HAM, menu, settings do rotate. Mail and conversations don't...

MohammadAG 2011-02-22 20:42

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Rotation bug fixed in version 12.1 which is now in the repository.

To get 9 views, scroll horizontally and select the desktops you want, they're black since there's no background set to them.

You need to enable forced rotation in /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini (set 0 to 1) to force rotation of all applications (conversations included).

A future update will include portrait support in modest.

Guys,

Updates keep getting better and better! I still seem to be one of the few who has had little issue, and catorise and portrait mode work a treat (a year and a half waiting for nokia to do it so it was quite a thrill to see it happen after update). Only noticed a few other places where automatic rotation happens such as settings so will need to play around a bit more or read changelog but I just wanted to thank those of you who are working on developing this. It appears to be a very thankless task judging by a lot of the posts in here but I definetely appreciate it and salute you all. Keep up the good work dudes!

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Great work, absolutely thrilled to see this community effort.

I won't install yet as i have a broken USB slot so can't reflash if necessary - once it's fixed i'll take the plunge.

One question though, the main thing that will make me install this is the portrait mode, so how do i "enable forced rotation in /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini (set 0 to 1) to force rotation of all applications (conversations included)" ?

I have no option to scroll horizontally on the menu headed "Activate views"? Just the usual 4 desktops with "ticks" on them

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Just edit the file with your favourite editor, and change the value of forcerotation from 0 to 1, have a look at the file:
http://gitorious.org/community-ssu/h...ns.ini#line199

Which version are you on? Version 12+ should have the 9 desktops:

what about [thp_tweaks]
# Blurless desaturation (0 = default, 1 = MeeGo/Symbian-style)
blurless = 1
what is its function?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I guess I am a little confused - but in the latest build should apps such as conversations auto rotate based on the orientation of the phone.

IE I turn portrait app switches portrait and vice versa

For me it only seems to go portrait when I launch in portrait and landscape when I slide out keyboard.

The *latest* binary packages fix the issue with keyboard rotational triggering.

Update your catalog and fetch or manually install http://repository.maemo.org/communit...42-9_armel.deb and restart the hildon-desktop process

@MohammadAG;

I can confirm issue with 9 view desktops panning not being "available" in hildon-desktop. Is this set through gconf now or maybe accidentally disabled in hildon-home?

richwhite 2011-02-22 21:21

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Will doing forced rotate on all apps also switch the virtual keyboard?

And any comments on rotating homescreens? Not whether it will be done, but how it renders the portrait screens

Thats so strange. I had previously enabled 9 desktops and was able to see them in the views slider. When I disabled them as a test and went back into the slider again only 4 presented as an option.

Not sure what that means

Can you quickly try this deb and see if it works? You need to reboot or killall hildon-home (mind you, doing this a lot might reset widgets to the "safe" list).
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/hildon-...71-5_armel.deb

If it works I'll push the fix.

out of curiosity I tried the above. I disabled the five new desktops.
then I enabled them again. works nicely here. I was not using the 9 desktops mod before it came with the cssu update if this makes any difference.

update. checked and my hildon-home was already 0.3.71-5

With Catorise installed rotation will go back to main menu with all categories instead of staying inside the chosen category.

I think not, but I've had your same problem before upgrading to 12.1

No, I've said it many times, edit /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini and change forcerotation = 0 to 1.

Even after you have chosen a specific category? If I rotate after having chosen a category, is goes to the main windows with all the categories.

SLIDE THE KEYBOARD AND THEN CLOSE IT BACK. IT WILL ROTATE THE MOMENT YOU CLOSING YOUR KEYBOARD.

Rotation is not automatically, it's a forcerotation. If you slide the keyboard out again it will stopped rotate, to rotate again just slide your keyboard out and close it back in.

Try this in xterminal:
Code:

cp /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini /opt/usr/share/themes/default/transitions.ini
killall hildon-desktop

`cat /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini | grep force | awk '{print $3}'`

:p :p :p

I'm sure it's poll-able though. Ignore me.

AH HA!! that did it.

i used this but instead of "default" did "my theme name"

worked like a charm.

didnt know there would be different transistions.ini files for themes.

good to know.

thank you.

My problem is related to custom themes that may uses custom transitions.ini files...but perhaps forcerotation can be defined only in that file :)

EDIT:read the post before mine to understand what I mean :)
