Ubuntu will only be cultivating the dev scene by doing that*...
They won't capture mainstream attention until they have a device or devices purpose-built for Ubuntu Mobile.

*which is a important start & something Jolla needs to watch carefully, & counter or leverage.

Zopo Mobile? Sailfish on a Chinese phone? :(

OMG! They used to make Samsung clones!

Yeah already posted here....

As for "clones", well that's kinda debatable*, & in some ways it's karma for one of the masters of "imitate/refine" --> "extend/innovate" (whilst remaining good value).

*& we don't know what their Sailfish device will be like, it could be completely different.

There are already a lot of Chinese rebranded phones in India running Android and are quite affordable. Indian market is too competitive when it comes to price/specs. Players like Micromax and Karbonn are selling their quad-core phones at 1/3rd of the price of their Samsung/LG/Sony counterparts. And people know Chinese phones wont last long and hence they wont be ready to buy Sailfish spending more money (?) which would make them "just-another-player". IMO, Sailfish on a Chinese phone in India could flop. Idk.

That Indian story was actually slightly incorrect, Jolla is targeting their ph for the top-end, other sailfish alliance members don't necessarily have to do that, the choice is theirs.

In India there is big markets (not money wise though) to win. Lots of subpar Nokia Asha devices still sold there, which do not have correct Web-browser nor GPS-navigation and rather restricted 3rd party app supply. (And Ashas cannot have either much more, or Microsoft will force Nokia to use expensive WP on them.) Android will succeed in India also, whether with pure Android or with Sailfish or Tizen with Android app support.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Yeah current Nokia management has guaranteed that WP will have to be pushed lower & lower, it was deliberate.
They knew S40 was limited as-to-how much it could be improved, & that longer-term it would be non-competitive.*
Meltemi was a way out of that, but that was deliberately stopped so that WP could eventually fill that space, which it's "starting" to do now.
But even WP won't go as low as the lowest Asha's go, the profit's already very tight at the top-end of the Asha price-range.

*it's actually still doing quite well in it's price range.

What high-end phone can Zopo make? :D Other than quad-core processor and 2/3 GB RAM? Indian market is already flooded by cheap Android devices with these specs :D And afterall, Zopo is a Chinese phone and I believe Zopo + Sailfish doesn't stand a chance :o
