It could. As we have more settings in gconf than is visible in the UI (obviously). A good example are logging settings :-)

That is, I would like to choose from which folder to get the calendar, contacts, notes, and tasks. Outlook allows to have multiple of those.
This is not something which can be changed in mfefolders.

No. Could you raise a bug against MfE and attach logs with the scenario?

The procedure to take the logs is described here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_for_Excha...g_ON_or_OFF.3F

Thank you in advance.

Nice to hear. Exchange 2003? But GAL most probably does not work because of this: http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_For_Excha...d_FAQ#PR_1.1_3 Sorry.

Thanks for the response, Vitaly.

That's a shame. Maybe I'll try and experiment with using PC/Ovi Suite to sync just the notes from my Outlook.

Thank you again for your support to the community! Your presence here removes a lot of frustration.

Hello to all,

also Im a user of Mail for exchange.
I have here a very strange issue.
I can configure everything and also sync seems to work.
But I can not send Mails.
Also sometimes I get the message that Mail for Exchange does not react check Credentials.
I see in the Settings of the Mail for Exchange Server that the Device is recognised and also made sucessfully synchronisation yesterday.
Its not this needed that I get it running, but I would like too so I can use the N900 when im not really working (at the moment working with E71 where everything works perfect.

to install syslog, you have to have rootsh installed, then type this into an xterminal:
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install sysklogd klogd

this command is not that important, it's just intended to "reset" the logfile to an empty state.

you can do this instead:
Code:

echo "" > /var/log/syslog

So when I chceck no in /var/log/ i find 3 files: pycentral.log; softupd.log and syslog without extension.

if you have done the gconftool-2 commands according to the wiki, you should have the log entries in /var/log/syslog after synchronization.

running
Code:

grep activesync /var/log/syslog
will show you the relevant entries - please post the output of that command here.

(that's all in the wiki, btw...)

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

Hmm, I tried to figure out what the differences are between my E71 syncing with my Scalix Groupware Server and the way the N900 tries to.
What I noticed right away is that it seems that the first http-request is somewhat different as I can tell from my server's logs:

(All IMEIs substituted for illustrational purposes)

E71:
2010-01-19 14:05:17,974 INFO [WirelessServlet.doPost:103] SERVLET - deviceId: IMEI12345, user: XX - HTTP post Request received: /wirelessUser=XX&DeviceId=IMEI12345&DeviceType=IMEI12345&Cmd=Sy nc
2010-01-19 14:05:54,099 INFO [SyncCommand.doSync:194] COMMAND - deviceId: IMEI12345, user: XX - executing content sync on folder: Kalender

N900:
2010-01-19 14:19:05,822 INFO [WirelessServlet.doPost:103] SERVLET - deviceId: 54321 - HTTP post Request received: /wirelessCmd=Sync&DeviceId=54321&DeviceType=SmartPh one
2010-01-19 14:19:05,825 INFO [SyncCommand.doSync:194] COMMAND - deviceId: 54321 - executing content sync on folder: Kalender

Where's the variable telling the server what user account the N900 tries to sync with? Is it in later EAS versions that the information on DeviceID vs. user account is stored on the server side?

--edit--

BTW that's the way my colleagues iPhone syncs (flawlessly):
iPhone:
2010-01-19 14:38:00,813 INFO [WirelessServlet.doPost:103] SERVLET - deviceId: Appl12345NR, user: YY - HTTP post Request received: /wirelessUser=YY&DeviceId=Appl12345NR&DeviceType=iPhone&Cmd=Syn c
2010-01-19 14:38:00,880 INFO [SyncCommand.doSync:194] COMMAND - deviceId: Appl12345NR, user: YY - executing content sync on folder: Calendar

E71 & iPhone pretty much show the same logs. The N900 is missing the user-field...

No sender/subject details - is that the intention or am I missing something?

Hm. Another idea. Does any of the messages (out of 5) have empty subject?

Could you attach your logs to this bug if it is about the same issue (looks like it is)? We have analyzed the logs you have shown. We need "extended" logs to say something.

The way to collect extended logs:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_for_Excha...tended_logging

Before attaching the logs, check that they do not contain any data which you treat as personal/confidential etc.

I am the Network Engineer at my workplace and have access to the Exchange Server (2007). I enabled the Allow non-provisionable devices setting but still keep getting the "Exchange account disabled .Access refused" error message.

The exchange 2007 is using self-signed certificates and does not have SSL.

Also on the N900, it has the latest update on it.

If it does not use SSL, then use HTTP, not HTTPS. But it looks like you have misspelled somewhere. Self-signed certificate is mentioned and in the same time you told that Exchange does not use SSL. Sounds strange...

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

Here is a log file for N900 attempting to sync to a Kerio 6.7.3 Patch 1 server for the first time and receiving the "Error communicating with Exchange server".

SSL is working at least as confirmed by Modest successfully connecting to server via IMAP.
I've changed username to MyUserName.
There was also a shortened, three letter, version of my user name. That also was replaced with MyUserName.
Any reference to my server has been replaced with example.com.

Grep'd on term error and found: 5, 6, (3, 901)

Saw that DeviceType=SmartPhone on one of the lines and this matches to what I see in the Kerio admin interface. Would be nice if it read N900 or Maemo 5, as the other devices state their proper name such as iPhone, Nokia5800XpressMusic, iPod, etc.

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

I also noticed in the log that version seemed strange. My phone is patched to version 2.2009.51-1.002 as shown in the About screen. However in the log I see "Nokia-N900-42-11". Are these version numbers correct?

I'm guessing Nokia-N900-42-11 refers specifically to version of MfE?

This probably refers to the hostname of the device. This is not updated by the firmware update, so remains at the default. You can change this by (as root) editing /etc/hostname and rebooting.

Looks like wildcard certificates do work okay. The problem is that MfE is not following the certificate chain (which the server makes available). I have to extract & load the immediate parent CA certificate in order for MfE to work.

Not sure if it makes a difference but I made a typo when setting up the log levels. I typed:

gconftool-2 -s --type=int /apps/activesync/AsStatus/Syslog/MinLogLevel 0

instead of:
gconftool-2 -s --type=int /apps/activesync/AsStatusApplet/Syslog/MinLogLevel 0

So I am uploading another log file.

I believe you are correct as I see that is the contents of /etc/hostname and syslogd typically places the hostname into the log line.

Re: Mail for Exchange (MfE). Blame me here, pls

Thanx to Vitaly & the dev team I now managed to sync my N900 with my Scalix Groupware Server via Active Sync like a charm.

The reason for not being able to sync is obviously a misbehaviour either on the Scalix side (EAS 12.0/12.1 not being fully implemented) or on the MfE side. No matter which side actually causes the problem, Vitaly came up with a simple workaround to fix it!

I forced the N900 to only use EAS 2.5 no matter what the initial sync negotiation would come up with. If Vitaly agrees I would post a short howto here on the forum.

THX Vitaly. You made my day! Go have a beer on my tap tonite!
