you only need system privileges that inception or open mode provide when you develop something that replaces system packages; ordinary apps etc don't require them. Even if needed, inception should be sufficient in most cases and do remember if you make something that is open mode only you will be reaching a smaller user base as most ordinary users use inception... Open mode is also used by those who dual boot Nitdroid on their device... harmattan SDK repo is what you are looking for pr1.3 for n950 i think means you cant downgrade; just like the n9 you cant downgrade to a lower/older pr version... From what i have heard from members of the #n950 club, the leaked firmware is better than pr1.2... |

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
I am very happy to announce that my Nokia N9 Black 16GB has arrived :) Thank you very much! Honestly I have been always secretly dreaming about N9 although I had N950 developer device :)

Yeah leaving tomorrow early in the morning. However I think I would not have so much time on this trip because it is a business trip and I will work 12 to 14 hours each day. For waiting so long I will be all on edge. I can't wait to going home again and I am still at home.:) So when I come back I will have some time to play with my new baby and at home it is more save than on a trip. Hopefully it will surely arrive. |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
It's arrived! =)
No DHL tracking codes beforehand, just package and the N950 inside today! Well, this makes sense, since devices are sent from Finland to Finland as regular post packages. Thanks again for voters, organizers and of course to Nokia'ns too! Am I happy now? Yes, definitely! :D |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Just received a black 64GB N9 made in Finland. :)
BTW, DHL is FAST. According to tracking, it took them slightly less than 24 hours to get there (Czech Republic). :) |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Yeah, I am really amazed by speed of DHL.
From Finland to Serbia it took also slightly less than 24 hours. However those papers, verification and god knows what will take longer than actual shipment :( |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
My also received in Israel but got stuck in status "Clearance delay"

I was told that I needed to send them some details and sign some papers (I received email with those papers and done that within 1 hour). They told me that usually takes 1-2 days to be processed. I am still waiting (status: "Clearance delay" since yesterday). I am expecting to receive package by Friday. |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Yabbadabbadoo.
Got it! Without any notification there was a DHL package this evening on my desk. Looks like a white 64GB N950 ;) @halftux Maybe you got yours also tonight? --edit BTW, a big THANK YOU to kojacker for organizing all donators, contributors, applicators, ... all participants for their entries all voters (epecially to those for mine entry ;)) and of course NOKIA for their prizes and the very fast sending out of devices. Forgot anybody to mention? Please feel also thanked! |

Device just got home! :) DHL is way too fast, just two days from Finland to Colombia :D Thanks to everybody that voted for my apps!
|
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
It's great to see all the happy 'received' emails coming in :D
I added a "Prize received" column to the Prizes table in the Wiki, please update to let me know when your device has arrived safely. (I've started it off with the ones mentioned on here so far) Quote:

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Got my N950 today. It's going to be very hard to keep working my job for the rest of the day. It's going to be even harder to get to the gym tonight...

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
I just received mine. Boxed looks old and dinged up but phone looks new. :)

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Congrats for receiving the devices guys!
DHL employee contacted me today, told me it may arrive on sunday at earliest. The DHL tracking shows that there is a "Clearance delay" for two days already. Come on DHL, hurry things up, can't wait to get my hands on that n950! :) |

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Its here! :)
Got Nokia N9 Black 16GB, playing with it right now :) |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
How do I update the N950 to the latest firmware? I tried doing a software update from the phone itself, but it just hangs at "preparing phone for update."
I also believe I read there is a stable 1.3 firmware that was "leaked"? Is it indeed "stable"? Any gotchas with using that? Don't want to mess up my new beloved. Thanks! |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition

I tought that it would be the safest way, since the device had a firmware that was older than the previous of 39-5. With Kubuntu 10.04 update worked like a charm with the instructions linked above. Note, however that One Click Flasher will erase everything, so backup if you already have some important data on device! I'm curious about the leaked firmware, too. Any comments about it would be appreciated much! |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
It's great to see that everything goes OK, please keep me posted by PM if anyone has problems receiving his device.

For anyone trying to flash your N950, make sure it's at 100%. |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Sorry to hear about problems on update :( Hopefully the new battery will resolve the problem.
It is indeed important, that the battery is fully charged before update. |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
AND DON'T UPDATE YOUR N950 OTA from the pre-release firmware (the one with developer edition all over the place)
It won't do anything irreversible, but it will save you a lot of frustration because many people (including me) reported non-bootable device after OTA upgrade. |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Yes, one click flasher and so on is a way to go. OTA from pre-release always result in bootloop.

So thanks for the device, this will turn out to be more fun than I thought :) |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
With one click flasher problems this page might be helpfull (at least with erasing problems): http://intohand.com/post.php?s=2011-...-23rd-oct-2011
As always, you are solely responsible for your actions, so think before you type and hit enter  I wish all of you best of luck with N950 updates! |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
But prelease with "Developer Edition" looks so cute, I am not going to flash ;)
Is there a reason why everybody links the 39-5 (PR1.1) firmware OCF? Why not directly flash officialPR1.2 (02-6) from http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/release/N950/firmware or PR1.3 with that flasher version? One more nice "official" link: http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...roubleshooting ( found from http://www.developer.nokia.com/searc...e/?k=n950&l=50 ) more hard to find  http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/relea...s_v39_5_en.txt http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/relea..._v02-6_en.html |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
I am loving the N950 so far. What a great interface. I just learned I'll be doing some international travel soon. No way I will travel with N950, so I'm going to buy an N9 so I have that too!
