I just wonder, if it's possible mechanically - after full-press, a half-press state isn't recognized exactly the same way as half-press from no-press state?

/Estel

Yes it is possible, a simple way to prove it:

Use auto-focus: the rectangle will become green or red, take the photo, if you hold the button half-pressed: it is still the same color, which mean camera-ui still detect the button as half-pressed. When you release it, it will return white.

cameraUI2 is NOT included in the "Stable" flavor, yet.

Anybody know when the CSSU-stable will get the CamerUI2? Or how I can install it manually? :p

Thanks for the suggestion but I am using my N900 as my daily phone and need something stable. Just that I could afford the fact that the camera could f**k up, but do need the rest of the phone to run as proper.

Is there is site managing the deb files for CSSU that I can go to and try to download the camera deb installed?

Don't be afraid of labels.

"Stable" ... "Testing"... are just "labels".

AFAIK "testing" is solid stable. Plus, if you want the camera-ui2 , your only option is to install CSSU-Testing.

As you know in "Stable" you get the old UI (for now).

But even if something wrong happens with Testing in your device ---> flash it using the Maemo flasher. The guide is super-simple. Very user friendly.
The flashing procedure is 15' tops.

As long as you keep backup of your stuff, there's nothing to fear.

freemangordon is here.

@HELLASISGREECE:

Thanks for the encouragement... I have two N900 units, one is on stable and another is on testing... so there is no real emergency on my part. I just asked to see if it was possible, but no real loss. :)

LOL!

I'd already be happy if I didn't have to wait 10+ seconds before being able to take a picture, and then miss the frame because of the huge shutter lag.

Did you try setting it (0 sec.) so you do not get the picture shown after you take it ?:p

I don't see what that would change to the time wasted *before* the shot...

10+ seconds before taking picture? Why so? do You mean opening camera program, or some lag with camera module?

petur 2012-09-17 10:48

Re: camera-ui2 (now a part of CSSU) (updated 09. May)

It was some time since I checked the exact time it takes, have reflashed since and so I tried again.

With the n900 screen off, but not locked, slide open the camera door.
Screen goes on and shows camera app 'standby' screen. After 7 seconds the image of the camera shows. This is also after not using the camera for more than a day.

If I repeat this a few times, it will eventually go from closed to show picture in 2.5 seconds.

Looks like swap issue. Maybe cssu-thumb one will work better for You, due to decreased memory footprint?

hmmm why didn't I think of that...

Conky says 150MB ram in use and 131MB swap... when camera is active this changes to 147/133 MB

Hi!

I can't get the location option in geotagging to work. GPS coordinates show up just fine, but even though I've checked the location box and I have GPS fix and a working GPRS connection when taking a photo there's still no location information when checking the photo later on. Am I missing something here...?

Re: camera-ui2 (now a part of CSSU) (updated 09. May)

In this post, config file used to modify location for saving photos/videos is mentioned:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=417698&postcount=2

Hoever, modyfing this file doesn't have any effect on CSSU'ish camera-ui. Nicolai, how to change photos/videos saving location (to arbitrary one, not only between microSd and eMMC) using Your version of camera application?

Thanks in advance,

/Estel

Corrupted tracker database?
try to rebuild the tracker database:
tracker-processes -r

@solbrit
You are right, location retrievel doesn't work anymore.
GPS values are there but no location (land/city/street)
information. I'll check this.

@Estel
camera-ui does not use the xdg user-dirs
settings. But there is no real reason for not doing this.
I'll check this.

Even stock camera-ui can not retrieve geo location anymore.
The same for calling the dbus-command:
dbus-send --print-reply --type=method_call --dest=com.nokia.Navigation.NokiaMapsProvider /Provider com.nokia.Navigation.MapProvider.LocationToAddress es double:<latitude> double:<longitude> boolean:true

Anyone got geotagging with location information working?
With stock-cameraui and/ or non-CSSU?

Just out of curiosity - how process of including it in cssu-testing works, i.e. can we expect those fixes (already committed) to be included in next update of CSSU, or it is more complicated?

Hi everybody,

I currently use the lastest CSSU with camera-ui2, but I would like to use the stock camera application, how can I get it ?
I've tried "apt-get install --reinstall camera-ui=1.1.29.1+0m5", but "mp-fremantle-community-pr" need to be removed for doing that (it is the CSSU package, isn't it ?).

Thank in advance,
Astaoth

Just reinstalled stock-cameraui and geotagging seems to be working okay displaying correct location info. Got cssu-thumb. Sort of, since mp-fremantle-community-pr was removed...

cssu-thumb here, geotagging works again. Seems it was something wrong with Nokia severs, not with camera-ui

Re: camera-ui2 (now a part of CSSU) (updated 09. May)

I've found a solution for getting the Nokia application : I downloaded the .deb with the "-d" option of apt-get, and I installed it with dpkg -i. I noticed that with the stock camera application I've also a problem with long video recording, it's not only a bug of camera-ui2.

With this manipulation, it's possible that you can't install the updates. A workaround consist of reinstalling camera-ui2 (apt-get -f install), doing your updates, and finaly, reinstalling the stock application.

it is posible to resize the captured images megapixels , let's say from 5 to 8 ,done via camera software+cpu?

mr_pingu 2013-02-20 08:53

Re: camera-ui2 (now a part of CSSU) (updated 09. May)

NO! Sensor is not bigger than 5MP so you can't make it 8MP, just not possible. You can only make pictures smaller. The number of MP is hardware dependent

Well, actually you can by software interpolating pixels, but this just adds no new information to the photo... :)

We do not know yet, what he wants. So yes, it can be done with the default Photos application. Just resize the image 150% and you'll get a 11 MP image. But yes, you are right, it does not improve the photo... :)

If I remember correctly from my personal experience of using Nokia's Panorama, it does only one-dimensional stitching. And I have never reached more than 270 degrees with it - maybe, because I don't keep axis of rotation steady enough. But yes, it's the closest experience to autostitching I have ever got.
Best wishes.
