Re: [iPhone4] Loses Reception When You Touch the Side (Who says Apple products are "Better Quality"?)
Or... you can sell it for 1.5x-2x of what you paid for on Ebay.

"1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy -- your tone when delivering this information is important.
a. The iPhone 4's wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4's overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS. b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world. c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand. d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band. e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas. 2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns. 3. Don't forget YOU STILL NEED to probe and troubleshoot. If a customer calls about their reception while the phone is sitting on a table (not being held) it is not the metal band. 4. ONLY escalate if the issue exists when the phone is not held AND you cannot resolve it. 5. We ARE NOT appeasing customers with free bumpers -- DON'T promise a free bumper to customers." OUCH! This really does read like damage control! All the PR in the world won't change the fact that this phone is very sensitive to hand position. I think they would be smart to cut their losses and offer plain-jane bumpers to any owner that requests them. It would do a lot to restore trust in the company. I have been obfuscated and outright lied to by a big Tech company before. Result? I have spread the word to my friends and never purchased their product again! |

Where is the BaseBand software fix that was promised early this week to fix this problem?

Re: [iPhone4] Loses Reception When You Touch the Side (Who says Apple products are "Better Quality"?)
I don't know if this was mentioned before, but Apple's prototypes for outdoors testing were disguised as 3GS' which means the metal band never came into contact with the users hand. This is probably why they didn't notice it before.

As for the mms thing, the N900 when launched specifically did not list MMS as a feature. It was noticeably missing in the long list of things the web page said it did do, and many people here noticed it and asked about it long before it shipped. Last I looked, Apple did indicate in their "new features" list that the phone could make calls, and had "better wireless reception than the 3GS". Losing that because of holding the device in a way many many people will commonly hold it is IMHO a rather massive fail. If I owned an iPhone4 would I take it back to them and insist they fix it? Probably not. I would ask for a reasonable solution at little/no cost, and be disappointed if the only option given was to buy another iItem for >$20 to fix the busted iItem I had. But then that's just one more reason I don't own any iItems.... The real thing here is that yes, sure, there are Nokia fanboys, on a forum about Nokia devices. That's not suprising to me. But finding an iPhone fanboy here is a little surprising. Are there Nokia fanboys on forums about iPhones? (Are there forums about iPhones?) In any case... If you shout from the rooftops what a wonderful device you have, and how it's spectacular, and hold a trade show gloating about it, be ready to take it in the gut if it's got a majorly glaring design flaw. Nokia wasn't exactly holding a world press gathering to unveil the N900. Apple had a special event just for the iPhone 4. |

Ok, with the uncovering of this latest evidence, I think it's pretty clear what went wrong to cause the iPhone 4's antenna debacle...

Re: [iPhone4] Loses Reception When You Touch the Side (Who says Apple products are "Better Quality"?)
if you would look a little over your maemo side you would know that it seems to be a Problem with iOS4 and not all Hardware related so i guess Apple will give 4.01 soon to there Community .. as they always do.
But its okay if your N900 is full bugs like mine and you cant test the Meego becouse its not installable as a Release for the N900 then i understand why to lough sarcastic over the Iphone4 "Problems".. (sorry iam just pissed..) |
