I don't think Nokia/Maemo team are working hard. There willl be only 4 new features as this article states http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_5/PR1.2 . It this hardworking? Sorry I don't really give a s@#t about the bug fixes since they're not suppose to be there in the first place. I mean come on. Nokia is one of the biggest cell phone manufacturer and they forgot to put "Fax" field into address book? What kind of joke is this?

Yes, but the worldwide has to be released first. UK will get PR 1.2 some Friday after the rest of the world got it. :-P

I think the 2 people that still work on Maemo 5 team are probably working very hard, as they'll now be trying to earn permanent contracts on the Symbian team. I think we've already got 1.2 but it is not accessible simply through the update. in order to get the magic link you need to pass the level 16 of Angry Birds custom pack what doesn't look trivial. But once you do that, n900 update API will fire the event needNewFirmware, appropriate handler will catch it and download started. With 1.2 you will also get levels 17-21 for your custom pack.

The reason to this is that Nokia folk think if you are not playing AB, you don't need an update since you should be okay with out of the box firmware, no matter what version is. and only the biggest fans of n900 would get through the innovational update process.

Question, why can't we just create 1.2 from the sdk?

Is the amount of work prohibitive? Are there other factors?

I don't think the SDK has the full update. Just whatever's really necessary for development.

So we know we don't look out for weekends for the update and rather look at weekdays....oh and its Soon -.- !

My prediction when Meego was announced was that it would inevitably cause delays and the need to reorganize many things. I think that this delay is part of the fallout.

I can't believe it. April 10, still waiting... perhaps we must open a "PayPal Donate" to help Nokia, amateur software must be supported.
Anyway, the good news: Eclair NITDroid will be out before PR1.2 for sure, so we'll have a easy migration to Android before our overclocked n900 gets in fire.

from what i see in the USA manual, issue 1.2 (this means for pr 1.2 right?) we have internet video call, since it's says that the red light will go on when the secondary camera is activated. (page 21)

i second that... actually i already lost all faith in any firmware. since half of the apps requires 1.2 to update/install n i don't expect 1.2 to be ever release, sold my device already.

Err... considering the firmware update has quite a few improvements to the browser, which is one integral part to any computer nowdays, I consider that important.

Though the degree of desperation in this thread is a bit extreme.

Well Barrie you must not have noticed all the bugs which have been littering bugzilla then :).
A lot of people are having trouble using it as it currently is and though some are obsessed with the "upgrade my device" cycle, there are people who are patiently waiting for Nokia to sort out these issues.

I think this thread is just funny. If it would have been rumoured that the fw is in May would some peope be complaining?

We know it's coming so relax. What does is matter to your life if the update that gives back button to browser comes week or two later. Yes i know many here are just milking this thread and having fun, but those who take it so seriously you will be dissapointed.

Overclocking the device will make 10x more to N900 than any fw update.

you realize that you just made up the "skype"-part yourself? the new manual only states that regular video calls still won't work and video is only supported as part of voip calls. it does not mention skype specifically in any way.

We're just very anxious and impatient to enjoy our device, we want improvements, updates, etc.

It would be better if they would release more often updates than delay for so long. There're so many things need to be improve and missing basic feature. We love our device and is using it everyday, of course we want a better improve version.

Don't misunderstand that we're not happy with the N900, it's because we like the N900, that's why we want it to improve and works better. That's why the impatience.
There're already information on the web and also YouTube videos by Nokia since late February on the updates, it's taking very long.

The N900 has officially launch in my country in late March, which I tought it would come with the latest firmware but seems not. On the other hand, the Milestone is also launched around the same time and it gets Android 2.1 out of the box.
