Am I among the first 100 backers? I was in the first 50 who chose the 100EUR option, but later upgraded to the 120EUR one for the custom colors. PS: If you can tell who pledged when, then the shipping order could be as follows: 1) signature option and above 2) others by the order of when they pledged (it would of course mean that 100EUR is first in a row) |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
Hm, just thinking: Would it be possible in theory to stack another TOH onto the keyboard part? Image a TOHKBD with SolarTOH on its back :-)
Are the power lanes available on the back of the TOHKBDs PCB? |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
Magnets are ordered, pogo-pins ordered, first batch of toh-casing pcbs arrives tomorrow.
Today 3d printed toh-casings in all colours arrive, will make some/lots pics. If they are all good, I can order all toh-casings and I should have all parts to start manufacturing on those. Still 13 people have not answered the survey. Asked lots of times via Kickstarter, sent emails, pinged some via facebook, but the rest is unreachable - or have 20 other people with the same name and no jolla related posts anywhere. Even got some angry/irritated replies after taking the effort to mail them, but that is just part of the game I guess. Anyway, since I cannot guess their colours and will not order 13 of each colour extra (260 casings for top and bottom), they will be moved to the back of the queue. Today lots of data processing. #fun |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
Dirk, sorry if you are not the right person to ask but I do not know anyone better.
Update #8 has the discount coupon and very terse T&Cs, only mentioning the expiry date and the shipping countries. The update itself has a header saying "For backers only" but that clause is not explicitly present in the couponT&Cs, making it ambiguous whether the coupon is for backers only or the update itself. My question is, can I share the coupon? Is anyone going to cross-check whether it is being used by a backer or a stranger? I am not going to use it myslef and it would be a shame to let it go to waste. |

So, if you do not use it yourself, you can -and seems more than fair to- share it with a friend. Posting you have an unused code everywhere and publishing it is not appreciated however. |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
Sorry, I missed the Kickstarter and now I'm confused whether I can order this from web page. I thought so, but in this thread are questions about colours and whether somebody was in 100 first backer and so on...
So, can I have TOHKBD by ordering from Funkyotherhalf.com...uh oh, it's not there anymore so I missed that boat also, right? Damn...:( |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
Perhaps Dirk could set up a queue at funkyotherhalf.com for late-comers. There you could enter your email, and after the main batches are out, Dirk could send out an email to those interested provided he has enough interest for an extra batch by then? Perhaps even a note at the top of the closed Kickstarter about where to find the sign-up for a possible future batch?

Re: TOHKBD rev2
Following the pretty pics also a more in depth update.
I am happy with the way the TOH-cover framing and PCB came out, I expect production and assembly of this part to go like a breeze. The keyboard part is a lot more complex and trickier. Assembly now is still cumbersome and takes a lot of manual labour, which is a strong indication the design need some work in optimizing. One of the last hurdles to take in the part is the framing around the keypad, it has some room to play and bend downward like this: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/zjv1qq8mduk...2015.20.38.jpg Glue could be an easy way to fix this, but this is absolutely not preferable. Glue will make assembly very sucky, parts need to dry etc and repairability goes down. Screws same story. So, next experiment is to see if I can make a geometrical lock. Sounds very fancy, but just means making some shape that prevents motion in a direction. Currently this looks like this: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/w1dssgrijhe11rt/pcb-fix.JPG https://dl.dropbox.com/s/k4gxes95asm3la1/frame-fix.JPG This way the bottom piece will use no glue or screws and will be able to be assembled and disassembled without any tools. Hope this will work as intended. Updates about this in ~two/three weeks. Also, some minor detail: in the corners around the magnet -where the pcb drops in- there is in about half of the prints some material pile-up that is not removed in the polishing process. Some extra room required to compensate: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/vzwooitb7h7flvo/frame-fix2.JPG |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
Regarding keypads:
"We started to make all molds and samples now." Getting 10 of each layout first -of which some will go to backers that also get a proto/developeredition- then if all is good the rest will be made. |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
Finally finished my administration - gosh that was a fun job - and determined how many TOHKBDs I can sell before risking issues with spares etc.
So, sales are open again! |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
Quick reply...
Color guide is excellent, but what about including keyboard-layout switch into it? I am not sure what "stealth" means, as keypad layout. Apologies if it was already asked before. [Edit] Does 'stealth' mean that no layout is printed, and user is free to either keep chosen layout in memory, or draw it by hand? [/Edit] Random question: would using e-ink display as back-plate of TOHKBD make it bulkier, more fragile, and-or more expensive? And, most importantly, would the phone recognise it as a second display? Yes, sounds funny :-) More relevant question: is the back-light going to be just white, or is its colour choose-able, too? If the latter, then is it possible to choose colour of each LED? Best wishes. Thank you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Per aspera ad astra... |

Are Other Halves stack-able? No, I think? The connectors would be wearing off pretty quickly, I fear... Is e-ink screen Other Half possible at all? As in, would e-ink screen be recognised by OS as second display? I guess I should be asking Jolla if they plan to release a phone where first display is e-ink :p It's just... Backcover for the sake of physical stability, and nothing else, seems to be such a lame use of space... Another idea for electricity-using Other Half: combine TOHKBD with Light-emitting OH. Or would it be too bulky-and-fragile-and-expensive (and not-working), too? Best wishes. Thank you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Per aspera ad astra... |
