Confirmed, same problem here. I had 60+ MB free on rootfs and it wouldn't let me install the update OTA, after reading this post I uninstalled BrainParty and... there ya go, it's downloading atm.

Thanks for the tip!

EDIT: asking for NSU to install update, I'll give it a shot after a while, right now the device is charging !!

why is that?

Not enough space or some installed packages have missing dependencys with the new firmware.

No, contacts, conversations and settings shouldn't be touched.
But make a backup just to be sure (I had problems with conversation history)

Yeah not enough space as nicolai suggested,

Your best off using the flasher tool to be fair, its fast and painless (Probably faster then OTA).

... it's not so muh about rootfs space guys, it's the dependencies that are the problem ... you need to get rid of the right app ... i had 41'mbs free, and was able to downloade OTA after removing tux race ... there are a few apps that have been identified as problems ...

did it say there isnt enough space in rootfs and you should remove brainparty or did you just randomly uninstalled it?

From what i can tell, if you have over 58mb of rootfs it'l decide to go ahead anyway,

But im still for the flasher 3.5 haha,

OK its asking me to install via NSU but NSU reports I have the latest update !! I want to avoid flasher, any other way? !

currently have 43MB free in rootfs !

EDIT: NSU now reports there is indeed an update available, I'll do that as soon as I'm done charging :)

Well, the update went smoothly, but where's the much-advertised portrait browsing? Nothing in the menus, and ctrl+shift+r (as mentioned in some other threads) does nothing for me.

Juhgu: Check the browser options -> settings. The option is called "Turn view" or something like that. It's not within the display/view section of the browser's options.

I would suggest that 47MB is about the minimum, depending on what apps need to be replaced in place.

Tried dist-upgrade too, out of the same reason (moved apt-cache).. Update went through, however now I am stuck inside a reboot loop. I get to the (gray, gnome-style looking) PIN input field, after entering the PIN it reboots, then I get to what looks like the desktop with an empty, pink status area, then reboot..

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Re: Maemo 5 PR1.2 released: OTA in UK - May 25, flasher - May 25, OTA & NSU worldwide - May 26

I'm a little confused. I ran App Manager to attempt to update to PR1.2(through update, the same way I would update any apps). I've got Maemo 5 listed in my update list(which wasn't there as late as last night). When I select to update it, it tells me I have to hook up to the Nokia Suite. Why is this being called an OTA update if you have to hook up to the computer?

I see some other users are saying some rogue apps are stopping the update process, but I don't know if they're just referring to the update process or not even being about to update. I have plenty of rootfs space(892MB). I've never used the Nokia Suite for past updates, do I have to do it for this one?

Updating via NSU... Halfway during the update the N900 gets "disconnected" after which the update fails and the N900 "hangs", and I have to remove/put back the N900 battery in order for the N900 to start up again.
WTF

Updating OTA worked (after temporarily disabling several catalogues) like a charm :)

Thanks! Indeed it's in the wrong place, and very obscure in Finnish ("Ota kierto käyttöön").

It now occasionally works. I've heard you can now set portrait mode in some other applications (eg. email) too. Is this correct? If so, how does it work? Ctrl+shift+r seems to do nothing.

I'm in Massachusetts and successfully did an OTA update at about 7:30am EDT with 51MB free on rootfs.

Initial reaction: Disappointed that I can't seem to get MfE working with google calendar/contacts. I know it's not supported, but it worked for me in the previous release. Without calendar/contact syncing the phone utility is greatly reduced.

No you don't need to flash the eMMC, it you're at the flasher dos box and it says "no suitable device found. Waiting" it means it hasn't detected your N900 connected to your PC. It could be due to windows drivers trying to install and therefore blocking the installation.

I had exact this same problem so booted into a live version of ubuntu 10.4 netbook and it worked first time a treat.

ubuntu FTW!

Works for me at least in both conversations and e-mail. Open the application, press Ctrl+shift+r (some finger acrobatics required here), close the keyboard and turn your N900 into portrait. Should work.

question: I noticed that when you type when on e-mail list, searches the list. Is that pr1.2 or it was there before and I didn't notice? Shame there is no way to do that without sliding the kb out.

are you doing it all in one "session" ? and no booting the phone after the firmware upgrade (using the -R command after the flasher command) ?

The search in email is new. There is also a search function in the Media Library when you have your music sorted by Album (it was previously just available in Artists, Playlists and All Songs)

Can someone please put together a list of applications with dependency issues that make the OTA update unavailable requiring you to use the NSU? Luckily I only had to scroll back a few pages to find out TuxRace was one of those apps and now the OTA is working fine. It would be nice to have a list so we narrow it down to what packages are causing this issue.

Re: Maemo 5 PR1.2 released: OTA in UK - May 25, flasher - May 25, OTA & NSU worldwide - May 26

**** mine doesnt update. It says it needs Nokia PC Suite. And that sucks. Windows sucks and Nokia PC suite sucks as well. But after a lot of hard work I got into the update program and started the update. I agreed that I was aware of the chance of losing all my files and had made a back-up(wich I didnt, cuz the ****ing Back-up software of *****ing Nokia PC Suite doesnt work). So it started to download, but after a lil minute or so it tells me 'downloading of the software failed'.
''Nokia updater tried to update the software, but failed for at least 4 times. Perhaps this is because of a bad, slow or instable internet connection, but this failure might also occur because problems with our servers.''
And above that it tells my that 'for an optimal connection i'd better connect directly, not via a USB-hub or keyboard with dock.'
But its connected just straight up to the computer(although it is going via mac trough paralells desktop to windows).
I tried updating again for about 10 times now but still the same story:(

I hope this story is clear, but can anyone PLEASE PLEASE help me, because I realy need this update:(.

thx alot in advance.

In short: Uninstall packages, especially those taking up space on your rootfs.
More detailed instructions and some hints on freeing up rootfs space (and how much free space you really(!) have using "df -h /" in Terminal) available at: http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space
