Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
Quick questions for Qole, does the speed/quality of the SD card where Debian is installed affect the overall performance?
If I start over with a SDHC class 6 card would I notice a difference? Would it prevent the browser crashes? |
Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
I have noticed that the SD card can make a huge difference to stability; some cards just aren't very reliable, and they can corrupt my data badly.
I can't comment on speed since I only use SDHC Class 6 cards and so I have nothing to compare with. |

Well I'm here to report that there is a huge difference with Debian performance using SDHC class 6 cards compared to slower SD cards. Anyone having issues should try changing to a faster card it sure solved alot of my crashing issues..Maybe Qole you can update your first post with a recommendation to try faster cards?

qole-
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster here. Just had to chime in and say thanks for all of your hard work on this! I'm also following the "LXDE as desktop replacement" thread with great interest. -X |
Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
I admit I'm not really familiar to chrooting issues so I've got maybe trivial question that's not so for me.
I try to build Elmer (written mostly in Fortran) FEM software within easy-debian and I realised that I dont know where to install compiled application - what location should I point installer to install this within debian image? df -h in debian shows only "/sys" and in /debian - looks like internal rootfs structure. |
Cannot Create the Debian Image File
When installing the "easy debian without the apps", do you need to install first the "debian chroot app" from the repository first? I tried the "without apps" without installing "debian chroot app" and I could not get the image file to work - it always ended with an error concerning permissions (could not set the permissions to 661). Also, the files in the "insmod" commands in /lib/modules could not be found (they aren't there). So I'm more than a bit confused. I previously tried installing the whole turbo thing from the repository and creating all the apps (onto my internal memory mmc2) but this did not work (nothing would ever run). I have my N810 set up to boot from an 8GB SDHC external card. I would like to get at least the minimal system working so I could try to install R.

Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
R-base is 155 megs from the repos - then there are several additional pkgs you could need. But when I was messing with puppy linux, the core needed some 22 megs only, I seem to remind.
