Interesting question, this can make some games easier to play.

Unfortunally, I would not know a way to define this in GnGeo itself :(

thats exactly what I want
For ex to play ssidk it`s really dificult without diagonal moves.
It would be grat to have that or maybe we can use accelemymote?
Thanks

If you have the chance to buy a Game Gripper... don't miss it! It's really useful for these kind of emulators.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Seeing some attempts to run emulators directly from the Pandora handheld, I was curious about their gngeo version.

So I tried to run them and see if, and how they would act. Maybe someone is interested in the findings, so here is a small post.

Version 0.7
I needed an extra library to make it work. It didn't show any real difference with the N900 version that can be found in the repository.

Version 0.8.3
This version has it's own basic GUI build in. In full screen mode it runs somewhat too fast. In windowed mode it runs a bit too slow. The output looks a bit enhanced for the screen resolution of our phone. Gameroms have to be conform mame v0.106 convention.

Conclusion:
Both versions suffer the same issue as the one in the maemo repository: they crash in fullscreen mode in combination with OSD (when for example the volume is changed). Gngeo 8.3 acts somewhat unstable at certain moments.

It was interesting to test it, but not more than that :(

Some (I hope) minor improvements in version 0.0.5-3 :
- Introduction of menu bar (moved most not-regularly used buttons from mainscreen to there)
- Replaced checkbox buttons by push buttons (I prefer the latter)
- Wait 5 seconds before exiting gui (if checked) to make transition to gngeo itself more fluid

It's great to see you are still working on it.

By the way, I've just tried to play some games with an external usb joystick (connected through HEN) but I' don't really know how to configure it with the button-config screen. Would it be possible to support joystick as an alternate control input?

I do know from this thread that PS3 controllers can be configured easily.

Gngeo has options to enable joystick support (/dev/js0), but I doubt if that works out of the box with hen-usb. As I must have an usb joystick/pad somewhere in a drawer, I could do some tests. Will let you know my findings it I get some time for that.

Edit: the joystick is recognized and can be used. Did not expect that... Easily configuring the joystick by pressing their buttons will be a bit of a challenge, but setting the right number values is not that hard. Weird thing is that my phone reboots everytime I disconnect the joystick (I do stop usb host mode first  )

Edit2: every unload of hen-usb mode makes my phone reboot right now. Don't know if its related to the kernel, but I never had this issue.

Edit3: reboots solved. Had to to with confilicting battery modules.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Hi Ade, I don't have any problems connecting and disconnecting my USB joystick. It's an arcade stick so it's perfect for this kind of emulators when connecting the N900 to a TV.

The PS3 controller is easy to configure as it simulates keypresses. This is the general problem with joysticks, as most of the emulators (DrNOKSnes, Picodrive, etc) don't support them (at least through UI).

I think that a good option to use a joystick in almost every game or emulator would be to have a port of QJoyPad or anything similar.

Welcome back gleydsonpr!

I guess you have to see what (system) updates are available for yourself and if it is PR 1.3...

Gngeo-gui has been developed further as you will see once you install it again :)

As we speak I am trying to add USB joystick config support by pressing the buttons on the joystick itself. Still experience some problems with that I cannot put my finger on at the moment.
