First, "I believe" means it is my personal opinion, so who are you to say if it is true or wrong? Future will tell :)

Second, do you own a tablet?
I had used HP Veer (2.6-inch screen) for few months, paired with HP Touchpad, and it was very comfortable. If you look at CES, tablets (while I don't think they are very useful, having used one for over a year) gain more attention than mobile phones.

So, when people purchase a tablet that can be reasonably paired with their smartphone, they won't need large screen on their phone. Just my two cents.

Sorry for being offtopic, I hope Jolla will offer alternative to oversized Android phones, since it most likely won't be able to compete spec-wise.

Yeah, I too have an HP Touchpad. Until I got a Galaxy Nexus it was my main browser. Nothing wrong with two devices, but the GN versatility has me rarely reaching for the Touchpad these days. I'm a stylus guy; the killer combo would be a Note 10.1 and a Note II with vanilla Android or Ubuntu Mobile.

Lumiaman, we know this is off-topic but it isn't a just-for-laughs thread so keep your jokes for the countdown thread etc :p

Personally I want my phone to stay at 4.1->5", 5.5" absolute max, but that's really pushing it.
For more real-estate I have my 7"+ tablets... But that's just my personal taste...

Interesting is how it is all about preference... 7" tablet is too small for me, but it is way too big for phone. Then there's Kindle in this screen size category :)

PS: I think the only reason screens sizes are currently growing is the fact that phone manufacturers are lost and don't know how else to innovate. All smartphones look the same, regular customers don't care how many cores the CPU has, further addition of megapixels to small cameras turned counterproductive... Right now, making bigger screens is the only way to emulate innovation for marketing.

"large screens is going to cool down quite soon"

LOL...Dude, You can be more wrong!!!!

Big screens everywhere. however, phones will built into other stuffs like clocks, earrings, bracelets, hats, cards, tvs, pens, freezes and ultimatly the human body. But the big screens are here to day! small, medium AND BIIIIIIIIIIG!

If jolla comes up with a 4 inch phone or less I would just starting lauching and after a few seconds starting to cry because of their epic failure.

Did anyone see the Tactus touchscreens from CES?

http://www.webpronews.com/ces-2013-t...agical-2013-01

I have heard of similar tech being considered a couple of years ago but have never seen anything as tangible as this.

From the video, it appears to only be portrait only right now but the tech is still in its early days.

Either way, it is certainly the most innovating thing that I have seen in screen tech in recent years. Maybe other manufacturers will start to look into this for future devices?

Read my post again and you'll realize you're saying the same thing I am. (including the thought that I can be way more wrong than that ;) )

Phones will definitely be built into other stuffs like clocks, earrings, bracelets, hats, cards... As I mentioned, I have used 2.6" phone without any problem. I was regularly sending texts from the tablet, through the small device. However, when I needed to do something quickly or go somewhere without my bag, I'd take the phone out and do it one-handed.

I believe you don't think people will carry 5" watch on their wrists... I will call 'a phone' the watch, bracelet or whatever has the phone funtionality, not the tablet that will be paired with it.

As I mentioned, I can hardly use a tablet smaller than those 9" or so. Having 5-6" phone that doesn't fit my pocket and can neither replace the tablet is just inconvenient. Neither I can make calls from the 10" tablet. So, phones will eventually become smaller, compact devices, as people buy more tablets (which will fill their current desires about large screens).

You dont get it, the size will be irellevant in 3 years from NOW. drop it right now. 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 inch dosent matter becouse there are 10000 ways to make them invissable or pratical to use when you move.

This is you sometime next year.

Or if you are not in to high tech body gear you can order the tiny clock. I'm waiting for the 5 inch clock:
