i have the same problem. highways are fine but city center is uncool. there is a flag in setting.ini that you change that will fix some of the delay/lag. dont remember what flag and havent tried it yet.

so are there anu updates as of yet for maemo version? appreciate that you can ignore those idiots and see that there are many that support the software...hurryup with the repo :)

Another question,

Refering the manual there is an icon where you can adjust the volume in the settings stated as here:
Volume settings:
Set the sound intensity separately for low driving speed and for high speeds. I have not found this icon in the setttings. Anybody knows where I can enter this setting? Sound on/off icon is ok.

Hmmm... now I need to check it while driving, but it seems my external Holux BT236 is MUCH more accurate, which might have an influence while driving.

--edit--

I am, of course, trying to solve the lagging issue - I have a feeling that there is not config settings changes that can help it, but... let's see!

@Jaco2k - so you have actually tested that Sygic works when you set the N900 to use an external BT GPS? If so then I'm ready with my CC, Sygic folks :) zehjotkha's videos convinced me about the rest.

Yes, it does work - you pair the N900 and then just use Sygic normally. You cannot change it in Sygic though...

Setting

Code:

menu.main.gpsStatus=1
in menu.ini will enable a "GPS Status" option on the menu.

Hi All,
Sygic repository is available! There is no update, only actual version of SetupMobileMaps.deb file.
You can add this repository to your Application Manager:
Catalogue name: Sygic
Web address: http://repository.sygic.com/maemo/
Components: non-free

- yes, you can expect auto rotate
- it's not possible to set portrait mode when app is launched. But you can enable app screen rotation button in menu.ini or you can set a key for this rotation in keymap.ini file.

sorted it ...just navigate to res, skins. then open application file with note pad or a text editor.

Then control and F = find and type in menu.main.exit

it will then search and should come up with 2 instances of the above text. all i did was then copy the first instance and paste further up in the "menu" section and swapped one over to its old place-if that makes sense and then save.

restarted sygic and now have exit button on front page!

infact got carried away and moved several other buttons too..lol

there was "update"(it weights 2.11MB) in repository that should free space on phone by 100 MB and make Sygic have less MB. I Downloaded it, installed - now sygic weigh 4,5 MB and it won't start. Now repository is offline, i cant refresh it :(

anyone know what to do ?

Sygic's support says they will update existing customers to Mobile Maps 10, for free.

Is there much difference between version 9 and version 10 maps, and if version 10 is out already is there a specific technical reason why 10 isnt availble now for the n900

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Hi all,

it is a pleasure to follow your discussion!

Apologies to everyone for delaying the release. We had the app ready back in December, but despite fantastic support from Nokia, it proved to be difficult to get the app into Ovi Store.

Few points:

We will extend regional coverage in coming days with new region in every 2 or 3 days.

We will provide free app updates in the future. Please keep your suggestions coming and contribute to the experience of all app users.

Mobile Maps 10 brings optional connected features like real-time traffic and speed camera sharing / crowdsourcing, support for touchscreen gestures, navigation to addresses stored in phone's Contacts, redesigned look and more.

Re fullscreen mode: we only use fullscreen mode on all devices. However, Ovi Store requirement is that it shall be easy for the user to switch to other apps. Implementing toggle buttons is unfortunately not feasible at the moment due to multi-platform core of Mobile Maps. Multi-platform design will help us to get quickly to MeeGo. We are happy that you found a number of ways how get the app running in fulscreen mode :)

Re automatic rotation: the issue is linked to non-fullscreen mode because when rotating the app, we would also need to rotate the taskbar. We are working to fix it.

Re position lag: the key thing here is of course sensitivity of the internal GPS receiver. More accurate position display often results in poor road magnetism. We are looking at ways how to further optimize the performance to the N900's GPS.

Thank you.

Sygic Support.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

Quick question but does Sygic use network positioning at all?

I've noticed that compared to the built in OVI maps it takes much longer to actually find the GPS position - coarse or granular.

I am in the US and have supl.google.com as the network positioning in the devices settings for AGPS and it is enabled.

yes, it should be using AGPS, because this is a function of the N900, not of a specific program.
I've the nokia supl server and it works perfectly. Fix under 5 seconds in my house.

if you have this map files - make dir Maps/ROM paste them there, and make mlm file ROM.mlm and use date from your older version map and remember to paste your license file to Maps folder ;)

I just did. The only thing was that I wrote in the ROM.mlm file just [ROM] like usually did in the oldest version 7.60. And the message in the scren is that no maps are loaded.

In other way. The old Romania maps (the ones working in 7.60) are made by Allview and the ones from 7.71 are made by Navteq. That should be a problem?

has anyone been succesful at downloading the USA version?

on moth my laptop and desktop, the links in the email are blocked.

then when trying the links on my n900, it started downloading. 4.5 hours later, i am only at 47%

i have sent 4 email, with not 1 return by a human, only showing that they "read" the message, and 1 auto-response.

:/

To SygicSupport,
I would just like to publicly thank your company for taking the risk to develop your program for an emerging platform such as this and wish great returns on investment. I have a Garmin nuvi 265WT now, but count me 60% sold on the product.

Now, a question: How do map updates work? How much would each one cost?

ceroberts75 2010-03-21 00:06

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

i believe that map updates are included, if i remember reading that on the sygic website.

as for the 60% sold...

i have had to pay fo rthis 2 times, with no support yet, and an inablility to download thier software on 3 different computers and it has been over 5 hours now at only 49% downloading it to my n900 directly.

:/ i have to admit, i was a bit excited. but know for sure they will be refunding one license if not both regardless of thier refund policy.
