Tis pure speculation at this point, it might not even be the Jolla phone, see this exchange

you can't know for sure, they only saw the back of the device while it was being held in the hand, determining screen size is just silly

Are there any pictures or videos? :D
I think the color orange makes the phone look bigger as it is :) I hope it won't be an other 'phablet'.

Thx, but my concern was about the screen size. 5 inch was made up?

Jukka made reference about teasing devices and a preference for orange via twitter. Seems that colour options may be a part of the package?

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

They've said in recent interviews that it's not going to be competing with top-end phones currently on the market specs wise*, so I'm not expecting it to be exciting in that area.
It's supposedly going to be "lower top-end", whatever that means, but I hope it has at least one or two unique or top-end hw features.

*so it may be slightly cheaper

Given that big news sites like Engadget often put a emphasis on catchy headlines/stories rather than substance, then yes, I'd say it's made-up & has no basis in knowledge.
But if they're right, then they get to look like they knew what they were talking about, win win for them...

Left Jolla but not the entire project, still involved in the Sailfish side of things last I heard...
If they want to have a hope of attracting others, then there has to be a clear separation between Jolla & Sailfish.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

Now a days. a size single phone cannot satisfy all people. I like the size of N9, but I am kind of tired of looking at the tiny fonts (getting old!). To carry around and for the look 4" probably is the best. Bigger size screens, maybe 4.8"-5" will make it more usable, though it may not look that hot anymore.

They need to come out with 2 or 3 versions plus 1 with keyboard for some of the Jolla fans here who can't live with out it. I was like them while I was using N900, but I don't miss it anymore.

Less than 5"
The color is Orange :P

BUT speculation, speculation, speculation

we does NOT KNOW for sure. REPEAT THIS:

we does not know yet!

AGAIN:

WE DOES NOT KNOW YET!

Dont be dissapointed
Don't be happy
Don't be unhappy
Don't cry about no hwkbd
Don't cry about only hwkbd
Don't cry about cause it only has NO touchscreen

If (colour == orange)
Max price for clown phone < 200 Euro
Else
Initiate big failure followed by big explosion.

For those of us with little Italian, here's the computer-translated part of the interview discussing Sailfish Phone's (upper mid-tier?) positioning and its distribution plan:

"TN -A which markets and which groups of devices bet?
SM : We are a small company and we now focus on a medium- high -end device . We are not interested , for the moment, to create low-end terminals or high-end .
The first market that will see a terminal Sailfish will be Finnish, whereas we have about 5 million fans. After that will be released in China and later in Europe , although there is still no clarity on how it will happen marketing where through telephone operators or through the online sale .
As for the times, in the second half of 2013 we will begin to provide the first two markets , Finland and China.
However, the project has finished the times are related to agreements with operators, we have seen that there is much interest . Then it is obvious that we have to see how this interest will materialize ."

shmerl 2013-05-08 16:20

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

I hope the color of the first device won't be orange, and it won't be a huge wide monster. Width is a critical ergonomic parameter, and many modern handsets are way too wide. Width of the N9 is about right: 61.2mm (2.41").

Regarding low-high end, I hope it at least has a dual core CPU. Single core would fall into high-low end rather than low-high one.

The interview didn't really reveal any details, except that he mentioned that Sailfish is open source. I hope he really meant it (except Android and similar 3rd party stuff of course).

Lol.. I thought there will be a way to get a Jolla Phone worldwide.. although they don't know it by now but the (early bird) release is in ~12 days and they should know how to provide it now... unorganised..

In the good case there will be a way. Nokia officially didn't target US and some parts of Europe, but you still could get N9 there through on-line retailers. Jolla might mean they won't set up logistics except for Finland and China first, but it doesn't mean the handset won't be available at all through third party stores like Newegg or Amazon.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

Yea that's true and it's an option but Jolla should finally know how to provide it and not tell (somewhat) different things at every interview. :D

Agreed, but you know there'll be a pile of people whining if there's no official Whatsapp support, as with the N9...

Got word last night (GMT +10) via twitter form @JollaHQ that they will be ensuring Jolla devices will be available worldwide.
Also suggested that the community can help by making local dealers and operators aware that there is a demand via requests/emails etc.

Have already activated "serial pest" mode with local Aus operators. :D

This is why I'm so glad they have a Dalvik implementation. They can sidestep many of the problems Maemo & MeeGo had with not providing proprietary apps.
