I was watching Apple announce '3dTouch' yesterday which essentially boils down to context sensitive menus aka right-clicking aka cover actions thinking that that would solve a lot of issues in Sailfish.

Odd though that Apple are adding power-user options while Jolla are removing theirs in an effort to dumb the UI down so 'normal' users don't get confused by swipe gestures.

The launcher style is relatively easy to patch. Unfortunately I have no time to make an rpm of it now...

I there a way to clear/clean notifications "the old way" with pull-down command (or smth else) and everything is cleared?

Right now I have to click on notification, but this also launches app (like mail).

Also, as mentioned before I really miss pull-down menu with quick settings and apps in home menu. Current workflow (lock screen, wake screen, pull down) is strange :)

Steve is dead, thats why Apple seems to loose its focus and starts to please mediocre markets IMHO.
Jolla needs to take an example from 2004-2010 Apple, when they still were able to combine vision with making money. The Market opportunity is gonne thou, explaining most of Jollas problems.

On Jollas advanced features / power user options, i hope it is a decision to temporarily cut them down in favour to put all manpower in revamping the ui and finishing the 2.0 milestone (whatever that means).
Maybe they needed to change integral parts behind the scenes (notification system?) that cut of all features and now they are focusing on reimplementing from ground up. (Twitter feeds?)
Meaning, advanced ui features are possible not gone forever anyhow but could come back slowly with next updates even without us moaning?
Just my humble and patient estimate, not wanting anyone to hold back his legitimate criticism on the current release!

Ah sorry, I was unclear. I mean, I need the quick swipe to notifications, but at the moment I'm forced to have it on the left side. This cripples my ability to swipe to homescreen which is needed 10 times more often. Especially when having phone in horizontal position.

As a card-carrying member of a market deemed mediocre by Jobs, I have to say I applaud this change. I've had less and less interest in the junk being pumped out by Apple lately. The Mac Mini is the only desktop of theirs that I've been able to stomach (and they kind of emasculated it in their most recent update), I've totally given up on their phones, and until yesterday, had zero interest in their tablets. Finally, they've come out with a stylus, and a decent one at that!

With any luck, they'll start making real, expandable desktop computers again (at least ones that don't start at $3000 and go up from there). ;)

EDIT: My apologies for being off-topic here. I'd love to say something on point, but I'm still waiting to receive a Sailfish-based device. ;)

As the tablet will be my first SFOS experience, do you all think 2.0 brings the user experience closer to the N9 swipe experience or not? That's what i'm after in my devices, as well as easy ways to get things on/off the device.

Jolla has seemed like the closest thing going for this, but the 2.0 discussion here has been interesting; i just can't tell if they are going in the direction i prefer (i think they are. Really can't wait for this tablet to see).

I am not "you all" but what I can say for myself is - definitely!

As far as that bit goes, you may find that things are not that rosy. There is no Jolla Suite for easy PIM backup, CalDAV is flaky... There is a way to sync your contacts from another phone and Nokia N900 was explicitly listed, but it never worked for me and I had to copy the contacts manually.

If by "things" you mean just files, then that should be fine. But beware that the device is somewhat crippled out of the box (no default file manager, no terminal...) and you will have to install a lot of stuff first before you can start using it. Which, of course, requires the network. If your WiFi password is as complex as mine, this may be a challenge. I usually just copy a text file with my WiFi password to my new devices, then select, copy and paste the WiFi password in the entry box. None of those steps were available on an out-of-the-box Jolla: no text viewer, file manager or terminal to dump the file contents, select and copy works in only about three applications and none of them are installed by default, and paste is not available in the WiFi password entry box. So I had to type the password manually, but the Jolla developers, in their infinite wisdom, made the damn thing time out before I typed half of the characters.

It was a challenging time but it was worth it in the end ;)

But marketwise, you can see how well companies are doing when they focus and rely on "us" as customers :rolleyes:
