Haha - dammit! Worth a try!

On a serious note - one thing that irritates me slightly is the fact that any devices at ALL will be available in store... I mean, that means people who have NOT PRE-ordered can stroll in and beat people in the queue.

Surely, EVERY device they get in should go to filling preorders and THEN they can go in store?! That's not fair otherwise!!

Yeah i agree, what was the point in pre-ordering when people who didnt bother will end up with the device first.

Yes, well, I got the (second) "stock released" mail from them after they screwed up my first order, but haven't received a shipping mail.. and that time makes me think I won't today. Not a happy camper :(

I really hope i dont get a duff unit. a review a read about MPD said they're really not very helpfull in that scenario. (no shock there tho)
If i do get a duff unit i think it'd be time to go find the cheif exec of MPD and wedge the thing firmly down his wind pipe.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

To my surprise, I just got a reply fromt he Salisbury Nokia Retail Store concerning my earlier email asking if I could do an in-store connection on Friday and cancel my web order because it isn't being shipped to my current address;

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the order of your N900.

For security reasons we are only able to dispacth the handset to the address used for the credit check.
I cannot confirm whether or not we will have the stock available, at this time. With this in mind i would not suggest cancelling your web order
with a mind to doing a connection in branch as this may cause further problems.

Which network are you using currently and on which network are you connecting the N900?

Kind regards

Sam Jennings

Sent an email back saying I'm just upgrading on Vodafone - maybe it will be a simple thing to do in store on Friday and I will have it the dat after tommorow?! :o

I can only dream...

You on T-Mobile or Voda? If T-Mobile - I wouldn't bother with the hassle. You can do it after they connect you.

If Voda, the webshop@mobilephonesdirect.co.uk address (including your order number) is the way to go. It said that in a previous email from them.

Check you asked to do the port of course as it asked you when you signed up the very first time you put your order in :)

Hehe, a few of us are technically a year older than when we ordered as I know several people in this thread had their birthday in November.

I for example was 29 when I ordered, now 30 and expecting shipping by the time I reach 40.

Incidentally, MPD ship by Royal Mail Special Delivery NOT Recorded, which unfortunately DO charge more for Saturday deliveries. So I do not think our chances are good of getting it before Monday.

I would happily pay a little bit more for Saturday delivery at this point, but MPD do not seem to give that option presumably because they would not necessarily be expecting to ship on a Friday.

Its annoying though, when I got contract phones (much much cheaper ones than the N900) before they were delivered on Saturdays.

I'm with T-mobile, and I definitely asked for a port, but I searched my emails for 'PAC' and none of the others I got mention it, even though I ordered back in september. Are you sure that I'll be able to do it after I get the phone?

EDIT: Got it off asda and sent it to them anyway.

EDIT: Got the email too!!

Good so my device will last me till this same time next year after my 12 month contract.....= second half of next year(december) + delays =dec/jan . Would be pointless to release next version of same device till at least the 12 month contracts are honoured. Anyway I got my email (generic) so will have to put up with THIS device till then.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I have a problem,
hopefully i should have my n900 by monday,
therefore i'm about to order an invisible shield.
problem is when i get the n900 should i apply the invisible shield straight away, or wait a while to check out the phone.
The problem with applying straight away is that i might end up with a faulty/buggy phone that needs to be replaced, hence the ruin of a £15 invisibleshield.
The problem with not applying straight away is that the phone might get scratched, and that would very much scratch my heart aswell.

What should i do?

got the shield waiting at home, i'm going to apply it straight away because a scratch on the screen that i have to live with for the term of the contract will piss me way more than spending £15 on another shield

Be very, very careful and check out your phone first- whilst sitting down and holding over the settee. When you're sure- THEN apply your cover. To be honest, it should come off anyway without marking it.
