It is in the maemo-hackers repository, and they're lagging behind...

I was trying to find mh-shot. Thanks, qole. :o

The nice thing about mh-shot over load-applet is that it captures screen rotation just fine. I've had issues with load-applet capturing portrait (landscape only), whereas mh-shot handled both portrait and landscape with ease.

Have any of the N810WE owners got slide-rotate and xrandr working? I haven't yet on mine.

Be careful hacking your N810WE until you're sure you can flash the firmware! They're saying that it is fixed now, but if you bork your tablet trying to install rotation, you want to be sure you can reflash...

That's a lesson I've already learned all too well, the HARD way.

I didn't want to return my N810WE to Nokia or to AndySchism for replacement, so I learned how to recover/rebuild the N810WE firmware:...hopefully, by now, Nokia has fixed their Setup/Upgrade Wizard, but at the time, there was no Windows software to rebuild the N810WE and finding the N810WE firmware was very obscure.

I've been hesitant with kernel patches, xrender, and dev pkgs since. Until I see another N810WE owner, I'm a little more cautious with the N810WE than I was with my N810.

UPDATE: The hsetroot tool is a very nice command-line background image setter.

The following scripts, with qwerty12's packages installed in maemo, hsetroot installed in Easy Debian, and your background set to plain black, sets the desktop background to the image you supply as a parameter, and then lightens it enough to offset the transparent black background. Yes, I kill xcompmgr; all we want is transparency.

You set the initial image with startback and change the image with setback.

script name: /usr/bin/setback
Code:

debbie hsetroot -center $1 -brightness .1
script name: /usr/bin/startback
Code:

killall xcompmgr
xcompmgr &
transset-df -i 0x00c00003 --inc 1
transset-df -i 0x00c000af --inc 1
transset-df -i 0x00c00003 --dec .75
transset-df -i 0x00c000af --dec .75
setback $1

e.g.

Code:

startback /media/mmc1/wallpaper/lonesomehouse_800x480.jpg
finally, the screenshot.

Brilliant work qole!

I've compiled hsetroot for diablo and uploaded it to the same place.

Now someone needs to add image directories, timed background changes, a gui front end, and then package this all up :)

Hehehe, I don't know how to use alarmd properly, I don't know any programming language (except a bit I do know which I use to hildonize programs :P) and packaging; I'm ok with that though :D

Any volunteers? :D

Oh, thank you for the suggestion. I just wanted show the onscreen keyboards layout: the 'source' png (8000x800) is avaible here:

I was just preparing the black and white theme version to make a more complete post with both the keyboards

Why would you want a transparent background? What's behind the background that you want to see?

How the hell did you get Synapic work? (or how did you disable the shitty search-database thing?)

apt-get install synaptic in chroot from maemo and run the desktop as superuser.

@b-man.. lol
I know how to install it,, it just crashes beacuse of that "automatical search database build" (whatever) :)

Wallpaper is from gnome-look.org

Code:

rxvt -rv +sb&
xvkbd -no-keypad&
sleep 2
wmctrl -r rxvt -b add,fullscreen
wmctrl -r xvkbd -b add,fullscreen
transset-df -n xvkbd 0.5

Yes, it works; really, though, I just need to somehow bind the keyboard raising/fullscreening/transparenting to a hardware key, so I can bring it up over any app. (And find out how to use higher contrast colors, so I can reduce the opacity...)

its a nice, info dense applet.

that load avarage for one tells if the cpu is getting any traffic it should not have (and shows that even simply using the browser is a lot of work for the cpu).

and that one can now alter the font settings on one applet rather then 5+ to fit the same info into a very small space is very useful.

you have my thanks for your work on this :)

oh, and i find myself loving mnote to ;)

Yep ... it will be an option of course ... there is around 50% of people loving it ... while 50% of people hating it !

The N810WE does come with a unique theme, but it's orange. With the WiMAX Edition, Noka went with an orange motif in the carrying case, theme, and keyboard.

I took the Hildon-Plankton 4.1.43 theme and modified the index and gtkrc for a variation on Plankton (now known as "Planktken") so that it were more blue in text and highlighting, 14pt text, and 3D scrollbars. For more pictures of how theme looks, see:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/vickyke...7612498036778/

If anyone's interested, I could either tarball it for installation to /usr/share/themes or package it.

Haven't seen one, but you can edit /usr/share/themes/plankton/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, search for "font_name" and replace the desired font size values with "12". The four font sizes for the various text fields are all defaulted to 16.75 in hildon-plankton.

Since 12pt is too small for me to see while driving or getting bounced around on the DC Metro, mine is set to 14pt for all.
