Unfortunately meego.com OS doesn't have what people want from updates. Since N900 was released, the ms exchange functionality is working with fewer servers, html5 arrived, webm was invented, facebook features have been dropping off, and more and more websites require flash10 even for trivial things.

The browser issue is partially fixed, except that fennec requires the combined hardware of 4 N900s to run well.
No documentation on the video acceleration hardware, so WebM and future formats rely on Nokia.
Flash 10, Flash 11, Flash 12, Flash n+1 relies on Nokia/Adobe..


Hopefully atleast Meego.com updates would bring a kernel not hopelessly outdated, and userspace tools that are up to date too. Good for developers, but not that interesting to end-users.

it's actually hexaband, which means that it works anywhere in the world. But it does not have LTE, WiMax or whatever it is called these days...

I'm actually quite surprised that nearly nobody jumped on the display resolution wagon... he he... :D

So the screen is really 720p?! Will it be CBD?
There is a lot of talk by eldar that it will only be 92k N950s... Could you please tell me this is not true? Else I will have to be standing in line like a apple fanboy to get one :/

must say, I've got wood looking at the video and still shots.
looks like the perfect upgrade.
bigger screen, nice kb spacing, hdmi.
I'm not fussed about the political fighting over whether it's "real" meego or not. if the OS is fast, stable and bug free and the built in software functionality is there, I'm in.

i think, if the "V" has 6px (with my missing px in the base) that would be great... awesome... incredible...

The first HDready (1280*720) phone in the world...

Due to this, the cpu cant be a singlecore (except they made the most ressource-less os in the world) if they want it run as smooth as in the teaser... i still hope for a dc and a good gpu... maybe really with the u8500... i think this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_ubl-vMLqw) should become saying the truth... he deserves it ;)

Lets dream a little bit: You are meeting a friend in a cafe... he putts his iphone 4 on the table... you put your n9 on the table... and he gets big eyes while watching a hd 720p movie on the n9 realising that he is not able to do the same... ;)

A couple of months ago there was a user in Finnish mobile phone forum telling that he had heard from a Nokia engineer that Harmattan phone will have higher screen resolution than N900.

Is this a credible source? Not really but adds nicely to the speculation here.

I don't know him, but let's face it: 800x480 was used by Nokia since 2005 - 2006 (Nokia 770).
A display resolution upgrade would make sense. Especially since the iPhone 4.

Hey, it doesn't have to continue being just a speculation...
Compare the screenshots and you have your answer...

Ok, I'm not totally awake yet, so please correct me if my logic is off, but if i take the word clock from the n900 screen, it's 38 pixels wide. This means it fits 12.6315789 times on a 480px screen.

When i then measure the width of the n950 screen on the screencap, and take the black borders in account, i get something like 1120px wide, and 76px for the word Clock, meaning that it would fit 14.73 times on that screen.

Multiplying 38px with 14.7368421 gives me 560px, so I'm leaning more to qHD, and thus 960*540.

No, I'm not interested in the theoretical advantage of pulling dependencies, I couldn't care less. But I have used 2 android devices, and at about 20 installed apps they complain about memory full. I'm sure there is a lot of redundancy in those apk files (otherwise why simple apps should be 20 and 30 megabytes)

What app (excluding games) is 20 megabytes in extras?

you're assuming that the resolution of the font is the same on both devices. it wouldn't make sense to keep the icon/font-resolution of a lower resolution device on a higher resolution device because the resolution have to aument to remain with the same icon/font-size.

EDIT: Oh oh, another thing, the fonts doesn't seem exactly the same. The N9/50 screen has a larger space between the o and the c in Clock than the N900 pic.

a 1024x768px resolution would be nice, even a 560p would be nice. I had the problem that some dialogs at gimp where to height for the 480p N900 screen. So, with a 560p or 768p screen would Gimp work a lot better!
But sadly it will most likely get a capacitive screen. And without this accuracy and without pen Gimp will stop working for me. :(

as it is clearly a 16:9 ratio, it would be 1280x720, 960x540 or 854x480.
yes, that's the down-side of a capacitive screen...

I just hope the People who get Dev devices are not made to sign NDA otherwise we will have to wait until launch of the Consumer product before we get a full look of UI and stuff.

Some of us have been waiting so long for Harmattan and later on MeeGo..... now again Harmattan device that i i'm going to boil over if we wont see the device meant for us consumers by end of this month. whatever that device ends to be.

I mean i'm just trying to throw some big sums of money to Nokia's face but they are not accepting it. ;)

i,m not too fussed about 720p, it would be nice but only truly useful in edge cases, but qHD would be both a mimimum expected and genuinely useful.

Personally I could have done without the first teaser, then I wouldn't have read through 42 pages (and counting) of mostly wild speculation. ;)
