I used my newly reflashed n900.

I download :
kernel-power_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb
kernel-power-modules_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb
kernel-power-flasher_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb

Install in the same sequence
Complete shoutdown.
Boot work.
Dowload :kernel-power-settings_0.12_armel.deb
install
Complete shutdown
No boot... :( the screen still black...
Solved with reflash.

:( any way to fix?

Same situation :(

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

I try to unpack kernel-power-settings v12 and v11

Code:

v11
 - data.tar
    |
    - .      (directory with '.' name without quotes)
        |
        - usr
        - etc

v12
 - data.tar
      |
      - usr
      - etc

Maybe this disturbs the installation?

Sorry for my bad english I'm italian

@vento and radcalz

What about kernel-power-headers and bootimg?
Have you tried to install all packages and then rebooting?

dpkg -i kernel-power_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-modules_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-headers_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-flasher_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-settings_0.12_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-bootimg_1:2.6.28-10power48_armel.deb

Uh no.. I didn't install headers because its not necessary... I'm not gonna compile anything on my device anyways. Also didn't install bootimg as I don't have nitdroid nor multiboot installed.

Hi qole! I don't know but I got mine working on v47 last time. I just forgot whether it was fcam from repositories or it's the fcam drivers from BFS kernel thread.

Simple question, is there someone with only kernel-power, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-flasher and kernel-power-settigs installed (no kernel-power-headers and kernel-power-bootimg) with a working phone (at least the boot)

sorry for my bad english

Yes, that what I used. I tried to install them all together with dpkg -i *.deb but got a message about flasher being the wrong version, so I installed it alone (without rebooting or anything fancy) and have been running great ever since.

Suggestion: Do whatever you did again and watch the screen carefully for error messages. If you accidentally use the wrong version of flasher you will end up having to reflash.

I'm using kp47, without any problems with fCam drivers, installed long time ago (in kp46-wl1 times). Did not even need to reinstall fCam, everything worked out of the box after installing kp47. No idea what's the difference, that make it fail for so many people, including You.

As I recall, special Fcam drivers were created in the days of overclocking and Titan. There was a thread dedicated to the subject and I found the link to the drivers there. I assumed the fix had been assimilated into the current Fcam drivers by now. I'm not having problems with Fcam.

Do you guys have /etc/default/kernel-power files?

Move it out of the way before you install. You probably have too aggressive of overclocking set.

I just installed the v48 debs (including kernel-power-settings). No problems after a reboot. The phone is working normally.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Sorry.... But I don't know where I'm wrong...

I start with a clean N900, just flashed.
To be the root I use rootsh v1.8 or R&D mode (in booth cases power-kernel don't work with settings).
Move kernel-power, kernel-power-modules and kernel-power-flasher in the phone.
Install in this sequence (in X-Terminal) :
- kernel-power
- kernel-power-modules
- kernel-power-flasher
Remove usb.
Complete shutdown.
Power up.
Nokia Logo.
Phone work correctly!
Download and install kernel-power-settings (in Xterminal).
Complete shutdown.
Power up.
Nokia Logo.
The screen remains black.

I try to install also the headers and bootimg but the result is the same.

Sorry for my bad english, I'm italian.

@zurrain101,

Sorry if I don't keep this whole thread in my head.. but what exactly do you expect from v48 as opposed to, say, v47?

Cheers.

I observed it too.
Before I can install v48. (upgrade from v47), but after I do a clean reflash directly, I install v48 directly, same situation as you happened.
Now I try to install v47 first, then install v48 again, see whether is ok or not.

It's a problem with the power-kernel-settings obviously... Something change from v11 to v12 but I don't know what...

successfully...with upgrade from v47 to v48, setting from 1.1 to 1.2, if directly install v48 and setting 1.2, not ok, black display after boot up

pali 2011-07-19 19:47

So if you doing upgrade all is ok and if you install directly there is error?

I do a EMMC and firmware reflashed, then I install v48 and setting1.2 directly, after reboot, black display showed.

Then I reflashed again, I install v47 and setting 1.1 firstly, after that reboot, and then upgrade to v48 and 1.2, reboot, successful.

It is not obviously kernel power settings. Plenty of people have reported a sucessful upgrade.

God knows what semi broken, half-installed nitroid multiboot mess you have lying all over your rootfs.

If you want the change log go look it up on garage. If you don't know how to do that then stay way from this 'too freakin volatile even for dev repo's' package and just wait for it to trickle down.

I try to install only v48 without upgrade from v47 and wihout settings and the phone boot and work but if I install settings v12 (no upgrading from v11) and the phone no boot up.... So the problem is only in power-kernel-settings v12 (I think)....or maybe something in power-kernel v48 is miss...

ok, ok, sorry....Maybe it's the settings.... However I don't use multiboot

pali 2011-07-19 20:19

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

So problem must be in preinst/postinst scripts in package kernel-power, kernel-power-modules or kernel-power-flasher.

There are really no relevant changes in kernel-power-settings package.

Radicalz38 2011-07-20 00:23

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Yes probably not in the settings since I for example even if I don't install settings as long as its kernel power v48 it really won't boot. Only difference is
w/ settings = stuck at black screen
w/out settings = reboot loop

When is it available in the repositories to be installed from HAM and FAM?

Thanks for the great work of everyone involved.

thank you very much for your hard effor pali, i will wait for it to be in the HAM

btw, ive read some pages, but i havent seen anyone talk about the 720p patch, does it work?

and for what is it? to take video? or just to play it

sorry if i missed the page

cheers

pali 2011-07-20 20:04

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

for 720p playback you need:
* kernel driver (for communication with HW)
* TI DSP baseimage
* TI DSP libraries
* gstreamer libraries
* user video playback application

So only first step is done for 720p. and TI work is closed...

Estel 2011-07-20 20:05

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

720p patch is first kernel-side only attempt to bring recording (more important) and viewing (less important, due to resolution of N900 screen and lack of DVI video output) of 720p videos.

Still, it *don't* work just by installing kernel. Much effort is still needed to bring user-side (aka userland) parts to state of supporting it. So, this way, when we have kernel-side ready, developers may start working on and reliably debugging userland side.

=
It's just first (very big) step, and You still must wait for it.

// Edit

Haha, little too late.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

IIRC to play 720p video, you'll need a new dspbridge and some other files. Both can be obtained from the Internet at large, and the latter -- probably never from TMO due to certain redistribution issues.

On a side note, has anyone got 720p playing under Maemo? Which H.264 profile?
