This epic campaign closing in on another world record but the overall speed is to low ATM to reach the ultimate goal.
Check out the campaign over here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge/x/4036946

Even if it doesn't succeed it provides publicity for Canonical and Ubuntu Touch. Hopefully Ubuntu Touch is itself successful because then it will bring people to the desktop and if popular enough it will bring native Linux drivers for Mobile on top of being a truly open platform unlike the rest.

Agree railroadmaster, this has been a brilliant marketing move in my view. I would love the campaign to suceed but at this stage I really doubt it.
Anyway phones with that specs will come surely in 2014 so as soon as one can sideload or even better dual boot Ubuntu OS people are good to go

maybe the reason they made super high end specs and crazy money goal IS to get publicity. then more support for linux maybe?

Not that I would know much about leadership, but:
Lots of mistakes == bad leadership
in my basic way of thinking.

And what constitutes 'mistakes' at this point?

They're blazing through uncharted water here. There is no 'text book play' to follow on this case. What I'm seeing is that they keep trying out new patterns to break through the market in the short time that they've been in play and they're still racking the general mindshare which is usable for the future, even if they don't reach their goal.

Good leadership is not about not making mistakes. It's about making the best of (inevitable) mistakes and to keep trying so they leave a success story when all's said and done.

I agree it depends on the way you look at it. I won't presume to know how to set up a project like the Edge.

Still the original pricepoints appeared to be a mistake for example.

its not that simple to get manufactors to release open drivers or specs.

If that ubuntu phone releases full open source its probadly X86 HW only because Intel is the only company who may have open GFX drivers...

edit: whoops I guess thats why they name it edge:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/...platforms.html

That means Canonical also will include a fan for free to your ubuntu phone ;)
