Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I've updated http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Features for today's release.
Note vibration needs a supporting program installing too. I've not tested this so not documented it on that page yet.

@maemo55 and others who are wondering why they don't see the new things should read it :-)
Remember: the defaults even after installing the CSSU are just as they were, you have to turn on the new bits.

I dont know if anyone else noticed that we mentioned some days before. After the N900 is connected using mass storage mode with a computer, store location of photos in camera application is having by default memory stick(if exists) choice.

Not a CSSU issue, AFAIK.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

tactile makes it vibrate during animation i.e. rotation? every time it rotates it'll vibrate? Including drop-down menus?

I'm more concerned about battery consumption... I think this is a more serious issue... holding the phone in portrait alone consumes more. This I definitely feel

I've only installed it this morning but here goes.

For a lot of the animations that the device outputs, for example the status menu dropping down into position, the vibration motor kicks in, albeit gently, to let you know through haptic feedback that an event is occuring. It also vibrates gently during transitions between menus and / or screen rotation. I haven't fully got to grips with where tactile kicks in yet, but if and when i do I will update further.

If you want my personal slant on it, it's unnecessary and not even really what I would call a nicety, but I will leave it in place to see if it grows on me or not.

EDIT
On a side note I installed FastSMSEvo this morning to get the alpha-numeric input keyboard system-wide. When it was first installed I needed to reboot before it was available and given priority over the standard Maemo5 VKB, but after subsequent reboots (changing transistions.ini) I have totally lost the VKB, both FastSMSEvo and Maemo5 stock. I have tried the previously mentioned battery removal but am reluctant to remove FastSMSEvo to revert to stock - as for me, alpha-numeric input with one hand is far superior to QWERTY format. Does anyone have any suggesitons?
/EDIT

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Guys, that all is definetely great, but as always there are some bugs, so i did turn everyting except that new tactile thingy (cause i don't really trust devel things, they have messed up my phone many times) and everything looks just great and superb. BUT when i locked my phone and then hold it as in a portrait mode and then push the power button, i see my lockscreen image tiled up the screen two times, and it's horizontal to the earth, so messed up a bit, although the time is situated in an expected place as in the portrait mode. I did actually chenge my lockscreen to show today's date with big words, as i saw somewhere on a MOD thread, maybe that's a causing thing, but still.... and also does everybody have to pull their hw keyboard in order to change the vkb in a text message from portrait to landscape?? And i still do need to do a lot of Shift ctrl r pressing...

Anyways, NOKIA can now **** it up=)

(Edit)
So my customization has nothing to do with it, CSSU turn the lockscreen very good especially time, but the lockslider.png does tiles up the whole screen, i think powerful guys behind this CSSU could somehow stick in any lockscreenPortrait.png thingy... who knows

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

thanks Switch_

i think this tool is useless for me. i also disabled vibration feedback for touch on the screen

then, the in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU guys should implement a donate button here....for us to thank them and for them to feel their work appreciated. Otherwise, I believe, this will come to an end if not encouraged.
Habemus Maemo5 SSU team!. Long live Maemo5!

100% agree, donate for the cssu team!!!

Totally agree regarding donation! If any deserves it the the cssu team do.

Or we could have some sort of bidding war, the most donations towards a certain update haha that would be interesting!

A reboot button in power key would be a good a addition to the CSSU as there isn't any package providing it and it's something most noob users wouldn't deal with.

Most 'noob' users have no need to do frequent reboots.

Not really, as almost everyone is using stuff from devel and applications can crash or hang the system.

The power key menu is where you would look for a reset button. Power off and power on can't be done quickly.

Really ? Do we have some unique-devices download counts from the repository to back that up ? I've not seen any....

I agree it's where you'd look. The work around I think is obvious however, even to non technical users.
I believe Community SSU policy is (will/should be) not to ship anything that could just be an app in Extras, however.

No you shouldn't. But you might (it's in testing after all).
Do a backup, copy the backup off the phone.

Shouldn't be so easy to package if it hasn't been done yet.

I'm sorry if I upset you with such unimportant things. If nobody is willing to do it, there is no need to argue about it. I just tried to propose a very easy to implement feature in the CSSU that might be useful for some users.

it's simply awesome what you guys did!
special thanks fly out to thp!
much love and respect to the whole cssu team!

Anyway, I don't get the "auto-rotation" right.
It works. after I enabled it trough the transitions.ini But to trigger rotation, I have to open and close the keyboard.
I thought the screen will rotate, simply when I rotate the device...

Any hint on that ?

Oh, and maybe you guys wanna try my "awesome-transitions.ini", I've attached. :)

you need to rename the downloaded file to "transitions.ini" and move it to it's place on the device.

I've installed the latest update which contains hildon-home 0.3.71-5, and it's supposed to enable 9 desktops (Bug 11933), but I still only get 4.

Other stuff like rotation works great though, thanks a lot!

Isn't that one for the Developers to answer themselves? They have included the 9 desktops I requested, which is also available as an app, so perhaps they will also include the reboot button which I also feel should have come as standard on the phone/mobile computer anyway..

I also agree with the OP that virtually ever N900 owner who uses this forum is also now using all of the repos.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

just found out, that apps that were started via an desktop shortcut won't auto rotate.
(you need to open close the keyboard to make the screen rotate)

Apps started via (portrait)Menu will open in portrait. But screen won't show landscape when phone is flipped again.

StocChr 2011-02-22 18:45

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

apps also started via icon open in portait mode when the phone is hold vertical

wenn du das telefon hochkant hältst und auf das email icon drückst, startet der client im porträt modus, umschalten geht bei mir nur mit tastatur

cheers

Just curious: is there any stats about how many people has downloaded CSSU ?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I'm having trouble with portrait-support. I have made these changes to /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini:
Code:

zaxisrotation = 1
forcerotation = 1

Applications such as HAM and settings won't rotate even with ctrl+shift+r and applications with build in support for rotation such as filebox show the same old effect :(

Love the custom transitions. I believe the issue you are having is well known and last word was that its a work in progress.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Sorry about the rotation issues, someone (arcean) already provided a patch and I'll get it in asap.

Oh and about tactile feedback, if you've used an N8, you'll know what we're aiming for (the tactile feedback on the N8 is epic), which would provide a better UI experience.
