No, it will probably be a low, mid end phone with a high end price tag

They've said they're not going for the very top-end price wise, they're aiming for slightly less than that...
What that means hw wise is anyone's guess but if I were to guess; it'll mean hw that's mid-end* compared to the best Android hw that's out.
And I mean mid-end overall, it may be top-end or (touch-wood) industry leading in 1 or 2 (or more) areas.

"mid-end HW" running with "high-end SW" sounds very good to me.
Using less-than-the-latest chipsets and cpu means lower power requirements, longer battery life, more robust build.
All characters I appreciate in a mobile device. :D

Not necessarily it's not always as simple as that, power draw/efficiency often improves with the latest silicon, not just performance.

Sure, if you have patience to use the newer silicon and better processes to produce a design that is comparable in processing power to the older generation chipset, in fact building a less-than-the-latest design with latest processes.

However, the latest silicon design & manufacturing processes ae often used to pack more power into the same-sized or smaller physical container, and newer and inefficient OS&SW design then eats up the increased HW power.

What I would like to see is device with as open HW/FW/SW as possible, plenty of RAM & disk, average but reliable GPU, average CPU, good wlan&3g performance and really really really low power consumption.

Yeah, sorta, I'd much rather see them leverage the best designs, which are much better performing & (usage being the same) draw no more power in RW terms.
But that (most likely) won't happen, so I'll be happy with something a few notches down, so long as they haven't been talking BS about the openness of the sw.

what if scandinavian design means exact same design as n9 and almost same cpu/gpu? One of the reasons is GPU drivers... Almost all todays new HW is Android GPU drivers only...
