Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones
Sailfish need to lift their game & very soon, they risk losing most mind-share to Ubuntu:
http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/c...ones-February/ http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/24/c...one-core-apps/ Having a device specially tailored for the OS before Canonical may redress much of that, but it's only part of the equation. |

I hope Sailfish and Ubuntu Phone both be succesful. |

To say that somthing working inhouse is not the same working in the big world. I think jolla device is around 6 month away and ubuntu around 12 month. But I wouldn't be surprised if the dates are pushed even further to get everything together for a customer launch.
Just look at jollas SDK... Things always take more time. |

Canonical has more resources at it's disposal, has a larger community, & most importantly seems way better at "leveraging the community". So far Sailfish(Jolla) don't seem to be very good at the latter at all... |

Core app conversion should be rather simple. Licensing might be the issue. But as it stands, I have more faith in Canonical in that one department then most upstarts. Let's see. Having both Jolla and Ubuntu out there, as well as Firefox OS means that we all have more options. |

Samsung also is after a small break interested to get Tizen ready. Samsung has already few core apps, which it only needs to port from Android to Tizen. Samsung has a whole parallel ecosystem not dependent to Google. And as Tizen will be able to run Android apps, it has a good kick start right away. I guess, Samsung will release all its top end smartphones with both Android and Tizen, and device owners can then switch also later and many times between them. So if I would have to bet, I would bet on Samsung and Tizen. It has huge resources to make it work. |
Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones
I'm personally hoping one of the MeR derivatives or Ubuntu has way more success, Tizen is a distant third as a priority, alongside FFOS/OWebOS.
We don't need a even more powerful Samsung dominating hw "&" sw spheres, not good for anyone (except Samsung) ultimately... |

What do Jolla mean with "early Q1" for the SDK.
It's soon mid Q1? where is the SDK? anyone seen it? |

They are busy with Fosdem. Probably after that.
