  • Sorry for the duplicate thread, and thanks to Reggie for merging it here
  • Thanks also to Reggie for tolerating discussion of the leaked firmware on a Nokia-sponsored community (he and I exchanged a few PM's and are in agreement on handling this topic
  • The leaked PR1.2 introduced errors on my device, so I've reverted to PR1.1.1

Specific errors were: Contact information synced via Exchange Server did not persist across device reboots or network switches (i.e. going from WiFi to 3G or vice-versa). In 3 days, I had to reset the Exchange Server sync settings 2 dozen times, regardless of whether I used Google's sync feature or NuevaSync's.

Also, upon every reboot, a warning notice appeared indicating "An internal error has occurred; can not proceed" (paraphrased).

With 1400+ contacts, unstable retention of them was a deal-breaker.

I reflashed easily back to PR1.1.1 via the standard method, encountered the expected 'unrecognized SIM' error, and overcame that with the published method. Then I restored everything else from my latest Backup

After this little glimpse of the future (or at least the PR1.2-future), I'm happily back in PR1.1.1-ville.

Props to the community for developing all the resources that enabled me to take this little adventure. You all rock (except Abill_UK when he's cranky...;-))

HA HA HA love the comment but your feedback regarding leaked fw is more important obviously and just adds to the greater knowledge of this leaked fw.
The reason i go off on one sometimes i can tell you, on this forum you got a bunch of guys who are just plain nasty and when they start they gang up on people, this i have noticed not just at me by reading the posts of these people.
The biggest problem on what is generally a fantastic first of its kind forum (much credit to Reggie here for that) is the moderating techniques used and some are very blatently ignored and actually allow some of the offenders on this community to just carry on regardless.
I have been doing a bit of thinking regarding this and i may have come up with a good solution but i first have to pass it through Reggie on his thoughts (lets see what happens), if i am successful then i know for sure it will stop these people from being very nasty and allowed by 2 moderators in particular to get away with their nasty antics.
Reggie i must say IS a very good moderator and a perfect example of a no nonsence approach in general on this forum (ok he is the admin but thats beside the point) and DOES apply good technique but i am afraid to say that he is being let down by some of his colleages.
Anyhow please forgive me if i come across "cranky" sometimes but actually i am just a normal human being that has indeed had a bit of a rough time from some very nasty know it all people on here but i can assure you i am indeed human with a great sense of humor usually, i for sure 100% can give as good if not far better than i get but i choose to keep my feelings to myself most of the time as it is only too easy to let loose and that would make me as bad as them..
Anyhow thanks for the comments on the fw it was indeed interesting reading thats why i thanked you.

lol. I just realised today that I can rearrange the icons in the launcher menu.

Just hold down the icon to activate the update mode.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Someone posted an inquiry about extras devel not working and the thread was immediately closed. I don't understand that. Here is my reply.

I have this problem also. I think that we are being redirected to a directory that won't exist till the real PR1.2 is released? Something like that. Clues can be found in the App Mgr log.

I'm not too worried about it now. Maybe someone will come up with a workaround.

I am talking about EAP-TTLS + PAP.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

i am using my device with the leaked PR 1.2 and everything is working fine.

though 2 apps/widget stopped working; namely "personal data monitor" and "conversations" widget.

the "virtual keyboard" sometimes annoys me (maybe due to being used on the old one)

the menu icons are fully customizable.

overclocking still works, BUT!!! be warned! the only way I see to revert back to the stock kernel is a re-flash!

even @ 600mhz, scrolling is smoother even after days and weeks.

there is a way to re-enable non working repos in the leaked version IMHO. what i did:

-no apps were installed (or my apps are not yet re-installed
-disable extras, extras-testing and devel

-update (install updates if there is any)
-"restore apps"

-enable "Extras" repo then update (install updates if any)
-tap "restore apps"

-enable "Extras-Testing" then update (install updates if any)
-then "restore apps"

-same goes to devel, update then restore apps

i have successfully re-install my apps from PR1.1 at the leaked PR1.2.

-there is now the e-mail widget.

All I did was flash the leaked PR1.2 and load my PR1.1 backup. All my settings and repos were loaded. No problems yet and I flashed it the same day of the leak.

There's a fix for screen calibration in the overclocking kernel? Where is it mentioned?

After flashing 1.2rc, adding "Extra protocols" and setting my ICQ account up, there are my contacts correctly in the Contacts app - but when I click "New IM message" in Conversations, it says "No contacts" ... anyone knows how to fix that? After reverting to 1.1, contacts are displayed all right ...

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Some very interesting information regarding this leaked fw that i would like to pass on.
I can report that the leaked fw has worked better than i expected mainly to free up rootfs @142mb (prior was 45mb), and cpu usage is always idling at around 3% (i never overclocked) and the obvious now well tested improvements overall (thanks to people on this forum).
Incidently i only flashed the fw not the emms and all my apps updated straight away with no problems whatsoever apart from 2 desktop icons that were not connected to any app which i simply deleted. I lost no contacts at all or any music or any pics as my memory card remained intact (i did do a backup prior to flash, never needed to use backup).
All of my apps still work and many far better than before.
I can confirm i have actually never turned off my N900 since flashing the leaked fw and have used my N900 to connect to the internet 24/7 (3g dialup apart from a few re-starts) and that i was one of the first 6 people to flash on this forum i believe.
I would say a much better improvement all round than the old fw.
All in all i would reccomend the leaked fw but looking at comments etc it is obvious the next official update may well come before end of May so probably not worth using the leaked fw now if you are in any way doubtfull.

I also can confirm from a source within Nokia that the only reason people have had problems with this leaked fw is because they never cleaned out the old os properly during flash (his words not mine) and that it would never brick your N900 unless you never started with a clean install.
Also the coming update will not be any problems at all to install whatsoever for anyone who has indeed flashed the leaked fw, either by NSU OTA or whatever means you wish to update and it will NOT be necessary to downgrade to the previous fw! and that the new update will in fact completly re-write the os with no need for emms flash (please make a backup before updating).
PS i will NOT give out my contact so please dont ask.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Something about video recording.

Prior to using the leaked firmware, a usual 90 Minute video recording would be about 1.61GB.

I recorded a 90 Minute video last night in the new Fine video setting (presumably 640x480 30FPS) and it finished at a WHOPPING 2.40GB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

Thats a 2.40 GIG VIDEO!!!!!!

I will check on Sunday to see what size video is recorded with the default N900 video resolution and report back.

That is a lot of memory usage.

Okay this thread has come to 944 posts before my 945th post, so its futile to read through all of them to get a question. (maybe a wiki page would be due?)

Never the less, my question:
Im running PR1.2 with the undervolted kernel, and my battery capacity has been halved with the same settings in the newest officially released firmware with the undervolted kernel. Also it becomes hot sometimes...

Is this a known problem? Anyone know whats up?

This is an all round "bug" and i dont think is a bug because if you touch anything for a fraction of a second it does not register but if you touch and hold it works every time... try it and see ok.

The reports i have seen seem to rely on connection speed to get Skype to work, its a mixed bag of reports but it is working for 3g connect speeds but not for anyhing lower i believe.

I finally gave in yesterday. Reverted to stock kernel and installed the 1.2RC on one of our phones.

Subtle changes to the phone that make me happy. Thereīll be quite a disappointment amongst many who participated in the humongous "Dave999īs original legendary waiting for godot....with Chuck Norris" PR1.2 thread. Unless something awesome is not included in this RC, but will be in the final release, this will be a very disappointing release after all the time Nokia has spent doodling with it.

But the RC is working very stable for me. My conversations IM contacts show up fine. Tried Skype video yesterday, over wifi, but couldnīt get it to work properly. My image was seen but I didnīt get a video from the counterparty.

Hopefully thatīll be resolved before the final release.

Processor seems to run more at 4-5% idle now than 2-3%, Iīll have to wait a little longer to get a feel for the actual battery life comparison.

My rootfs usage went from 167-170mb to 121-129mb after flashing and installing all my programs. Thatīs definitely positive. Perhaps thatīs also part of the reason the processor reports running at higher load, as the device is swapping more information back and forth.

1.2 is definitely a step forward, but not a huge leap.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Since flashing the leaked firmware, I have been having an interesting problem.

I have mplayer installed. However, anytime I use the app manager to update/remove/install software, mplayer gets uninstalled. I then have to re-install it.

Don't know if it makes a difference, but Canola2 was installed after flashing and re-installing from a backup (Never had installed it before).

Anyone else seeing anything similar?

geneven 2010-05-17 13:07

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

That's weird, I haven't had any mplayer problems. I don't have Canola2 installed.

lemmyslender 2010-05-17 15:37

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Just checked my backup prior to installing 1.2L. Canola2 was not listed in the backup.

However, Canola2 was definitely installed after flashing and restoring my backup. I played with it for a little bit, and ended up un-installing it.

I thought I had narrowed down mplayer going missing after using the app manager. That may not be the case. I've done a little playing installed an app, and it hasn't gone missing yet. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

the past few days I have been on a busy trip for work , and we work actually too occupied to care about the firmware on our phones.
PR 1.2 RC didn't let me down.
Took a few skype vid calls on my N900 over wifi and even guided my wife on the other side around at the breakfast bufet to prove I was being fed.
Happy and just wanted to let you know Skype video call works ok but not always perfectly. It seems to depend on the software version of the client at the other side too if it will initiate correctly or not.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

Ive heard the screen v-synch issues of before (lack of!) and jerky video recording have been known to be fixed in 1.2 - is this true?

Im still not sure what to believe- not that an early firmware release wouldnt have its problems anyway, but there are plenty of users out there stating that the majority of 1.2 leaks out there have actually been tampered with by third parties, resulting in alot of problems. I think its the torrent releases to avoid http://www.softsailor.com/news/25602...ent-sites.html

i think im going to just wait for the official version (available via the phones online option) to be released.. if it ever happens, lol. Ive read posts from just about every month (from the past 4 months now) stating that itll be officially released "any time now"..... so heres hoping itll b before xmas! ;) I initially found most of my 1.2 info on how well it performs via youtube... a good source for actual proof/differences on performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORtHQ...eature=related
