No. Because he didn't want to pay over and over again for updates.

Wrong.
He want's the people to buy apps'n'games via the appstore to get his 30% fee on every sold app.
Including Flash would partly prevent that.
For example I'm using a photoshop like flash application on my N900 and a Poker-game and a Blackjack-game, too.

noo... your first assumption is right. he wants to be alone and one in world of mobile (apple) techs, so he can continue to dictate rules his fanbois religiously follows.

* Flash a bootloader to kernel area.
* Write a MeeGo image to microsd.
* If microsd is inserted at boot, MeeGo starts
* If not, Maemo starts.

.. is that easy enough?

YEAH for me!!!

I think, regarding all those news, what really (only) gives me some hope is this:

There is also a possibility of developing applications supporting both operating systems, based on Qt and Qt Mobility APIs on the Maemo side. It means that you can develop once in PC with Qt Creator, and test your applications on both Maemo and MeeGo, directly on your N900 device!
So, we will have more apps in our maemo/n900, thanks to the meego developers.

Although that is better than the current method of requiring a separate PC on which to run flasher whenever you wish to boot into MeeGo, it would be a bit awkward having to insert/remove the SD card to change which OS to boot, because of its position under the battery. Could there be a way of choosing with a menu or holding down a key while booting, or something?

So... this should allow native MMS support right? They're using the latest Linux kernel after all.

The way Stskeeps describes is what currently available with u-boot.

It is easy to configure u-boot to always boot into maemo, and in order to boot a kernel from SD (or internal mmc partition) you need to press a key during u-boot to halt automatic boot, and run a command.

What N900 you got? The sd card is not under the battery on mine......... (sorry, couldn't resist that)

Ah yes, you're right! Whoops. I was thinking of the SIM card.

Still, a menu or keypress would be preferable than having to remove the card, even if the card is not as hard to reach as I thought (Matan's post suggests that this should be possible, so that's fine). I wince every time I remove the back cover due to the noise it makes - I keep thinking I'm going to break it!
