One silly question... typical IT reply, but it wasn't asked:

Have you uninstalled/reinstalled fMMS? Maybe something else you did clobbered the settings in some way? Can't hurt to try...

Also, if you're getting MMS notices (pushes) but can't download, that sounds more like a settings issue. It could be your provider changed the name/IP of the MMS gateway. Most devices with full MMS support can get those changes via a push to the device (often via a sim push/update). The N900 lacks both native MMS support and sim tools. Check their web site and make sure your MMS gateway settings are correct still. (And if they're not please update the wiki and reply here once you've fixed it. :) )

Edit:
One other thought, If you have a separate advertiser (like knuthf mentioned) it may be the MMS settings for that service are different than the one for your main provider. That would suck, but would explain if you can get some MMS but not all of them.

Hi woody, the problem is that untill some months ago all was working well, sendimg MMS and receiving...
no I can only receive, download and see the advertising ones... when my wife or friends send me a MMS sometimese I receive the advise, sometimes not... if I go in fMMS and try to download I receive and error...

I unistalled and reinstalled it several times, also after a reflash...
the setting are correct...

I'm having problems with fMMS. I have few unread messages, but when I open fMMS, it freezes to the splash screen. The terminal gives

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I've just tried to copy from a (smoothly) received MMS, and then paste to another application. Specifically, the MMS contained some text followed by a URL in a new line. I opened the MMS and selected Copy from the menu, and then pasted to the address bar in the web browser. Only the text was copied, but not the URL (note again the URL is in a new line, if it matters).

Can't you click on the URL to open it in a browser directly?

Can't say I have ever sent or received URL's via MMS.

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

No, the URL is not clickable. Again, I don't know if it's not copied/pasted because it's an URL or because it's in a new line.

Heureka! :)

Finally found the fix for fMMS not receiving /notifying/showing received MMS.

I got a two-line MMS now. It had no URL in the message. I tried to copy/paste and again it only pasted the first line. So it's a new line issue.

Hey peterleinchen,
Have you seen bug 12733?
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12733

The reporter attached a patch which makes the same change as your fix plus more. Maybe you could check it out if you get time?

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I have recently changed operators, on my previous mobile service and the current one I have always gotten the same error on sending MMS, thought I did just receive sucessfully my first MMS, it was a vcard. I have images set to small and I couldn't even forward that vcard which is a tiny file, FWIW I have gone through the wiki several times over the last few years as well as several other hits across the web for this error.
error below for any MMS send:
Code:

Operation failed
MMSC: 200_OK
Body: {}

I can quickly load the mmsc address with my microb browser to a blank page and the MMS internet connection connects properly, what setting am I missing?
(edit)
I tore apart the messages in and out in /home/user/.fmms and noticed you can send a bit of text...
I tried adding a bit of text message and Presto! it works.

No, I have not seen it. Thanks for pointing me.
This bug report was made later than my fix was posted here. And it was only assigned to frals, even I am now also maintainer?

The patch looks good. But I need to check details and for sure going to contact the author (anyone knows his tmo account?).

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Where is the best place to post bug reports? Here or the Maemo bug tracker?

Basically, I don't send many MMSes, but the last couple I've sent have consistently refused to attach images. They're in the sent MMS on my N900, but the recipient isn't getting them. These have been since I upgraded fMMS recently, if that affects anything.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

peterleinchen 2014-07-14 18:46

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Nothing has been changed regarding sending. Just a little patch when receiving MMS in protocol version 1.1.
So: first step to check would be /tmp/fmms.log (without rebooting after sending).

About best place I do not know, I am also maintainer of fmms (even I am just beginner, as no one else did) but I won't get any notifications.
So probably bugs.maemo.org AND note here?

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

peterleinchen, I got a faulty mms from Nokia Lumia (I wrote a few posts earlier about something wrong with encoding - I see "<smil>..." garbage after mms textual content), which file should I send to you for debugging? ~/.fmms/mms/.../message ?

peterleinchen 2014-07-14 20:17

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Nokia Lumia? no support ;)

Looks like we are mixing threads now a bit. Already said to send over that. So yes.

But I got one message from a BB device this weekend. And it looks like those smil information is just xml packed info how to display the MMS (ya know like show pic full screen for 5 seconds and then the text). It does not look like frals coded such thing, so the xml.file just holds the information. This is no bug, as my message was decoded correctly (so yours seem to be).

Sorry for mixing up threads... Either way, I suppose this one is better, as the other one is about being unable to receive MMSes at all. PM sent. Yeah, I know it looks like an xml definition of slideshow... But some phones (like those smartass Lumias) send only this type of MMSes. Maybe it should be handled somehow? I don't know, maybe just ignore this xml stuff? :P (the text portion of the message is displayed in front of it anyway, and xml can be viewed by "Save attachments" menu option if someone really wants to view it).

You need to add yourself to CC list on bugtracker for every manually, it seems that automatic including of maintainers no longer works (surprise, surprise...). Alternatively, everyone posting a bug, or even comment about a bug, can manually specify your mail as additional CC.

No more details, as bugs.maemo.org no longer works for me, in any browser, due to some certificate issues (the kind of issue that doesn't allow to click "FU, I want to go there anyway") - I haven't had time to investigate it (neither I'm sure that every user brute-forcing entry is a way to go for BMO).

Thanks, dude. I've found that sending via the utility works fine, but sending via the service does not. In the log the first is a successful send via the utility, and the second is an unsuccessful one via the service:

utility/service?
I do not see the difference in the log? Both messages seem to be sent fine and accepted by MMS service.

mr_jrt 2014-07-17 01:02

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I got that impression from the log as well, but the recipient did not receive the image (just the text). I wonder perhaps if my provider doesn't like the non-jpg extension now for some reason and strips it out? ...that's the only difference I can see from the log.

peterleinchen 2014-07-19 21:07

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

service?!!
Now I see. I never ever used that functionality, despite of having heard such thing exists.

And tried it out. With a PNG, and it worked. Sent it to myself.
What kind of attachment did you try? Would you mind / try sending the same to yourself?
Most the probable the recipients device did not know how to handle, see some log from my action:

They were both photos taken on the phone itself, so jpegs. The MMSes appear in my sent list fine, but no images are being received for 3 recipients. Could be my MMS provider disliking the filenames, or could be theirs?

This you should ask your (or their) provider(s).

Sent this message to your self and show us the log. Maybe this reveals a bit more.
Best clean up log by
echo "" > /tmp/fmms.log
(or reboot)

While BMO certificate is not fixed, you can ( for FF) go to about:config and change "security.OCSP.enabled" to 0 when you want to open BMO. Don't forget to change it back to 1 when you're finished with BMO ;)

Different way via GUI, same effect :D

pichlo 2014-07-20 21:06

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

The "about:config" method has the advantage that it also works in Microb :)

Changing options is a bit fiddly. I've found that the trick is the "swipe from beyond the left edge" gesture to switch the cursor mode, then double-tap on the value you want to update. That will bring up the change value dialog. Normal double-tap without the cursor mode switch would just readjust the screen size.

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Question. I installed fMMS purely out of curiosity but never managed to get it to work. No big deal, as in the about 20 years I have owned and used about 20 different phones, dumb and smart, I have never ever felt the need to send or receive a single MMS. So I went as far as checking the connection settings but not as far as calling my provider's tech support.

Now my problem is that installing fMMS created a new entry, "MMS", in my "Internet Connections" and uninstalling fMMS did not remove it. Nor can I remove it manually in System -> Internet Connections. How do I get rid of it?

Are you completely certain that it is a new entry? When I signed up with T-Mobile, I ended up immediately getting an "MMS" internet connection alongside the standard one, and never could figure out how to get rid of it. (I'm pretty sure I never installed fMMS either.)

Yep!
Another nice package from frals.

Or:
just edit gconf settings (need to find the key myself, but not too hard ;))

@pichlo
I also do not have any need for MMS, but those 2-3 complaints a year 'why you did not answer?'/'have you seen the pic?' made me desperately fixing fMMS :)
Do you want some support? (there is also nice wiki about fMMS and settings)

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Hi guys. I've been using fMMS successfully now for months, but something strange has started to happen (sure it's a bug) when I want to send or forward an MMS.
If I choose contacts from my phone book that contain "too many" fields (not sure on limits) or have social media fields like Facebook, fMMS will only display the top part of the contact showing the name of my contact and nothing else. I cannot go further from here and cannot select their mobile number as the field to use.
The only way around this is to choose contacts that purely have a mobile phone number and nothing else in their contact profile, and then I can select their mobile and proceed sending my MMS.
Can this be fixed please somehow?

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I am having a strange issue with fmms recently

I can recieve all mms messages (from all providers), I can send mms to tmobile (US) users and they are recieved. Anytime I try and send an mms to ATT, Verison, etc (anything other than Tmobile); fmms SAYS it is sent, but the user never recieves it.

I am using wap.voicestream.com but have also tried epc.tmobile.com

Ideas?

I double checked my settings

Currently using
wap.voicestream.com (in the fmms settings... the apn for internet is left blank but I have tried both epc.tmobile.com and wap.voicestream.com) with no luck

http proxy: shows as 216.155.165.50, the config settings wiki says 216.155.165.050 but everytime fmms cuts out that 0

port is 8080

The settings seem correct. Something like:
APN: wap.voicestream.com
[Edit] epc.tmobile.com or fast.t-mobile.com (for LTE devices) [/Edit]
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
[Edit] Not set [/Edit]
MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
[Edit] Unknown [/Edit]
MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf
[Edit] Unknown [/Edit]

Also, check MMS max message size: 1048576 for the mms?

Do you need to switch on cellular data and data roaming?

Also, try sending MMS to your own phone number, and see if it changes anything (unlikely, since you already can send MMS to T-mobile phone numbers)?

Also, see T-Mobile Support: 1979, 2090.

Best wishes.

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Quick message
I had similar problems with my operator (Orange UK). All settings looked correct but fMMS did not work. Then I took the SIM card out and moved it to my old phone and MMS did not work there either. So I guess the problem was with my operstor but, since I have never needed MMS in my life, I did not investigate further and happily got rid of fMMS - which I installed in the first place only out of curiosity anyway.

The moral of the story? Check with your provider!

Swordfish II 2014-12-30 02:21

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I reverted to an old backup that fmms worked on... Still have the same problem. Sending to myself works, sending to other tmobile users works... Sending to any other provider fmms says it is sent but the user never recieves it.

So frustrating
