accessorize..." I just HAVE to have one now... so I look cool strutting down the street... with my fx ... in its pouch... on my belt... Why... Not that coolness matters or anything... But I always wanted to be that guy... who looks so ... so ... "with it"... Like this guy and his pouch ...on a belt... http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/mp/WhR1m7ONiVfx.jpg |

yeesh!
some people don't know style when it hits them fellfrosch.. don't mind cferrism... it is just envy eating at his subconsciousness ... I am sure the vivid imagery of how cool all the fx kids will be .. struttin' down the street, is consuming him obviously he can't stand it. Only thing better than the fx with the pouch for the belt... would be making a slightly oversized fx model for the shoulder... So strutting REALLY looks cool.. http://cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/u...06/boombox.jpg (actual double coolness...never realized the guy there HAS a pouch ...on his belt ...as well!) ((frankly...I am hardly one to speak after posting these... I don't dare post pics from my youth...I did the complete range of style from circa 18th century suits to zoot suits to 40's gangster suits to 50's greaser with the leather jacket and pompadour to 60's hip and beard to 70's big hair and bad rayon to starving Bohemian artist reverting to Canadian Tuxedo (t shirt jeans and jean jacket) along the way to downright mean biker to wall street briefcase trash ...hell I was Dewey Cox....before there was Dewey Cox....)) |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
I’m convinced. Pouch is the way to go. Belt clip and holster is for kids!
|
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Well indeed better to carry a phone that way...

A free pouch isn't just a pouch...it's a mission statement...a very wrong mission statement If he could also confirm whether the free earphones will be the same ones you get on a Thomas Cook airline flight with the removable fuzzy bits then I will have enough info to make an informed purchasing decision |

yup...
it is all about what one is trying to state...with the pouch... completely agree cferrism.... That is why ... If ...(BIG if...) I jump on board this fx train... I want my pouch to REALLY state something... can I get my pouch in this colour? https://i.pinimg.com/originals/15/4d...137e7d0b59.jpg Headphones MUST comply with Canadian standards ... I insist. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zv4MIf0obYY/maxresdefault.jpg (ok I have had way too much fun ...I will stop now so others can have as much fun as I ...take it from here ...and extrapolate further.) |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
In all seriousness I have been wrestling with a dilemma all day. Three were selling the note 9 today for £589 sim free (back up to full price now)
Logic was telling me it was better spec'd in every way (and 60 quid cheaper) that this is a new device and new company that would no doubt experience the same first off the production line issues that all companies face but with no guarantee of ongoing support and after sales care you get with a large experienced company ...but I resisted purely because it wasn't this. It was more of the same and I assume closed down tighter than an EU trade deal (that one was for Dave999) where as this gives me hope and offers potential to give me a phone with both a physical keyboard and the chance to tinker again So preorder remains in tact...pouch or no pouch...but I am starting to feel it could be a long time between now and July with many false temptresses at a lowering price along the way ..and my phone is dying fast |
