yes, that's it. But it is pulling in sailfish terminology...

Plugged my jolla into my mac. It must be detected because dropbox pops up and offers to upload my photos.

But the phone and the micro SD don't appear in finder. That's a lot of a problem as my music is all in itunes on the mac

Is there any way to see the SD card in the phone - not seen a file manager in the Jolla store, so assume I need an android one

Suggestions for accessing the SD card from the mac would be welcome - I want to get some use from the music app:-)

Can anyone please verify whether idle XMPP usage (just being on-line) drains battery excessively or not? Preferably, use any server besides Google's. For a test it's enough to keep the status on-line all the time and see see how it affects the battery life.

Also, does Jitsi for Android work for XMPP/Jingle video/audio calls?

Good question, can somebody test ("sideload") an Android 3D game that relies in .obb fles? Does it work?
Another one, what about buying paid content in the Google Play store?

How's the Yandex store? Any deficiencies in that store? I know the original Google Apps are largely missing, but any other notable exceptions?

My windows 7 PC sees the phone but not the SD card. The only way I get stuff onto that is to mount it in a card reader.

Netflix and Yle Areena (notable for Finns) missing. Both are VoD/streaming services. I have contacted both Netflix and Yle. After talking with Netflix I also contacted Jolla about getting Netflix Android app for Jolla. Yle hasn't yet replied anything.

Yandex.Store app has worked fine except two problems: 1) there was probably some kind of resource exhaustion which was crashing/killing the app. I was able to resolve that by closing all other running apps. Haven't seen it since. 2) mobile data connection problem. You have to use temporarily WLAN to fix it. Based on comments on this thread, this problem can be seen also on other Android apps.

Search doesn't necessarily show the most relevant result in the top.

In Terminal app run commands:

cd
ln -s /run/user/100000/media/sdcard .

(Notice the dot at the end of ln) After that you can access the microSD card with USB MTP (Jolla's normal PC connectivity) by going to directory "sdcard".

WFM. No warranty :)

Edit: (And you probably can escape to the root directory of Jolla by similar commands but I haven't tested this. There is danger that you can brick your Jolla with escaping to root and then going around and fiddling, especially if the permissions and priviledges are not right.)

just search for "private exchange hosting" for example. maybe you are lucky and your internet-provider even offers such a service for his customers included in the price.
i use this, for example: https://sync.t-online.de/
it's your own private exchange account, so it should do all you want and be usable on Jolla.

maybe there are no absolutely cost-free services out there, but i don't understand, why everybody thinks, an email account should always be cost-free anyway...

Saw that on your blog. looks like Mac isn't supported without resorting to command line just yet.

If I start with a completely fresh formatted SD card, where do I need to put music? Unfortunately all mine is in itunes on my mac, so not many alternatives

Put it where you want as the Phone will scan the card for all media contenst and catagorise according to tags.

The backups seem to be in .vault directory in nemo user's home directory. It seems to be some kind of Git based solution (similar to git-annex).

Yeas, the store it self work for me and I have rebooted the device.

Any hints?

My problem exactly. From the day one haven't been able to use the Ambiances from both of TOHs.
They install, and show in My apps, but are not usable in Ambiances. Tried uninstalling, and rebooting many tmes. Also Store works, and have jolla-account.
I made service request (at jolla.zendesk.com) of this on 1st of Dec, but no reply from Jolla as of yet.

Seems Apple does not support most standard USB gadgets. Horndis (http://joshuawise.com/horndis) can be used to get access to the developer mode rndis network. So you can copy stuff over with scp/sftp. MTP however seems to be a total disaster. It seems the last incarnation of OS X also broke the Android/Google MTP app that might work.

Quick test of browser opening speed Jolla vs N9

Opening that same page (screen bookmark on the N9 and Last opened Page on the Jolla)
On a decent LAN opening the same page with no other apps open
Jolla 17secs : N9 20secs
Not particularly scientific but it does bear our my impression that the Jolla is a lot quicker and smoother in general usage.

Is it necessary to fiddle with usb to get to the filesystem? Isn't it possible to simply scp over wlan?

I had a different problem in that ONLY the TOH ambiences were showing and I lost the stock ones, which I prefer, in particular Grassroot.

The only way I got them back was a full reset!

If you have developer mode and remote ssh enabled, you can use ssh/scp/sftp.

I have same issue. Phone doesn't seem to recognise the other half.it has installed the white ambience, so must have recognised it once. That said I can't find it anywhere to activate it (though I admit I haven't tried hard)

Yes I saw that. I *can* do command line, but I'd really prefer not to have to as I'm now hugely behind with work due to an excursion to Finland:-)

Go to Gallery app. Select Ambience. Select an ambience and tap star to fill it and then tap save (or go forward by pulling to the left).

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

Ok, now I am beginning with paranoia questions. Let's begin with the browser:
does about:config work and is it possible to create/edit (new) entries?

I am thinking of setting all sequrity.ssl3.*rc4* settings to false, security.tls.version.max to 3 (tls 1.2), security.tls.version.min to 1 (disable sslv3) - look at an actual desktop firefox's about:config to know what I mean.

These parameters are working on firefox desktop and android (!) to be more crypto-stable. Because we have a 25/26 xul engine it should work on Jolla too if the parameters can be set (true?)

Does anyone tried to insert the root certs of https://cacert.org? (or are they actual in the cert store?) What is the workflow to do this? Can I see/edit my trustcenter certs stored in the cert stack of the device and the browser?

@Jolla-guys: When working on caldav/carddav/webdav: Please think about a working https-implementation and TLS/SNI working! There is a new free Carddav/Caldav implementation (DAVdroid) on Android and it took months to let the programmer think about SNI and he had problems to implement it because the os api had no way to do it. Why not just implement it at the beginning...

This Remote Multidrive is my preferred quick way to access any map from any PC for simple file transfer.

I use it on Symbian though but notice it exists for Android http://cn.appszoom.com/android_appli...ive_gajjy.html

It says only the SD Card is writable.

As a loyal customer I will write demand the developer to port the application , why not?

This email is a service from Jolla Service and Support.

;)

Hi, and good for you that you have got response to your requests. I have used jolla.zendesk.com to make three requests and have had no reply from them. Now, it's already 5 days since I made the first on and still they have not even assigned them.

Another comment relates to setting up Google account, and I must say that even if you configure it corretly and you get emails and contacts synced, no calendars appear to Calendar app. And there is no way to setup external Calendars (cause there is no CalDav support).

Maybe there has been a lots of requets lately, and they do not have enough resources to reply to all. Still I hope that customer service would respond more prompty - five days wait to be acknowledged is a long time IMHO.

Cheers, and have a great day ;)

Yeah that's well known, but in one of his recent interviews Stefano(?) intimated that they didn't even "try" to have discussions with them.
They just ruled-it-out automatically, that seems wildly irresponsible to me...

No, I think it is very responsible of them to not let Google tie their hands. Besides, IMHO the whole point of Jolla is to promote SailfishOS and thus the Android compatibility is just a workaround for the initial phase to have some apps in the "store" .. Somethng that ppl might be wanting, but for which native QT/QML implementation does not yet exist.

It is there but it is not usable due UI problems. For example you cannot scroll the view and tapping on the entries is very difficult.

I think it might be easier to shutdown the browser. Start Terminal app and then edit file /home/nemo/.mozilla/mozembed/prefs.js with text editor. At least there is vi editor, and on package repositories there seems to be nano (pkcon install nano). I haven't tested this so it is all theory.

Yup, seems to be the best way for it. Same with self built search engines. Put the xml to ....mozembed/searchengines and be lucky ;) Let's see...
