All flite does is announce directions (i.e. "Turn left at Main Street") as you approach waypoints. It doesn't text-to-speech any of the text on the map.

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
I've tried to do some searches for this, but how do I download all the maps for the east coast or any other region in advance?
I have an 8GB card in my N810, and would like the freedom to simply roam without updating as I go. |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
Get the area you want to download filling the screen, Menu, Maps, Manage Maps. Select the zoom levels you want, and the area defaults to the area you see. Select OK, and wait awhile.

Fantastic, thanks!
Wow, that's a LOT of maps, ain't it? LOL Looks like a little repository trimming is probably in order or something. :D |

Usually I get an "Invalid NMEA data", then it stays on "establishing GPS Fix" I tried installing 2.0.5 but no luck. Any ideas or any fix (no pun intended) been found for this? Thanks. I have been able to get it to establish a gps fix with Carman and other gps programs(on laptop). I've actually been trying to get this to work on and off for 5 or 6 months without much luck. Quitting when I get too frustrated. Being able to use my N800 as a GPS would be awesome. Thanks for any info/suggestions |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
According to what I read, Google satellite allows greater zoom level and higher clarity images but the problem is that, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't use Google Satellite in maemo-mapper. I tried couple extra URLs but still got the message failed to download maps message. So i was wondering if anyone can help me with this thanks..

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
MM is such a great ap for the IT, Thanks.
I was wondering about the database compact feature. Every time I try to use it on a repository that has more than just a few maps downloaded, it eventually crashes MM, and often corrupts the whole database. I imagine it is simply running out of memory. I don't have virtual memory turned on, which I'm sure makes the problem worse, but I am a little worried about wearing out flash memory with it. In fact I just trashed out an SD card while doing a database compact! So perhaps there was a lot of writing going on there too. So I wonder if it is possible to copy the whole db file to a PC (I have many running Linux) and compact the database there using some SQL-Lite compatible utility, then copy it back? If so, how do you do it? I also use the IT and MM while hiking in mountains. I then do screen shots of our tracks on top of various maps and send them to others that were on the hike. A feature request would be an altitude gain/loss along a track. |

I recently re-flashed my 770 and re-installed Maemo-Mapper and have run into the problem where MM can't see the bluetooth gps. I've followed the instructions quoted above with one tweak - I've replaced Code:
"*Install new libgps17 Code:
"*Install new libgps18 However the penultimate step presents a problem i.e. Code:
"in MM, open the settings dialog and choose the 'file path' option with "/dev/rfcomm0" as the path" Does anyone have a way past this? Tablet : Nokia 770 OS Version: 3.2006.49-2 Maemo Mapper Version: 2.6.2 |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
First of all, thanks for the GREAT app. MaemoMapper is rapidly becoming my favorite navigation tool, even over my all-in-one TomTom GO700 (which I've spend a small fortune upgrading and updating over the past few years). I'm this close >_< to giving the TomTom to my teenagers.
Question: I searched and browsed through the thread, as well as the Help file, but I didn't find anything relevant, so I'll ask it here: Click for screenshot (sorry for the link, but the embedded image option of this forum doesn't seem to work???) The above screenshot of MM on my N810 shows that when I start to type in an address for a route where I've been before, that address is suggested to me. In the above example, there's only one suggestion, but sometimes there's more than one. Anyway, how do I select what is suggested in the list? I've tried tab (from the onscreen keyboard since there isn't one on the hardware keyboard), the D-pad, Enter, and all the other usual methods for this, but I can't get it to work. It sure would be a lot easier than typing it all in again. Is this a little bug on the N810 (because of the hardware keyboard)? Thanks, -- Chris |
