I am confused... Do I need to slide out the keyboard to avoid obstructing the camera? There is no dedicated hole in the keyboard layout... I guess there is no way around it, since it would introduce fragility issues. Which would not be solved even by having the hole in center of four-arrows parts (anywhere else it would be even more clumsy?)

Best wishes. Thank you.

yes, just take off the keyboard part or slide it out to take a picture.
it would be weird to have a hole in your tohkbd, isn't it?

Re: TOHKBD rev2

The keyboard is attached with strong magnets. You can simply unattach it to take photographs.

Good for being the first one to bring this up. I will change the PCBs, make a hole in the casing and mail Korea to throw away the molds and start making other ones. Will look like this.

Sorry for the sarcastic response. This question is the most asked, most answered and explained one. Almost on every page.

In other news:

First 485 TOH-cover PCBs are solderes, tested and EEPROM programmed. Next 1000 PCBs just arrived, do not look forward to soldering them.. Then attaching 3000 connector plates with 12000 solder joints. By hand.
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/yq0ctzwymn1...2019.48.13.jpg

Next keyboard casing arrived, *almost* slips in like a glove. Need to remove some material where there is expected build-up in the printing process. The 'locking trees' at the bottom work better than expected. Not a hassle to assemble, toight like a toiger and still possible to disassemble.

Material to be removed in next iteration:
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/uz2dxfa8kj7...prevention.JPG
Interested in why I do this, check the production videos on Shapeways, very cool stuff.

Small feature added to keyboard PCB, test pads for testing the LEDs during manufacturing:
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ofgvuyn1x81la3d/testpad.JPG

Also, designed some soldering mold for the connector pads. Being printed in stainless steel.

Arrow keys should always be on the right! :)
But that's just my personal opinion.
Anyway, I will be more than happy to have a keyboard even if the arrow keys are on the left...

and yet andrew and i want it on the left for a lot of good reasons #usethesearchfunction

feel very free to further discuss this in this thread, please do not fill this one with a suggestion that is done before, impossible to implement in this project and not wanted by us.

last final-final-final #final details of the keypad are ironed out. no eta on proto delivery yet, but will keep you guys posted.

domesheet designed and requested quotes on some places
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/1tigneexqon5rf0/domesheet.JPG

now checking whether the pcb still has the buttons at the right place. in other words hand checking x and y coordinates on 70 domes. nice.

some initial assembly on the backplate has also started

Ordered a test batch of 100 domesheet, hope they are in time for FOSDEM, becaaaaauuuuseeeeee:

I also ordered a revised version of this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/d5y30mjm00m...2013.20.09.jpg

How's that for transparency! Very brittle material, so in no means suitable for regular users, but cool for giving demo's!

Yes, really cool.

I've said before that there is a lot of support that does not reach the frontpage and hardware community projects are rarely mentioned in these updates, presentations etc, but this is a nice commitment and signal to the rest of the community :)

Hello guys, don't know, if its been alredy discussed here...
It is possible to use the +5V and -GND Pins for Inductive charging pad, if they are alredy connected to the TOHKBD Bottom Circuit ?

In other words, can i solder 2 wires to this pins, if they will be alredy used for TOHKBD ?

THanks

There is no room for such components in the casing that connects to the phone, nor is there in the keyboard part.

If you want to however make a different disconnectable part with qi charging in it yourself, yes that is possible.

This PCB and casing fit like a glove, so for now I will assume this is the final design. I have to wait however on the first actual keypads and domesheets to confirm everthing.

Too late now, but it occurred to me last week that if the contact pad had an extra terminal for 5V, (and a fet switch, or even just a schottky diode internally; something to protect the circuit) then the same case back part of TOH could be used to either mount TOHKBD, or provide the basis of a solid, simple dashboard mount with charging capability.

Something I might have a play with once my TOHKBD arrives...

Check. 6 contact pads.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

As a Motorola droid (3) owner I know Motorola had all kinds of docking stations and matching phone profiles for the different docking stations. Sort of like what the Jolla has a other halves.
Put the phone in your night stand dock and it will charge and show a dim alarm clock, put it in you car dock and it will launch the satnav.

I doubt anybody changes their other half when they go to bed or go driving. It should have been something easy with magnets ;)

I'm looking forward to building a magnetic docking station connecting to the six contact pads. although I am told charging the phone won't be possible.

I've tried searching the thread, so I hope this question hasn't already been answered,

Will it be possible/probable to have keyboard shotcuts for swiping/OS maneuvers? Like Ctrl + -> = Swipe right, and Alt + Tab = go to application window?

Emulating swipe gestures will be PITA to implement, but not impossible.
The Alt-Tab = go to homescreen is in same category. I have studied few different possibilities to implement it, but nothing solid yet.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

Ordered the first few hundred keyboard PCBs.
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/s8si73zv6eoj0gy/2.0.6.5.JPG

The first keypad samples should arrive before the end of februari, so I should be able to send all proto's for the 400E orders and our Hero, as well as the DIY people.
After that I should have a few developer devices left for internal development.

Things that still need to be determined at that point are for instance some resistor values (trial&error) for the backlight brightness and some production issues need to be ironed out -for instance the pogo pins do not go in my pick&place machine.

Still going fine, still mostly waiting on parts.

This is how ~1000 TOH-covers look like btw:

9 januari on IRC.

It started out with something completely different on which urjaman said: "also, there isn't a 5V available (3.3V is), but that's not relevant ..."

On which I replied "That would probably make it impossible to charge the Jolla from the back cover"

And then kimmoli wrote: "unfortunately charge pin is not available on base pads".

Awesome.

FYI, if someone builds a magnetic desk/night stand charging dock for the TOHKB cover, I will immediately buy 4 of them. 6, if there's 3,5mm audio output.

Two quick questions:
1. In the Kickstarter mail it suggests a picture of the signature edition should have been there but there is none, though I ordered regular I am of course very curious what I'm missing out on....

2. Any chance of combining bumperOH with the keyboard OH?
