whats the matter with all of you. The only thing nuknuk has done is share what he has been told. It is really not his fault that the sales people told him the wrong thing consistently to the point that it was believable. If you dont want to hear rumors and speculation, and potentially bad info, dont read these threads, stick to just press releases.

But he keeps on giving out wrong info. He is passing on info as though he has insde knowledge but in fact it is totally wrong

Yes, and would also be very foolish on Nokia's part. There is already a perception (right or wrong) that the product has been delayed and very little communication of the status was available. Then Nokia announce the N900 has shipped. Too many delay variables with boat bulk container deliveries (plus they are known to fall off boats every now and then  )

Surely Nokia is not clueless and their marketing would have better sense to not ship by boat. Heck, we used to ship printers by air from Taiwan in order to make up for delays and avoid sell-in partners from getting ticked.

Then again, Nokia did say "Sometime in November", so they are keeping to their word in a rather obtuse manner.

I do not remember this kind of delay with the N-Gage ;)

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Well, just got this email from expansys (i emailed the .ro version):

Dear XXXXX,

We are selling N900 with Pan-European warranty and UK QWERTY keyboards. We
don't have delivery time for this product as unfortunately last week Nokia
and Vodafone UK signed exclusivity partnership and therefore all UK
deliveries even with EU specs has been postponed. At the moment we are
trying to source the stock from Non-UK suppliers.

Best regards

eXpansys

Not sure if that's true or not ... but seems reasonable.

This +1

Other people are doing the same, but they are also posting copies of chat or email that they have received. All the information we have is probably not worth much at the moment, but at least we are not posting bland statements and presenting them as gospel

If nuknuk has been told the 19th, then post the chat or mail saying that, or say that it was via a converstion with a nokia rep otherwise it is just spam..

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

I know very little about shipping therefore any ignorance I apologise.

If Nokia shipped by road to maximise profits would it not be reasonable to assume that it wouldn't be in the UK/at retailers by now? At best it would be here today no?

I'm quietly confident it'll be with me this week.

Jidi 2009-11-16 14:38

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Considering the email I got from expansys that is listed in my previous post, I just took a look at MPD website:

http://www.nokiaretail.co.uk/Brands/...489/p26078.htm

and indeed, the only way the phone can be ordered is via a Vodafone offer, so the version that Vodafone closed a contract with Nokia on this phone and this causing the delays might be true ...

Well again not an official figure but the one I have in my head from reading things here is that they're shipping something in the region of 3 million units.

Personally I don't have a problem with either the development delay or the shipping one. What I do have a problem with is twitter, this forum and the internet in general is full of people asking where can they buy the N900 and when can they buy it. It completely dominates the discourse of the product and Nokia have no answer for it. That's poor release planning and poor marketing but Nokia does it every single time.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

@nuknuk ok, I emailed Nokia Poland :) Here is what they replyed (translated to English):

"We kindly inform that we do not have information when parcel will be sent to you because parcels are sent directly from warehouse in order determined by order date. However, first N900 devices will be sent in week 48, the last week of November".

I preorder in mid October.

It might be cheap. Nokia is known for its ability to make good profits even on cheap phones. They know how to trim everything from the start to the end.

Ummm. Shipping by road from Korea hardly maximizes profits and looking at a map of the world it probably isn't the fastest and easiest route either, 6 days seem rather impossible to me.

Although I have no idea if it only takes 10 to 14 days to ship to the large european harbours (Rotterdam, Hamburg, for example).

For shipping by train you probably already have two days from Korea to Russia.

So if it is supposed to take around two weeks, I guess it's a mixture between ship and plane or plane and road.

As said: Only guessing.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

I just called Nokia as they told me they would have stock today.

They said they were sent an email last Saturday afternoon stating that the delivery is now on hold with no new delivery date.
Could I take your name and call you when we know more.

To be honest this is getting beyond a joke, I broke my phone over a month ago and have been waiting to replace it, stupidly believing all of the dates thrown around by Nokia.

No sun - no moon - no N900!

No morn - no noon - no N900 -

No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day - no N900.

No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease, no N900,

No comfortable feel in any member - no N900 -

No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees, no N900,

No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! - no N900

November! No N900! November!

Check the BBC website out - they did a project called "The Box" - following a shipping container around the world for a year. It's just finished

You can check it's route and how long it took :) - should give some idea :)

Err, if you order direct from Nokia, you can still order sim free, here:

http://shop.nokia.co.uk/nokia-uk/pro...uynow_preorder

Which is seriously odd. If they are only going to sell to new Voda-customers then I am out of here. I am tied into Orange, and when I leave them I won't want voda. I think Nokia would be very very silly to not sell sim-free.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Indeed, you can still preorder from nokia.co.uk. if what expansys said is true, that Nokia closed a contract with Vodafone UK for N900 and all their first shipments will go there it doesn't matter that you can still order from nokia.co.uk.
The change that MPD made is strange IMHO.

I can understand Nokia on this decision, such a contract values a million times more than the couple of thousandths of pre-orders and unsatisfied users. Delaying the shipments by a week or two is not such a big issue for them, considering shares value and what a plus can a contract like that bring.

I think if you take out th stops it's between 12 and 20 days'ish...

Just found something interesting...
Price of the N900 in the UK market.

At time of posting, the lowest is at £411 without any discounts and/or cashback involved.

Surely know one in their right mind would suspect that the warehouse would send preorder units to a retail store.

To be sent out via royal mail

Surely?

FYI conversation with Handtec UK

Quote:

Customer Services (815): Hi there, how may I assist you today?
Venomrush: Hi
Venomrush: Do you still do price matching for your products?
Customer Services (815): we can do
Venomrush: Are there any specific terms?
Customer Services (815): which product is it sir - and which shop
Customer Services (815): yes needs to be in stock same terms as us etc
Venomrush: Product is the Nokia N900, still in pre-order status similar to yours.
Venomrush: Current price including VAT is 411.73 with free delivery.
Customer Services (815): which store sir
Venomrush: Oyyy
Venomrush: Direct link - http://www.oyyy.co.uk/product.php/10...0-mobile-phone
Customer Services (815): I think we can - however only once we receive stock sir
Venomrush: When are you expecting to receive stock?
Customer Services (815): towrads the last week in November - same with all retailers
Venomrush: Some retailers are telling me they are receiving stock this week and will be able to ship the device to me this week, that I would expect to receive by the end of the week.
Venomrush: I don't quite understand.
Venomrush: Do I trust them or you?
Customer Services (815): ok it may be speculation - however we should be one of the first
Customer Services (815): I would wait til either we or them have physical stock
Venomrush: It seems there is a great interest for this product
Customer Services (815): yes we have preorders
Venomrush: If I place an order with you now,
Venomrush: Would I receive the same price as the other retailer?
Venomrush: Or is that something not possible at the moment until both have the device in stock?
Customer Services (815): yes - only possible once we have stock
Venomrush: How about, placing the order now and provide a refund on the differences?
Customer Services (815): yes - we can do this - however only if they have the stock at the time
Venomrush: Will I receive the device at the same time as the person on top of the pre-order list?
Customer Services (815): I would think so - we would be getting a large allocation in
Venomrush: The stocks I'm not worried about.
Venomrush: I'm worried about the handling.
Venomrush: Say if you have 1000 pre-oders, can you fulfill them in a day?
Venomrush: May I dare say all pre-orders in a day?
Customer Services (815): yes
Customer Services (815): Handtec is probably the largest in-dependant dealer in the UK
Venomrush: Ok thanks
Venomrush: What is your delivery charges?
Venomrush: And what method of delivery are you using?
Customer Services (815): for UK this would be courier - Citylink
Venomrush: Is this free delivery?
Customer Services (815): no - but can match as above
Venomrush: Thanks

That would be unfortunate if they think that. If this a product which, by all accounts, is targeted at this community, Nokia would be better served by understanding the displeasure with the way the rollout is being conducted.
