I guess I don't get the point of arguing based purely on speculation, fair enough on known points.

It's called trolling.

I wish user profiles on TMO showed how many people were ignoring that user.

Instead of either participating or ignoring questions or criticism, just call it trolling. It's the passive-aggressive's more cowardly form of censorship. heh

The question remains, "Is this a smart move?" Does switching CEO's like this show that there's problems or weakness, or is it a strategic and intelligent move intended to cut off problems before they happen or get worse (for example, the way they did with Nokia). Asking the question and offering criticism and trying to fish for opinions and details here in the forum is hardly trolling.

If you are comparing changing a CEO when you're a world leader to changing a CEO when you're rising up from a garage company, you don't understand much about business leadership, plain an simple.

When you're in the garage league, you choose to put CEO next to the name of one person from your 2-5 available half-unemployed staff. Probably the one with most money. Then when you start to need a CEO you pick one of your staff members to fullfill the position. Then, if he does his job well, maybe you can afford one who knows how to be a CEO, and put your staff member back where he belongs. This is what Jolla do now. They put their experienced engineer back into product development, and a business runner to run the business.

NEXT, they pick a successful CEO with a name, that international money people know and respect. They can't even afford that now. They couldn't even if they tried now.

THEN they pick some Google bigshot, or the equal. That maximizes the media "mindshare". By then the business runs itself by having an experienced staff in each department and the CEO is half board pleaser, half PR person.

If they keep changing their CEO every year when they get up in divisions, it will only create noise. But as it is now, the speed of changing CEO only signifies how quickly they're reaching the next stage in ambitions.

If they try to get to into the market by letting a ENGINEER run around and try to make contracts with logistics, chains, carriers, he would very quickly realize he doesn't talk their language.

Up till now Jolla apparently could manage by with what they had, which was an engineer, experienced leader but as an engineer, not as a business network builder. But if they did not find a more expensive, more capable business network builder now, then they'd probably never succeed.

So stop talking about the world leading companies, because world leadning companies probably do not want to change division, and they probably shouldn't change CEO unless they want to change the major business direction. It seems really odd to compare big money to a start up company, and expecting that it should need the same kind of leadership.

They've explained the reasons behind the CEO changes, I personally think they have a very intelligent business model

Nobody goes into business to be last. Comparisons will invariably happen.

Business acumen and reasons were not brought up mainly because most were talking from either a personal (read: opinion) or media standpoint. The rest, that's your assumption.

I'm pretty certain I'm allowed to talk about "world leading companies," even in this context. I'm particularly sure you can't tell me not to. These "world leading companies" have history--not just recent. How many of these world-leading companies got to be "world-leading" by changing CEO's so often in their nascent stages?
