Anyone else saw this?

I’m saddened and disappointed to report that Amazon has reported another Nokia N900 shipping delay.

“Nokia N900 Mobile Computer with Maemo 5 Software”
Estimated arrival date: December 03 2009 – December 09 2009

That places the Nokia N900 dangerously close to a Vaporware classification. And moves the Nokia release date to the very end of November, rather than the early or middle of the month as was hoped. This is a bad move, one that put’s it’s release AFTER the Motorola Droid and all the other Android handsets. It makes the Nokia an Also Ran handset Maker, a Me Too! in a marketplace soon to have a large number of failed and marginalized handsets.

The post is accurate, Amazon UK did move their date to the end of the month. They've also removed the device from showing up in search results and you can no longer preorder it.

I dont like the look of this.

Amazon are either mis-informed or Nokia are lying.

Neither of those need to be true. Even if the N900 starts shipping next week we have to work through the joke that is "Nokia store exclusive" and then "Select Markets" before people can actually buy the thing. Depending on where you are and who you ordered it from you could get it next week or you could get it in 2010. Who knows? Certainly Nokia aren't saying.

Most likely Nokia will make a press release next Monday saying it's "released".

I think Nokia is trying very hard but Peter said during November so that mean it can go November 30 at midnight to start shipping a very little first batch and the rest in December. One guy that posted here earlier went to Chicago Nokia meeting 2 days ago and they said ''trying very hard in November but definitivly before year end'' I think I don't know what to think....

So what if its delayed again. Even though Peter says nov. It's no like he's the project manager of this product. I think he's far away from being in the core of the development of this product.

What we could wish for is for Peter to comment on the release dates all the different nokia shops (and other shops) has announced (and actually not announced). But to be honest, i don't think he knows.

Say for example the product manager of this product + a couple of other project leaders working close to him who knows.

that's why I defected to Three, who are a teensy bit more honest and it's easy to buy a bit more data!

I'll have to read the small print a bit more on the VM site. It does say 1Gb / month, but at present I have no idea if that'll be enough for an 'always on' device. I don't want to get stung in my first month for excessive usage.
I'm planning to get my new SIM once my N900 ships, so I'll check out Three - probably next year at this rate! :(

no worries, nokia is just bs and nothing else, i hope they go bankrupt, from the bottom of my heart i do.
the only reason im wanting the n900 is the OS and ofcourse the hardware... if any other company comes with similar specs, i swear to god im gonna make all my friends to cancel and boycott nokia. Whats hurts the most is that i actually convinced12 ppl pre-order from this piece of crap company.

Re: N900 shipping delayed

It would really help if Nokia at least come out and give a specific date when there estimate this device would be released. Its sad because am sure their distribution partners as well as their loyal customers are disappointed at the lack of information coming from them. Many would have lost lots of cancellation of pre-orders and even some credibility in the eyes of their customers.

What does it take. Come out and give a statement on the status of the device. I mean it wont hurt them more than it is now. Nokia already has its credibility questioned with the fiasco that was N97. Its time Nokia stop acting like this is 2003 when it more or less dominated the smart phone market share. Now more than ever its facing stiff competitions everywhere u look. Nokia needs its loyal customers now more than ever This is not the time to alienate them. Am not saying the N900 should be out like yesterday. Rather there should be communication from Nokia to its fans on the status of the phone. Lack of communications breeds rumors. just my 2 cents

You want to hear a definitive release date? Call 09003665! For $9.99 I will tell you any date you like. And this information is bonus: N900 will be cheaper after Xmas.

(No, don't really call that number! I don't know to whom it belongs. But keep the bonus)

One good thing with all this waiting: since placing my pre-order (some months ago), the price has come down from ~€599 to ~€479...

Damn dude - take a pill.

If it is delayed again, I may well adopt a wait and see attitude but not because "whaaa I want my toy", rather delays hint at a larger issue and I would want to see how that shakes out.

Re: N900 shipping delayed

From what I'm seeing, the only straight company that didn't give faulty dates so far, is Amazon.com:

"Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. You can cancel at any time."

and that gives me a good feeling about them, that as soon as they give a date it would be exact, because at least they admit that they know how big of a mess Nokia is making, and don't wanna give its customers random dates.

The larger issue may be that Nokia has some problems with their cheaper software engineers in Asia?

Does the price usually go up after the release date? Or go down during the holidays? or something else?..LOL. I've wondered about this before.

The date is 15th November, for now. If it doesn't ship this week from the factory, then it is later this month.

From the Peter's comments it is apparent that Nokia makes the final decision to release or not to release only a few days before the planned date for the factory to ship the devices.

What's the lead time from shipping from the factory to distributor stocking? 1 week? If so, possibly at least 10 days out from when Nokia says "GO" for release? So yeah, Nokia has to make a decision to release by Mid-November if we want to have the phones in our hands this month?

I think hat's true. Also the N97 was slated end of June and shipped mid june, early as it were. So anything is possible. The next thing you will here from Nokia is most likely one of two announcements.

1) Released
2) Further delays.

Between now and the end of Nov, expect option #1.
Starting Dec, expect Option #2

I don't believe they'll "pre-announce" the release date from what it is now, that wouldn't make sense. All minus, and no plus.

I wish we had someone inside NewEgg's warehouse

My understanding is that Nokia made the famous delay decision that pushed release to November on the 21/22th October. That leaves little over one week for shipping, and distributors and shops to get ready.
