N810...on some further searching I understand that gizmo was bought by google...so i logged into the gizmo website and the call in feature says it is not active.

What are your settings? I hadnt changed anything... I made and account using sipphone.com as usual and it no long werks.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

i'm using the standard settings from the gizmo/gvoice thread. check the archive. but it's more likely that something else is your problem if it worked before. have you checked your gizmo credit balance? my remaining credit was cancelled a few weeks ago, without any notification, by gizmo, and i had to buy more. also, gvoice messed around with their mobile website code and made it inoperable with gizmo sip for a while. but my old settings worked with it again after i bought $10 call-out credit from gizmo. btw., apologies to epage for going off topic here!

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I deleted my account from the tablet and re entered it and everything is finr. I've never purchased credit, it works fine without it.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I just noticed that can be "Pushed" with google sync. I believe it uses MS Exchange to do so. Epage, is there anyway you can use this as an option for sms notification. You can have your sms sent to your gmail account, which can then be pushed to the N8XX, 900 with google sync. Just an idea, I set it up on my nephews ipod touch this way and the sms's are received immediately.

That would actually then not involve anything with Dialcentral and hence require me to do nothing. I actually have sms/voicemail emailed to me and is one of the reasons i was hesitant on implementing it in the first place.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

It would require you to incorporate an open source ms exchange protocol into the code ;) I do not think Modest supports it and was unable to get claws to work either. It was just a thought that hit me. I'm not good with implementing anything, just some ideas hehe. I noticed a new version out, any changes worth mentioning?

If anyone was able to configure google sync please msg me some help and I would appreciate it :)

Why have it incorporated into Dialcentral and instead just use an email client in general? That way once Google implements IDLE in their imap support or (if you haven't) you upgrade to the n900 and Nokia fixes Google support for ms exchange then you get it?

A new version is in extras-devel. It has a couple bug fixes. I am 1 vote away from being in Maemo 5 extras so thats why I'm not pushing it :)

mrdally204 2009-12-30 16:50

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

i was envisioning the the push support more for theringone than dialcentral. why in TRO instead of email in general? less apps running for one. also as i mentioned modest and claws do not support it and from what you said it appears that the N900 does not either. we can wait for Nokia to fix the support, but i'm still waiting for them to fix random bugs for the 810 and i think we know thats not going to happen now. it will probably be a lot of work, but the results would be a notification system that would function just like any phones sms notification, instantly.

Did I miss somethinng? I am not able to get any Notifications anymore, no matter what version (1.0.9 or 1.0.10-0) I use. Is it GV, DC for us N810 users ;) or something on my end?

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I have been using the stand alone version of the notifier. I have noticed lately that I am getting a large number of false positives. My sound and light blink like I have a new message only for me to go check and find out that no one loves me. It is quite a slap to my delicate ego :( As far as no new notifications, I have yet to see this. It has happened to me in the past when I clean up some old messages, but after I receive 1 or 2 new ones, it worked as expected.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Hey Epage,
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but I'll throw it out there since I know you love my feature requests ;). How about the ability to send the same sms to multiple contacts at the same time. The way I see it, you select a contact from your list and it will bring you to the window we are accustomed to seeing. Then you can either add a new button that says "add" or something similar which will bring up your contact list with a check box next to each contact so you can add as many as wanted/needed. If you want to streamline the interface, you can also make the "Dial" button change to "Add" once text is added to the box instead of graying out the dial button.

A way of implementing it, at least in my mind is to create a Temp file of the message and send it to each contact individually in the background. Let me know if this idea is worth adding to the feature request list or if you feel it is unnecessary. I'm not sure what you have in store for theringone or its capabilities. If this is something you are working on for it, then I think the time needed to add it to DC would be better used to get TRO up and running. Thanks again for your time and effort in the project!

I wish I could get even a false positive, nothing is coming across. :(

heavyt,
Make sure that the notifier is checked in the settings. If it is I would attempt to uninstall and reinstall DC and see if that gives a working fix. If all else fails, you can temporarily have GV forward your messages to your email address so you will be notified till a fix to your problem is found. Hope all the best to ya.

For those of you having issues, could you list off the version of Dialcentral? tethered, wifi, data (n900), etc? n8x0 or n900? Does the Messages Tab work?

Could someone provide a log?

As a note, for those jumping the gun and running out of extras-devel, 1.0.10 does have notifications broken

Messages Tab works, wifi, version 1.0.9-1, and N810-WE. Not able to make calls or receive notifications. Will pm you the file.

what's up with theonering? Installed it and can't see it in my menu or any of the accounts.

My main need for Google Voice is an SMS sending and alert function. Is there any alternative? I saw mention of a GV Alerter. Is it available for Fremantle, and will it work for what I'm needing? DialCentral just doesn't cut it for me.

Otherwise, try running from the command line "python2.5 /usr/bin/dialcentral.py". That'll show a lot of debug messages which can help me in figuring out what is happening.

I can't get it to work on WiFi or T-mobile data connections. On T-mobile's data I get "There was a problem with GV:{'data':{'code':20}, 'ok': False}"

1.0.9.1 on N900 and n800.

Notifications don't seem to work on either. I've also noticed on the N900 that the SMS text can go off the screen. For example, I can SMS a friend and type a message but instead of wrapping in the box it just continues off the grid with no way to scroll. On the n800 it creates a scrollbar allowing you to scroll. Everything else seems to work (haven't tried Gizmo in a while though).

Seconded about the text going off the screen. It also seems to murder my battery. Other than that though it works great, it's good to have a nice GV solution for Maemo.

I'm kind of disturbed at the number of people who randomly install software from extras-devel without any kind of encouragement or endorsement of the author or having a previously working version of the same software implying some one-off changes might not destroy your device.

What about email notification?

What is wrong with Dialcentral's alerter as compared to GV Alerter? If its flakiness with alerting, it sounds like GV Alerter users are also being hit.

After many people reported this, I've finally gotten a bug filed on it
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7319

I've got a fix (and sped up contacts, and added a "History" tab filter, etc) in 1.0.10-3 which I just promoted to extras-testing (Maemo 5, still in extras-devel for Maemo 4.1)

Well I must say this program works great for me. Saved me from importing my google voice contacts to my phone. And if I need to text someone I just fire up the app and text them or place a call. So far this app saves me from using google voice from the web. Hats off to you and this great program.

That doesn't sound good. I'm curious about your usage patterns. Do you regularly keep Dialcentral continuously open? How heavily do you use it? Do you frequently refresh the tabs? Do you have notifications enabled? How frequently are they set to go off?

For those having issues with Notifications, I'm curious on how you would like me to prioritize my time.

Should I focus in the short term on:
  • Dialcentral Notifications working
  • Disable notifications and focus on The One Ring

My inclination is the latter but that is because notifications have never been a use case for me.

As for the calling issues, is anyone feel comfortable on the command line and is very patient that they would be willing to be a guinea pig?

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Epage, I'm happy to be a guinea pig. Shoot me an email or PM with what you'd like for me to try and I'll see what I can do after work.
As for short term focus, I'd vote for The One Ring myself, but it's your rodeo- don't let us dictate what you work on; do what's fun for you.

Notifications are important to me, but it seems in the long-run that The One Ring is better for basically everyone. Integration with the system SMS and dialer apps is something even Android doesn't have, so winning that battle will make me smile an evil little smile :)

Epage: I'm willing to change to OneRing if it's available on my N810. I've been impressed with DialCentral and your devotion to your creation. Thank you very much. It's wonderful that you care about your users but don't let us make your development efforts unrewarding and enjoyable to you.

Has anyone else had this issue? I try to place a call and it goes nowhere. I can login just fine and after I hit dial, a box even shows up that says dialing + the number, but then nothing happens. I can text with Dialcentral and I can receive calls with Gizmo with no problems but I just can't seem to get anywhere when I try to call. I am running Dialcentral 1.0.8-5 on N810.

Thanks!

Probably the last 10 pages on this thread are related to issues with callbacks and Gizmo. On 1.0.9 you at least get an error message though it is cryptic.

I unfortunately can't get gizmo to work at all. My short term work around is to suggest using sipgate instead.

My vote is for Dialcentral Notifications working because I have n810 so One Ring doesn't help me. Yes I can do a little command line for you.

My hope is to get The One Ring onto Maemo 4.1 but that is a lesser priority...

I just pushed 1.0.10-4 to the autobuilder. It should get notifications working again (I broke them in an earlier 1.0.10 build), reduce false positives, provide notification logging (~/.dialcentral/notifier.log), and make it so if you use the custom sound notifier, you can specify the location of the sound file
