@digittante: thanks for investigating, but none of this is new information here. BTW, some of the "new features" you listed are already in PR 1.1.1, so... no point.

Thanks... and yes it is supposed to be fixed. That is why I asked. :)

Is it fixed in the PR 1.2 firmware we are talking about in this thread?

... and wow!

I didn't realize bugzilla has become so noisy. I see a lot of "expert" opinion from people who have no real Idea and no reason to be posting there in the first place.

It confuses the issue and might affect the enthusiasm of those tasked with creating a solution. I know I would not look forward to dealing with all the extraneous BS.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

I mentioned above my Maemo 5 upgrade message. I managed to get rid of it with apt-get -f update.

Then, in the spirit of wild experimentation, I ran apt-get dist-upgrade and some new files installed and I felt like my system ran quicker and more smoothly.

So far I'm happy with the leaked firmware update but still looking forward to the real one.

I think that Nokia can and should be nicer to us on-the-edge (or is it on-the-ledge?) people. After all, it seems to me that we represent the true spirit of N900 users.

From Wiki:
"How to activate Extras-devel

In the Application Manager:

1. Navigate to the application menu (tap the title bar)
2. Select ‘Application catalogs’
3. Select ‘New’
4. Enter a catalog name of ‘Maemo extras-devel’
5. Enter a web address of http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel
6. Enter a distribution of ‘fremantle’
7. Enter components of ‘free non-free’
8. Select ‘Save’

Note 'fremantle' only has one 'e'. "

For me this worked out just fine.

That worked, thanks!

Re: I installed leaked PR1.2 and did not die...

I too flashed my n900 yesterday after reading the other threads about the leaked PR 1.2 to know about their reliability and found it to be working well without any issues. The features are really awesome. I was disappointed that the Skype video call option was not available in this but the SIP call options do support video calls( I'm yet to try them though). The standby screen that appears when we press the power button now also show the missed calls, new messages and new mails.

the only reason, that i keep hoping for PR1.2 is because skype video call. Can you have the gtalk video call initiated by n900? If yes, then i will keep my hope.

I did not find an option of video call for gtalk until now in the contact list but people have posted that they've tried and were successful. Just google and see, you'll find details on that. There's thread on this topic,

Someone please tell me which other phone on the market allows skype/google video call function (both ways)???

N97. thats what.(through fring though).

So can people please stop spamming threads with "video call is a MUST".
How is it a must if you've never had it before? how has it become your most needed function from a hand device? It would be great to have (i actually used it quite it a bit on the N97.

Re: I installed leaked PR1.2 and did not die...

How about that it worked for me too... It broke the conversation app and the GSM data monitor tool(this is likely due to the new home network data counter not GSM in the phone options, Nokia this is a stupid change I don't want to keep track of home internet use combined with GSM)... Please tell me if this is a one off...
The refinements are worth it though with the online accounts seeming to work a heap better, as in logging in every time...
I can confirm it did kept all my contacts, messages and data such as photos...

I used a Virtual 32 bit XP as Vista 64 had trouble and used the command:
flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.12-9_PR_C
OMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

So calls work, conversations work, email works, all the basics so far... Maps is a little different, still crap(ie. no voice guidance)... but search results are a little better...

So if you really feel like an update give it a go... It won't kill you! :) it will break a few apps though...

But all in all at the end of the day what is the update with out it's Qt apps from the store??? It holds nothing against android or apple. We don't even have a thousand useless apps...

Choice is worth nothing if you have nothing to choose...

Just my 3 fity...

I'm running live wallpaper, but it is the variety already available for everyone, I think. It's in one of the repositories and has a thread.

i'm running it now for a few days, nice improvements, overclocked at 750Mhz, runs nice.

the new stuff is working great, now only portrait for textmessaging.

ussd widget and ussd cal apps, you don't need anymore, the normal phone app does it now also.

directory tree is changed, so will look for the new stuf and modding system icons like the previous version.

ive tried generic, 002 and so on. searched high an low and now i'm stuck.

If your Settings - About Product is showing <unknown> after kernel mod: (It's not important but for those who care)
1. Launch xterminal
2. sudo gainroot (assuming you have rootsh installed)
3. apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-generic-pr (this name can be different. instead of generic, it may be 002 or 003 etc)
4. reboot

This still doesn`t work for me?Help?

Not sure if it's mentioned before (can't bother going through 900 posts), but one thing I really like now is that, you can control the volume of the music even with the screen turned off...

I had something similar to this but not exactly the same. After finishing one call, I had to wait for my credit balance(USSD) to get displayed and then an error message coming in and then only i was able make another call. Meanwhile when I tried to call before the error message, the phone returned to the desktop without proceeding with the call.

Following up on my original "...and I did not die" post from 3 days ago (available in full here):
  • Sorry for the duplicate thread, and thanks to Reggie for merging it here
  • Thanks also to Reggie for tolerating discussion of the leaked firmware on a Nokia-sponsored community (he and I exchanged a few PM's and are in agreement on handling this topic
  • The leaked PR1.2 introduced errors on my device, so I've reverted to PR1.1.1

Specific errors were: Contact information synced via Exchange Server did not persist across device reboots or network switches (i.e. going from WiFi to 3G or vice-versa). In 3 days, I had to reset the Exchange Server sync settings 2 dozen times, regardless of whether I used Google's sync feature or NuevaSync's.

Also, upon every reboot, a warning notice appeared indicating "An internal error has occurred; can not proceed" (paraphrased).

With 1400+ contacts, unstable retention of them was a deal-breaker.

I reflashed easily back to PR1.1.1 via the standard method, encountered the expected 'unrecognized SIM' error, and overcame that with the published method. Then I restored everything else from my latest Backup

After this little glimpse of the future (or at least the PR1.2-future), I'm happily back in PR1.1.1-ville.

Props to the community for developing all the resources that enabled me to take this little adventure. You all rock (except Abill_UK when he's cranky...;-))

Yes. I don't think we know of anyone who has had their phone damaged by the fw however.
(f2thak's phone is fixed and cannot say it was anything related to the leaked fw that he had yet)

This is not a very good description.

Try for instruction 3

3. apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-*

and report

(1) What you tried and
(2) What error message you received.

PR1.2(L) is excellent! I love using the volume button in the browser and the back button, the phone feels the same as with PR 1.1.No dependancy problems and I like the new email widget....so everything is positive foe me.
