Already downloaded the leaked P.R1.3 firmware to flash the n950.

BTW, as a begginer to MeeGo / Harmattan I (and probably others) would like to ask:
*Is inception sufficent for development on the n950 or should I use open mode kernel? (my guess after a bit of reading is that it will suffice)

*What is the Extras-devel equivalent repository for harmattan (where all the ...-dev packages are)?

*Is it risky to flash the n950 with the leaked P.R1.3 firmware? (slowdowns or firmware down-grading problems)

you only need system privileges that inception or open mode provide when you develop something that replaces system packages; ordinary apps etc don't require them. Even if needed, inception should be sufficient in most cases and do remember if you make something that is open mode only you will be reaching a smaller user base as most ordinary users use inception... Open mode is also used by those who dual boot Nitdroid on their device...

harmattan SDK repo is what you are looking for

pr1.3 for n950 i think means you cant downgrade; just like the n9 you cant downgrade to a lower/older pr version... From what i have heard from members of the #n950 club, the leaked firmware is better than pr1.2...

Indeed :) It's a great surprise that 64GB N9's are being sent out, I just hope that they all will be the same and not a mixture of sizes.. I'm sure anyone who receives a 16GB one now would be a little disappointed..

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I don't think there's any chance of a 64GB N950 coming your way. I think the earliest N950 prototypes had 64GB but that was some time ago.. (if I remember right). As always with developer devices - expect the lowest configuration and be delighted if there's a bonus :)

Hang in there taixzo, there does't seem to be any ordering so far. Your turn will come :)

Any news from Halftux? I believe he's leaving tomorrow on his trip, I guess it'll arrive a little too late now :(

No news and no email so far.:(
Yeah leaving tomorrow early in the morning.
However I think I would not have so much time on this trip because it is a business trip and I will work 12 to 14 hours each day.

For waiting so long I will be all on edge. I can't wait to going home again and I am still at home.:)
So when I come back I will have some time to play with my new baby and at home it is more save than on a trip.

Hopefully it will surely arrive.

It's arrived! =)

No DHL tracking codes beforehand, just package and the N950 inside today! Well, this makes sense, since devices are sent from Finland to Finland as regular post packages.

Thanks again for voters, organizers and of course to Nokia'ns too!

Am I happy now? Yes, definitely! :D

Re: 2012 Coding Competition

Just received a black 64GB N9 made in Finland. :)

BTW, DHL is FAST. According to tracking, it took them slightly less than 24 hours to get there (Czech Republic). :)

Re: 2012 Coding Competition

Yeah, I am really amazed by speed of DHL.
From Finland to Serbia it took also slightly less than 24 hours.
However those papers, verification and god knows what will take longer than actual shipment :(

My also received in Israel but got stuck in status "Clearance delay"
Quote:

Further clearance processing is required
A DHL representative will attempt to contact importer or shipper if any further information is required to complete the entry. Customer should contact DHL Customer Service if not reached by DHL
it stuck a few hours... How much time I need to wait and contact to local DHL ?
:(

:(

They contacted me 1-2 hours after package is received in Belgrade (Serbia).
I was told that I needed to send them some details and sign some papers (I received email with those papers and done that within 1 hour).
They told me that usually takes 1-2 days to be processed.
I am still waiting (status: "Clearance delay" since yesterday).

I am expecting to receive package by Friday.

Without any notification there was a DHL package this evening on my desk. Looks like a white 64GB N950 ;)

@halftux
Maybe you got yours also tonight?

BTW, a big THANK YOU to
kojacker for organizing
all donators, contributors, applicators, ...
all participants for their entries
all voters (epecially to those for mine entry ;))
and of course NOKIA for their prizes and the very fast sending out of devices.
Forgot anybody to mention? Please feel also thanked!

Absolutely. It is written on the box and at Settings > Device > Data storage the total storage is shown as 15.79GB. Anyway I am very happy with the device and 16GB is more than enough for my current needs :)

That is amazingly quick! I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to celebrate DHL's speed to Colombia by watching some music videos of Shakira. On my own. With the door locked.

Congrats for receiving the devices guys!

DHL employee contacted me today, told me it may arrive on sunday at earliest. The DHL tracking shows that there is a "Clearance delay" for two days already.
Come on DHL, hurry things up, can't wait to get my hands on that n950! :)

In mine case: they finished clearance today at 8PM (after 3 days of waiting), but I think that this is due to government of my country, not due to DHL.

Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.

How do I update the N950 to the latest firmware? I tried doing a software update from the phone itself, but it just hangs at "preparing phone for update."

I also believe I read there is a stable 1.3 firmware that was "leaked"? Is it indeed "stable"? Any gotchas with using that? Don't want to mess up my new beloved.

Thanks!

Yesterday I updated mine with this: http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/release/N950-39-5/

I tought that it would be the safest way, since the device had a firmware that was older than the previous of 39-5. With Kubuntu 10.04 update worked like a charm with the instructions linked above. Note, however that One Click Flasher will erase everything, so backup if you already have some important data on device!

I'm curious about the leaked firmware, too. Any comments about it would be appreciated much!

My update didn't work. Had lots of issues. Currently my N950 is not responding / charging. I ordered a battery and charger and will attempt to replace the battery and than see if I can try flashing again. The problem I got was something about not being able to erase the MMC secure. The battery drained during these attempts and now is phone is at a battery loop cycle that never charges past 1%.

For anyone trying to flash your N950, make sure it's at 100%.

jukra 2012-11-02 20:44

Re: 2012 Coding Competition

Sorry to hear about problems on update :( Hopefully the new battery will resolve the problem.

It is indeed important, that the battery is fully charged before update.

Re: 2012 Coding Competition

AND DON'T UPDATE YOUR N950 OTA from the pre-release firmware (the one with developer edition all over the place)

It won't do anything irreversible, but it will save you a lot of frustration because many people (including me) reported non-bootable device after OTA upgrade.

Estel 2012-11-03 06:24

Re: 2012 Coding Competition

Yes, one click flasher and so on is a way to go. OTA from pre-release always result in bootloop.

But prelease with "Developer Edition" looks so cute, I am not going to flash ;)

Is there a reason why everybody links the 39-5 (PR1.1) firmware OCF?
Why not directly flash officialPR1.2 (02-6) from
http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/release/N950/firmware
or PR1.3 with that flasher version?

One more nice "official" link:
