More recent headlines...
Is Growing Smartphone Market a Curse For Nokia Corporation? (NYSE:NOK, NOK) "Shares of NOK closed lower by 3.14% to $3.70 on Friday after hitting a 15-year low of $3.69. For the week, the stock was about 8%. The stock has lost over 50% since Elop announced the deal with Microsoft."Nokia Oyj Stock Downgraded (NOK) "Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its deteriorating net income, disappointing return on equity, poor profit margins, weak operating cash flow and generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself." I do love the incredible optimism of this one, though: Nokia Rating Increased to Equal Weight at Evercore Partners (NOK) "A number of other analysts have also recently weighed in on NOK. Analysts at Benchmark Co. upgraded shares of Nokia from a “hold” rating to a “buy” rating in a research note to investors on Thursday. They now have a $45.00 price target on the stock."Wow... oooookay. But then it goes on to contrast... "Thursday. Finally, analysts at Zacks downgraded shares of Nokia from a “neutral” rating to an “underperform” rating in a research note to investors on Friday, April 13rd. They now have a $3.75 price target on the stock." Regarding the Lumia 900's US sales numbers in particular: Can Microsoft Survive Digital Darwinism? "The Lumia 900 smartphone had a problem with suddenly dropping high-speed data connections. Not a good first impression, guys. To remedy the problem, Nokia is offering a full refund to all customers before today. While Microsoft won't divulge sales figures for its mobile platform, Nokia said sales of the new Lumia had been 'mixed,' according to The New York Times." |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
To be or not to be, in the future, that is the question for Nokia.
To make Tizen-devices or die, that is the answer. "2.66 Euros = 3.50189 U.S. dollars" and going down. |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
Guys, I have lost a few dollars on the last days news, but when all people are selling, I'm buying and you get it cheaper and cheaper too.
Lets see how things turn out 2,5 years from now. I'm still supprised that people like you just go after the negatives. Just look at history and some of the most valueble companies have been worth almost nothing at some point. It goes up and down. This goes for everything; countries, life, stocks...even beers. But do not put all your beers in the same thread. Spread the beers to several threads if some threads are deleted in the future. |

Just because a once stellar company goes in the toilet doesn't mean it will rise again. Palm? (remember when they went windows?) Sun? 3dfx? Etc.

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
In the news: a company called Fitch lowered Nokia's rating as a stock to 'below investment grade' and commented that the rating could go lower. Nokia is expected to lay off more employees to improve the bottom line.

Only a sad thing for the employees but it serves this company well ..
Their stock downrated to crap reflects nice on their work ethics the last few years.. They had it coming! |

Speculations go toward the one and only Tizen phone being the Wave III, currently running Bada 2. The war is over, Android rulez. It does make sense. Android is open source. Anyone and anybody can download and use it for their device. Nobody is forced to use Google market. Maybe Apollo has a chance? The point is, it's all very theoretical by now, because nobody cares anyway. Android got everything most people want, and more. MS does not put anything more or better on the table. Competition would be welcome, but the competition has to be competitive, WP is not. When Samsung gives up on Bada, Samsung the number one locomotive in consumer electronics, then Nokia has little chance with WP. And if Nokia does not within a week or two confirm firmly that Lumia will be upgradable to Apollo, then Nokia is doomed. MS will follow, Windows 8 is a drag, no one likes it. Today I see only gloom for Nokia, and the stock keeps going down. Edit: The stock is going up :D Maybe just maybe there is some hope ? |
Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
Oh my oh my, so much gloom and doom, one would think that you people havent heard that modern medicine has treatments ranging from violent such as ECT to mild, such as pill popping. There is nothing unexpected in what is going on with NOKIA. They need to lose weight, couple of pounds, they need to sweat and they need to work hard to be competitive. If they become extinct, so what? Another will rise and carry on the torch, its the beauty of human innovation.
I for one, see NOKIA on the right path. They do need to downsize, perhaps half of what they used to be, and focus, focus, focus on few good products. The future is cloudy, but so is anyones future. You got to fight and go for it. GOOOOOOO NOKIAAAAAAA and LUMIAAAAAA:) |

The Android camp actually have some cool stuff, and the future there looks bright (bright regarding more cool stuff). Then B2G and Tizen. Tizen on the Wave III could be a very nice experience, B2G on the Wave III could be nice - if I get over my distaste for a pure HTML5 phone. This could very well be the key for a totally open OS, even though the code would be ugly as hell. |

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
android fanatics on this forum seems to be just as blind as lumiaman and iphone idiots.
the kill of bada, webos and maemo is ****ing not good for endusers! I prefer alternatives. But reading this forum how fantastic android is make me wanna puke! For **** sake wake up from this ridicilous android religious fanatism:( elop is an idiot but thinking android was better way to go is plaon stupid. and to nokia: wakeup get the damn lowend qtdevices out before q2 end or else your are toyally doomed!!! |

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
What's funny (to me at least in a strange way) is that I am quite the gadgeteer and own a couple iPhones, an iPad2, a few webOS devices (including a 16 GB AT&T Pre 3), an ICS tablet, older Symbian phones and now and N9. Of all of those I'd rank webOS #1 for usability and MeeGo #2. Both "dead" OSes. Ah well.

Nokia's Stock Downgraded To Junk Status
Quoting a Google+ posting: "Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The once 'untouchable' market leader has officially been dowgraded to "junk" status by Fitch ratings agency, due to a more than halving of sales volume this time last year, and a bitterly negative future outlook (http://goo.gl/RCWU9). It would seem betting the company on a smartphone OS that was struggling to break into the market in a meaningful way wasn't the smartest of ideas, eh?" http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Uf...s400/jokia.png You CAN reach your goals! Elop is living proof! heh As I said, even on the social networks, I seem to sense the same sort of distaste and hostility toward Elop that we're seeing on here. |

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock!
I don't think Android is particularly interesting based on my limited experience with owning three Android tablets, though I'm happy that the one I still have, the Iconia A500, is getting ICS in a few days.
I still use my N900 more than anything else, including my desktop and laptop computers. I'm using it now in preference to a tablet sitting 3 inches away from it. |
