Could you please elaborate on what exactly would require mainlining? I'm not interested in downstream kernels but mainline has included support for Freedreno for some time now and a5xx support was initially added a couple of years ago. There was a video a while back showing Plasma Mobile running with Mesa and Freedreno on mainline Linux on the Nexus 5 (a3xx).

I do not know much of the details, but regarding graphics you need support for clocks/regulators at least to boot kernel, then iommu should be working. Also there needs to be a driver for display panel. This issue at postmarketOS repo can be interesting to see general process, though the attempted device is Snapdragon 845.

Yes, that is very true, support will need to be added for clocks, regulators, iommu, display, etc., but most, if not all of that is device specific (or SoC specific), it's needed even if you don't want video acceleration, and falls outside the domain of Freedreno. Don't quote me on this, but as far as I can tell, Freedreno for the a5xx is already mainlined and should be ready to go.

I've no idea about the downstream/Android kernel, but support for USB-related nodes is currently in the MSM maintainer's for-next branch and should land in Linux 5.1:

EDIT:

...and it looks like full support in mainline is not far away:

I rechecked my post you quoted, what I meant was "device would need mainlining in order to be able to use Freedreno", sorry it came confusing. Well, still enough to be done either way.

The lady once had another belly as well, but she had to starve herself for a long time, otherwise it wouldn't have been possible to carry her new phone in her pockets...

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

To clarify on the pouch outcry, my comments on the matter were (at least) two-fold and separated:
1 - What actually is the case in the Limited Edition ?
2 - Did the team do some research on what the Pro1 will fit in when it comes to the current market ?
2.1 - I happen to prefer pouches
2.2 - I do prefer my pouches *without* belt attachments (AKA in-pocket)
2.2.1 - I used this one for my N900, for instance
TL;DR: I was *not* advocating for any kind of case (pouch or not, belt or not...) to be shipped with the Pro1, be it on Limited Edition or the regular one.

Everything, since I to like to keep my screen as pristine as possible, and I can't be confident in what may be happening in my pockets... and even less outside (even though, or because, I never ever cracked a screen).
Plus the clip-on adds bulk when *using* the phone, which is a big no-no for me (even more so as the devices get bigger).

A serious question:
What kind of trousers are you normally wearing?
I'm used to wear slim fit jeans or cargo trousers. I think with my cargo trousers there shouldn't be a problem. But putting a 6 inch device with 14 mm of thickness, which sticks inside a pouch in a my jeans is simply impossible. I hope that it will fit in some way in without any case. But I fear even that will not be comfortable. Sometimes my Xperia X (inside a slim case) is already uncomfortable.

a phone would fit in any pouch that is big enough, so finding a generic one with the perfect fit is possible.
but other types of cases suck balls if they arent designed to fit your specific phone, so i was actually hoping to see the one included actually be a specific design for the phone.

and unless this becomes a massive sales hit i dont see any 3rd party manufacturers making specific cases for it.

that doesnt seem to be protecting the part that needs protection. and it protrudes the edges, so you lose the benefit of the curved glass.

my vote goes to the flip case, book type to be more precise (vertical flip case is a little awkward in combination with a landscape slider)

I prefer a pouch case as well, though I never stick the phone in my trouser pocket unless the knee pocket of cargos. Guess how my Gemini got that big dent in it? :o

Find the guys who made the AX-Alex pouch cases for the N900 in Germany (their website seems dead). Easily the best case I've ever had for any phone, mine still looks like new even now.

Second place is the Nutshell cases, they will custom make to the device size, but their postage charges from NZ are a killer.

I don't wear slim trousers or any kind of jeans.
Of course I also try to stay away from small pockets ;)

My Z30+pouch fit nicely in my trousers, with room to spare, so I'm not too worried about the Pro1 on that matter.
I'm not winning a fashion contest any time soon, though :(

I [d/w]on't do Twitter, but thanks for the tip nonetheless.

At least now I know I won't need the Limited Edition/pre-order for the stuff that will come with the phone

Still waiting on Chen to comment on the time-frame of the pre-order, though ;)

this is the bg image for the video:

dont know how to link to the video directly so you'll have to go on twitter to see him turn it around (you dont need a twitter account to watch the video on twitter).

it's a clip on cover, but only on the back part, so no protruding plastic on the front, but no protection at all for the front either.

could use it to hack your own flipcase i guess, by glueing a leather flap on it.

Yupp, agreed.
All pouch, flip and what not cases only need to fit the size "roughly" and you can scale up in price with leather and stuff to your own liking.
A clear case however is a negative mold of the phone case and as others mentioned not likely to be available for this device from any other source due to low volume.

What are the possible means of protecting the screen from cracking? My phone tends to fall on the floor too often.

Currently I use a screen protector (which's already broken) and a heavy-duty case. The former is easy, what about the latter?

Use tempered glass screen protectors.
They will be available for the Pro1, sold separately

Yes and no.. It will be protecting good. But protection is never enough. Like, you can add a lock to your bike, but they can still steal it. It'll be just harder to do it.

The best way to protect your phone, is just not using it dropping your phone at all :p

It’s better to block the one you like to read to make easier to see when they post. Since that way you can single out the post easier between all the spam. That’s how I do it ;) you never miss an important post! Just make sure to never block more than one at the time.

Btw. Protecting screens. Use flexible glass

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

From fxforum i found this:
”Team FXtec designed the whole device. But part of our engineers of the slider part, who has previously involved in designing Nokia sliders.”

Thats not what the first post say:
”Phone is designed by ex Nokia designers (who designed the E7-00, N97, N950)”

I think the line is missleading if not conpletly made up. If you still want it there. Atleast add slider after Phone.

But as I Said before Fx designed Phone and it should probobly say that. But that is ofcource obvious so it can be removed completly ;)

Not at all. Atleast not to me. But correct information is important. Otherwise we can say that we designed it. the information in first post here is completely incorrect and easy to change. Since new info appeard.

FX dude gave correct info so that is important so someone that cares about design knows a bit more. that’s good. The question was more directed to info on first post in this thread. if we want to update our info accordingly or give false info.

I asked if they could give an optional skin instead of a case. Considering phone size and weight, the last thing I want is to add bulk or weight with a case, even a small case. Skin will give grip and keep sleek lines of the phone intact
