Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

Hi, If we flash using maemo updater/navifirm will we lose all our texts, apps etc?
Also anyone managed to update a Swedish N9 yet?

randomdood 2011-11-14 15:58

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

depends what you flash. if you use software updater you will loose apps but not texts/contacts.
either way, make a backup before hand.

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

navifirm does not remove your media/texts but does remove your settings/apps.

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

My messages app no longer shows the names for any of my contacts. I can only see the number. However the contact avatar is there. Anyone else noticed this?

The contacts are all stored, with one number only having one contact but all i see now is +447........ for all the mobile numbers that have text me.

I saw this also on mine, but after receiving a sms from these contacts ( or a call Don't really remembre )
All numbers has been replaced by contacts names

This is getting annoying. When I open a message the name of the person appears but otherwise it is quite spontaneous. Other then clovis no one else noticed this?

Yes, had this on mine, too. Only with PR1.1.

Seems quite intermittent, didn't have this now for the last three days...

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

Hi - probably a stupid question, I have tried seaching and cant find the answer! I'm in the UK and I got my N9 on Friday. I assume that its still on PR1.0 but have no idea how to confirm this!? The NSU says that no updates are available but this appears common regardless of version. I'm also not sure of how to tell which region it was orignially intended for (bought in the UK from Expansys).

Any guidance would be apprecaited.

p.s. Love this phone. :)

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

easiest way is to launch a music
then lock your phone
double tap on your screen
if directly from your lock screen you got the music controller, you got pr 1.1,
if not, you got PR 1.0 and need to update :)

Settings>About Product

The version is listed there. Mine says PR1.1 (20.2011.40-4_PR_009) now but I'm not sure it said PR1.0 before. The version number will start with 10 for PR1.0.

Thansk V much (both!) - Yes it starts with a 10 so must still be PR1.0. Thanks. Will wait for the update!

If it wasnt for the avatar's i have with each number I wouldnt know who is texting me. I also get the frequent no number when someone calls me bug.

Anyone logged this? or know where I can log this.

Another bug - twitter. I rarely use it to tweet but i've noticed recently if I try to retweet someone elses tweet i get an error saying "unable to retweet".

clovis86 2011-11-16 14:52

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

yes but the retweet works fine for me

Its not strange for bugs to be absent on some devices but present on others. Also not strange that a PR update brings with it new bugs whilst adding new features.

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

twitter bug was already here in pr 1.0

Edit: works when disconnected from pc. Thunderstruck is already my ringtone!

I've had this problem before. Use a file manager to move them into the root folder, mine eventually showed up! I think its just buggy!

not sure i will ever get PR1.1 I have a denmark handset! not really keen on messing around with it! so still waiting...

Flashing North Europe PR1.1 from NaviFirm to our Danish eBay N9 worked without any problems... I am happy PR1.1 owner since last week! :)

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

I also get unable to retweet, but i get that on twitter.com as well, so im assuming it has nothing to do with the n9?

Then again if i look at tweets in my timeline i can see the tweet i tried to retweet from my n9, and it says "undo retweet", which wont undo anything since twitter.com doesnt show me having retweeted it at all.

"Undo retweet" turns briefly into "retweet", which when pressed says this:

"Your account may not be allowed to perform this action. Please refresh the page and try again."

Which doesnt help.

So it seems my n9 broke twitter.

If you're device is branded (SingTel, etc), then you have to thank that branding company for the delay.... that is, *IF* they even care to release the update. Thank Goodness for Flashing.

Interesting. I wonder if the twitter app does not have permission to retweet. But if you cant do it from the website then..it makes no sense.

Screw it. I'll put this as one of those quirky things I can live without. Now lets discuss battery life :P - mine lasted 4 hours today.

-3G (i cant use 2G as my vodafone booster at home requires 3G)
-Push email
-30 mins of music
-1 hour of web browsing.

It's only happened to me when I have had a duplicate contact entry with the same number, usually arising from syncs. Once merged, it sorted itself out and the message app shows the name.

I'm tempted but think i will hold tight! I'm sure it can't be long before its available! Don't really want to mess with it really!

Was quite annoyed to see Expansys UK selling the 64gb black for £555! maybe i should have waited! Might of had my ground to stand on if for example a scratch appeared!!

Asked Nokia UK about the warranty and they won't touch it if the part is not available in the UK! So will have to live with it! :(

Maybe you should remind them about their own EU-wide warranty policy:

http://europe.nokia.com/support/repa...epair/warranty

"However, if you have purchased the Product in a member state of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland or Turkey and Nokia originally intended the Product for sale in one of these countries, this Limited Warranty is valid and enforceable in all of these above listed countries."

So warranty-wise the EU as a whole is treated as a single country and no matter in which member state of the EU (in this case Denmark) you bought the phone, they are forced to repair it in any other EU country (UK in this case).

cool! thanks for this! i will keep going with it then! but your quote does say "Nokia originally intended the Product for sale in one of these countries" and as its not intended for the UK i have a feeling they may get me back on that one!

slai 2011-11-17 15:49

Re: N9 PR1.X: answer questions & get help!

It doesnt matter if its intended for the UK, as long as it was intended for the country you bought it from, according to what Im reading there.

If you got it in Denmark and you live in a country within the EU, or Turkey, Norway, and those others, youre good to go. Warranty stands.

If you lived in Ethiopia and bought one from Denmark, youd not be entitled to it, since youre not in one of the countries listed there.

Also if you live in one of the coutries you listed there but got the device in China, youd also not have anything to stand on there.

Yes, I also read it this way. It was intended for sale in Denmark ("originally intended the Product for sale in one of these countries") and you want to have warranty in the UK ("this Limited Warranty is valid and enforceable in all of these above listed countries." --> EU, that is, of which the UK is part).

From what Nokia UK told me it is covered but only if i send it to Denmark and get in contact with them! which would mean shipping back over! not entirely sure i would want to do that! The scratch is not that bad! The only reason I'm annoyed was because i know i didn't do anything to cause it! I would hold my hands up if had done it! and we did spend nearly £600! on reflection thats a lot of money!!

Sorry - I guess this should be back in my scratch thread really!

thanks for all your help though i will be quoting that back to Nokia later in another email later! :)

If they still deny it, don't bother writing more e-mails. Directly contact their phone support line and if the support person at the phone is also denying you the warranty, let them forward you to their manager...

It's often the case that support guys don't have knowledge about all company policies. But that's also part due to many support lines not being operated by the companies themselves but being outsourced to other service companies...

Got a question... my Australian black n9 has finally been detected by NSU for the PR 1.1 update (yay!). I am now in the process of backing up my data.. does the update delete the backup file on the phone also??

Thanks :)

Update does not delete the files which lie in the /home/user/MyDocs/
So the answer is no. All your files, including the backup stored in /home/user/MyDocs/.backup/ will stay.
But it's recommended to copy it off your phone on to the PC just in case. You just never know. =P
