This t-shirt alone justifies all the sweat you put into that project. Thanks Rauha.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

Dirkvl, could you provide corresponding solid model files (non-stl files) for those models which are currently at GitHub? Editing those stl files is a bit PITA.

For example the magnet hole diameters are about 0,2-0,3 mm too small and about 0,4-0,5 mm has to be cut off from other places to be able to fit the board inside the casing. The casing model required also about 1 % downscaling so that it doesn't drop off when attached and some other small modifications at least when printed with my 3d printer.

Yes I know. It sucks big time. But again, these are optimized for Shapeways, You're most likely better off using those as a guide to make a regular printer compatible version. But still...

Preparing for MWC and other projects has taken a bit of my time the last weeks, so have not been able to push as many files to the github as I wanted and have to send some kickstarter updates also and instructions to the people that got diy's and proto's. as well as discussing with china and korea about production.

Busy buys busy busy.

Anyway: before i can push a lot of files to github i have to fix some licencing issues, which is going slower than planned. My priority list is a bit flooding atm, but after mwc there should be some calmer waters for me and i have time for this again.

Also, production of the final keypads has not started yet, due to chinese festival. I hope this will not cause significant delays as I have no clue how long they need for 1500 pcs, Maybe it'll all go well and all is on schedule, if not: you are the first to know.

Long story short: it's a long story.

at the moment, autocomplete is disabled when using tohkbd. But it shows the clipboard-line on screen. You can use shift-arrows to select, ctrl-c, ctrl-v to copypaste. or tap the clipboard icon to paste.

It might be possible to get autocomplete working, but then we need to register tohkbd as "language" or something to xt9 :) I did some experiments, but it was working "only sometimes".

I thought that was already possible in 2009 (Nokia N900). Where has the time been? I'll be so glad to FINALLY type propelry again. You see, it's not possible to type porperly on a onscreen keyboard. D*mnit! Pr0perly. Proper1y. Fffffuuuuuu....

Please let the autocomplete be completely disabled :D

I have a hunch the system learns new words, which is somewhat bad with colloquial Finnish, or when I don't bother changing the language when I text in Swedish. The only semi-valid use case I've found for it is in English, as its grammar is much better for autocompletion.

But when using a physical keyboard, imo all of that should be turned off.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

Okay, after a long and awesome MWC it is time to get back to work!

But first: some quotes:
"Good thing we didn't say to them we blinded copied the design, that guy was from Samsung!"
To a guy with an iphone 6 in his hands: "Wow, the new Samsung galaxy!"
at the Acer stand "would you guys like a demo" (of a mid-range android slab?) "ehhh, no thanks"
"Blackberry?? More like SamBerry!"
At the Samsung presentation: "Now onto accessories: we have amazing coloured and transparent protective casings!" (#trueinnovation)
"Or just engrave full fricking Hindi on your keyboard. Whatever!"
At any random other stand: "Wow, can you put that on my phone??"
"Excuse me sir, are you familiar with JollaOtherHalf concept? Its crazy"
On an actual stand: "Transform Ubiquitous Coverage into Reality!" <- ehhh What?!
"Every other phone is just a boring black slab with Android on it" - "Well, my Blackberry has a keyboard and yours don't" - "Ehhh *pulls out TOHKBD* SHABOOYA!"

What is going on now:

- Waiting on new batch of test-domesheets because of some small issues in first version

- The keypress on the current keypads is way too hard, while we want it to be perfect. So we will take an extra iteration step where the flexible membrane mold is drilled out to make the pins under the keys pressing the domes a bit (0.8mm) longer. This will put the keys under tension in default state -making the keypress lighter- and removes the squeezing of the flexible membrane around the domes what will also make it lighter and more consistent.

- Some small adjustments to the backlight led placements to make the light spread more even. No extra iteration needed, but in case you saw pics with the bright light in the middle: that will change.

- Instructions for DIY'ers and prototypes are still overdue because of MWC preparations. When all above is fixed this is next on the high-priority list.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

I hope auto-complete would not be completely disabled and that it would be available just as a bottom row of the screen, and by pressing enter on the keyboard we can select the highlighted word, or tap the screen to select any other word.

This is useful if you need to write in a language which you do not know completely and even though you can get the grammar right, the spelling is quite a bit more complicated, such as French for many English-speaking learners.

Ideally, the autocomplete could be turned on or off in the settings to appease both those that don't find it helpful, and those that find it helpful.

or binded to ALT or whatever, why not increase your typing speed!?

but don't know if this is possible, other stuff needs to be fixed first

Dirk, could it be that creep (slow deformation of material under tension) could cause the effect to reduce over time?

Wearing down maybe, creep no.

But we are talking only 0.3mm on a pretty wide pin (relatively), wouldn't worry too much about it. (trust me iz engineer)

new domesheets are here. fit perfect, no errors this time fortunately :)

waiting on keypad demo pieces with longer legs -for softer keypress- like mentioned in last kickstarter update, no eta yet..

setting up the workplace this week for keyboard pcb production, hope they arrive soon too..

lastucase backplates are all here by the way, box smells really nice :D

Yah don't see black there. Ordered trough the site around the end of the kckstarter, and Black was available there back then.

I have some issues with the inside tolerances on the black cover, which results in a lot of extra labour, which i want to minimize.

also, there are too many people going for black-on-black-on-black-on-black-on-black. be a bit more Unlike, you can do it! ;)

Can still the users change the colours sent to you ? Do you want some black-black user choices to change ? If so, what is the prefered way to contact you about the colour change ?

Re: TOHKBD rev2

How is black different from the other colors? I thought it always is white material painted in the desired color after 3D-printing?

I choose an orange other half, so the issue doesn't concern my other half, but I did choose a black keyboard, so I always feared the black paint will wear of showing the white underneath.
Black being printed with black material would be great news.

GizmoSmith 2015-03-24 09:10

Re: TOHKBD rev2

Well then, I was dreaming:D about having a bulky external battery pack, that could use the same 6 contact pads & the alignment cavities of the TOHKBD2 back cover..
so that we could magnetically snap-in either the KBD or the battery (or possibly both with some clever design)
Well it is just a dream.. (haven't thought about technical feasibility/electronics/software issues/TOH stacking nightmares etc).
Something like the Power Half taking up the form factor of the snap-in keyboard(except for the bulk, so that we can have more Ah)

If it is feasible, it might address the most longed for pain areas of the community:
a) Want Keyboard ;)
b) Want insane Uptime ;)
c) Hate changing TOH covers :( but maybe OK with snap-ins :)

My apologies if it has been discussed already!

I want alumide+alumide+not sure, but when I saw some photo of it - took black+orange. Later, I see real photo of alumide in better quality and a bit regret, but no way to change color any more. I think, if we have realworld good quality photos of parts - color selections will be much differ from current. People just paly safe and choose black+black+black.
